Growing up I'd often heard that Jews were pacifists or afraid to fight. When I was in DC on business and heard about this place from a friend who lives there, I decided to walk over at lunchtime one day and see it, since my friend said it was very easy to get to ad get through. My friend was right, but the big surprise was the wealth of information packed into this place.
In a time when anti-Semitism seems to be in the news, this is a place that sets the record straight on a bunch of stuff - and no fake news. Back to the Revolutionary War and right on through to today, I had no idea that Jews were as active as any group in fighting for and defending our Nation.
Like most museums, this one also has a gift shop and there are some interesting books (I bought 2) fairly priced for anyone who likes to get in-depth info on history.
I give this Museum an A+ and recommend it for anyone visiting DC who believes in truth. It doesn't take long to visit, it's easy to get to and it's free.

We were taking a walk when we came upon the museum and being interested in all things military, we went in. The displays centered on the Jewish contribution to WWII didn't surprise me much as I've studied that conflict, but a display depicting a mother's story, and her son's ultimate sacrifice was particularly moving. I just wish I had brought my glasses with me as I would have liked to spend more time really reading about the men in arms. I will be back.

This Museum has a very narrow focus - Jews who fought in American conflicts. It has a small, modern overview gallery on the first floor, but a much larger (and not clearly marked - I almost left before the receptionist pointed me to it) lower level gallery.

The lower level gallery consists primarily of military artifacts and memorabilia donated by servicemen. There are some interesting objects, but the descriptions of the objects on the wall are separate from the display cases, which made it hard to identify what each item was. There is also a gallery devoted to about a dozen Jews who have won the Medal of Honor, which includes some pretty amazing stories of gallantry.

This Museum is free and you can see everything in about an hour. I was the only person there when I visited.

Went to visit the museum with a friend visiting. Scored two Timed Entry tickets from the website which opens up daily at 6:30am. Went on a Sunday so found nearby parking at the US Customs Building for $15 flat fee. The exhibits were mind blowing and very informative as well as emotionally provoking. I’d recommend everyone visit and bring their kids especially those who are late elementary through high school.

This is a small museum, an hour is enough. But take your time, read and listen to the audio/visual displays and allot two hours if you can. This is not a museum about the wars the US has been involved in. It's focus is about Jewish soldiers and veterans from the establishment of the Colonies all the way through our more recent conflicts. The focus however is on WWI and WWII veterans and service honorees.

non solo isolato, ma anche molto specialistico (incredibile la memoria e la concezione della stessa da parte del popolo ebraico). molto bello e gratis

This museum is great for Jews and military history buffs. It details the contributions of Jews in most of America's battles. It was amazing to see that over 4% of our troops were Jewish during wars, while the American Jewish population is under 1/2%. Excellent displays and artifacts. Worth the effort to find.

I found this little museum when I saw signs for it while walking near Dupont Circle. While small, it is well-curated with interactive exhibits. You can view photos and see artifacts from a number of conflicts. Appropriate for families with older children.

I walked pass a sign from Connecticut Avenue and noticed the name of the museum. Follow the sign from Connecticut Avenue and I found museum is located at the corner of 18 and R street N.W., in the same building with Jewish War Veterans of U.S.A. The museum is not visibly obvious from the street because of the closed door, except for a bright sign at the door step. Once sign in, visitors can walk around, and take photos (no flash). A great place to learn about Jewish veterans has served the country along side with other groups of military.

A fascinating and well-curated collection of unique artifacts that bear witness to the role of Jews, whether they were drafted or volunteered, in numerous American military actions from the Revolutionary War to the present day. The wide-ranging exhibits here are designed to provoke thought and discussion rather than present facile conclusions, making this museum especially well-suited to visit with friends or family, and then talk about afterwards.

Especially moving is evidence of the special role some American Jewish soldiers played in the liberation of European Concentration Camps because they were uniquely able to communicate with the prisoners, many of whom spoke only Yiddish. Less well known may be the Holocaust survivors who went on to receive high honors after serving in the American military themselves.

Information accompanying exhibits does a nice job of handling both basic issues of religious identity (the museum's criterion of self-identification sets the bar higher than some sources that use last name and thereby include some people who did not actually consider themselves Jewish), and also antisemitism (presented in a very matter of fact way as a reflection of the larger American culture of the times rather than anything unique to or exacerbated by military culture). Where, for example, a soldier changed his name to "fit in" all aliases are given if known.

Don't miss the (elevator accessible) basement. I found the exhibits there to be even more intimate and more focused on individual experiences than those on the first floor.

There are a few interactive exhibits throughout the museum, but oriented towards adults, not children. I would guess, however, that a 12 or 13 year old with an interest in history would find plenty to look at and think about here.
