Really interesting "off the beaten path" tour. Evening Prohibition and Wine Cellar tour was excellent. Our guide was very well informed and clearly had a passion for history. We learned about the times, the home and the neighborhood.

A beautiful townhouse, carefully preserved. President Wilson's legacy is showcased here, as well as that of his widow. In the days when Presidents could keep the gifts given by overseas dignitaries, there are many beautiful examples of special items.

The rooms are carefully preserved, with period accurate games, film projectors (Wilson was a fan) and gorgeous blue willow styled china.

Various tours can be booked and visitors learn what it was like to live in a very different DC (no social media back then!).

The home also hosts vintage game events, as well as seasonal special happenings (a 1920's style seance, for example---wish I had been able to attend!)

Best of all, it's free! And it's near Embassy Row, if, like me, you're an architectural geek!

Entering my 2nd decade as a DC tour guide, I have visited the Woodrow Wilson House many times, but have been reticent to write a review for fear of revealing my Go To 'hidden gem'! Guests rarely know of its existence and always come away in amazement at the meticulous preservation of Wilson's last home and also leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the 28th President and (in my opinion) his grossly underrated 1st Lady, Edith! The house is an absolute treasure trove and time capsule of the 1st quarter of the 20th Century and has remained such because Mrs. Wilson lived there, changing very little, until her death in 1961, oddly enough on what would have been Wilson's 105th birthday.

My most recent visit to the Woodrow Wilson House was to attend a lecture, featuring the famed scholar of international relations, Dr. Mary Habeck. Dr. Habeck offered incredible insight into the current crisis between Ukraine and the soon-to-be re-Soviet Union. Listening to such a smart, concise explanation of the long history of this conflict (dating back almost 1000 years) was extraordinary enough, but to witness/ participate in this breakdown of such a momentous current event - in the drawing room of a Nobel Peace Prize winner - was borderline surreal!

The Woodrow Wilson House receives zero government money and is part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and does not shy away from Wilson's more controversial aspects. Other historic venues should take notes! Whether a history buff visiting Washington, DC or a local interested in current events through the prism of our past, put the Woodrow Wilson House on your list of things to do - I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind if you made a donation, either! There it is: the cat is officially out of the bag!

A great visit for anyone interested in history. John was an awesome tour guide and did a great job with explaining Wilson's bigger historical significance but also pointing out the smaller items of interest throughout the house. Most of the furniture is original. You do feel like you are stepping back in time!

There are several tours that a person can choose from during week. However, the general tour is only offered only a few times during the week. That is the biggest drawback of the facility.
With that said, the tour and building are very good. The tour gives a lot of good information and Woodrow's relationship with his second wife, Edith. There's good information that one does not come across while reading, especially about a painting that Woodrow has in his bedroom during the last few years of his life. There's also other good information about two employees that worked at the residence.
The building and its furnishings are beautiful.
It's a worthwhile visit!

Being interested in 19th crntury Smerican politics, this was a very good opportunity to visit the home of one of the most well-know ex- presidents.
After a brief introduction we were given a guided tour of all four floors of this impressive property.
Our guide was very knowledgeble and made the tour very worthwhile.

Fascinating as a tour of a wealthy urban home from the 1920s, with well informed tour guide about the Wilson lifestyle and family. Minimal coverage of Wilson's presidency and place in history. Heirloom gifts from World War I dignitaries interesting, especially the mosaic of St. Peter from Pope Benedict XV. Artwork by and about Wilson's first wife intriguing, suggesting much more could be told. His second wife was a descendant of Pocahontas, another surprise factoid. Vintage Otis elevator requires staff help to use, but makes all three floors accessible to the handicapped who cannot climb the mansions long staircases.

This is a chance to see the inside of an historic 1920s mansion. It is incredibly well preserved. Everyone who works there is very enthusiastic. Our tour was for 30 minutes. It lasted almost 90 minutes because our guide just kept talking. But make sure you understand the tour hours. Business hours listed on Google are NOT times for tours.

Woodrow Wilson is the only President of the United States who chose to remain in Washington DC after he left the presidency. So his home is of historic significance. Located at 2340 S Street Northwest, just off Embassy Row in Washington DC, the three-story, red brick Georgian Revival structure with large bay windows and a columned entrance way with an overhanging balcony was built in 1915. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. Wilson, the 28th President of the United States, bought the house in the last months of his second term as a gift to his wife, Edith Bolling Wilson. They moved in on Inauguration Day, March 4, 1921. Wilson, who had never seen the house until he moved in, made several modifications, including a billiard room, stacks for his library of over 8,000 books and a one-story brick garage. It was from the balcony that Wilson addressed a crowd on November 11, 1923, his last public appearance. He died in an upstairs bedroom on February 3, 1924. His widow lived in the house until her death on December 28, 1961. She hosted First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy for a brunch in the formal dining room.
