As a Georgetown residents, I have been wanting to tour Heurichhouse for a couple years now. My friend and I kept looking for tickets but they were at weird times and nobody picked up the phone when you called the number. On 3/18 we found one ticket at 2 PM and one ticket at 3 PM, we showed up at 2:30 hoping they would accommodate us to tour together. The tour guy who was a fellow told me he would lose his job if he allowed be to be part of the 3PM tour, which I thought was a bit ridiculous, since I had paid for a tour, just at 2PM and the tour at 2 had one less person. He first told me that I could look on the website and call a number under tours, the number did not exist. My friend went on the 3PM tour and I had to wait for an hour in the garden for the tour to finish. This inflexibility completely ruined my day. Allowing one more person in a 3 PM tour group should not have been a big deal. I didn’t want to fellow to lose his job but he also could not tell me or provide me a number of someone that I could speak with to ask for an exception to take part in the 3pm tour. He also was not able to reimburse me for the 2PM tour that I couldn’t go on. He said I’d have to wait till Monday to call and try to get my money back. I’d really not recommend this organization as they are completely inflexible. Honestly I’m not sure why I even wanted to tour some old rich person’s house just cause he owned a beer company. What a waste of time.

We were looking for unique tours while in DC last weekend and fortunately found this one. We got tickets ahead of time and one thing to note is the $10 suggested donation / person. Personally, seeing as it was "suggested", we didn't donate when we initially booked. Since it was suggested, I wanted to do the donation after the tour - based on the experience. You don't quite get that luxury b/c they call you out at the beginning of the tour and "encourage/urge" you to donate right away.

When you first get to the house - you wait outside for the next tour. There is no waiting inside. A foursome missed the 11:30 am tour by five minutes and could not join "late". There was only 1 tour guide and she starts the tour in the back of the house - so if you're waiting in the front, she'll never see you. So - be on time!

Even after all that - I really enjoyed the tour. It ended up being over an hour and you really got to see most of the house. Even though the furnishings are from that time, I thought it was preserved very well, and our guide was very thorough in her descriptions.

I would recommend the tour to others.

It was a very memorable tour. The guides were very knowledgeable, providing many interesting background stories and pleasant. There were many photo opportunities. It is a multi-level Victorian home but there is an elevator available, if needed.

We saw this on a you tube channel called DC trip hacks. The mansion was beautiful the tour was self guided. I just wish more of the house wasn't off limits. I did find the Christmas market a let down. I'm used to a true German Christmas markets ornaments, gingerbread hearts, wurst strudel etc. But it was more of a local artisan market, it was very small in my opinion. I understand support small businesses, but if you are going to advertise a German Christmas market, have some German related items to sell. But I enjoyed the history of the house more and I bought a Christmas ornament and some maple syrup. I would love to see it in the daylight next time. I visit DC .People complain about the entry fee but you have to realize the fee goes to the mansion preservation and upkeep. It's not free like a Smithsonian museum

December offers a self-guided tour of the house and a small-scale German market on the house grounds. There was a small selection of vendors, good holiday gifts, followed by a self-guided tour of the house. I would recommend touring this house with a guide. The woodworking is incredible and the life style guided tour would offer a better chance not appreciate this unique home. There did not seem to be a gift shop which I would have appreciated for a small moment.

The photos on this site do not do it justice! Beautiful mansion built in 1894 will all the latest technology at that time. This was an easy walk from the Dupont Circle Metro South exit. They do have an elevator if someone is in a wheel chair. It is only open for tours on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays for 3 one hour tours. It is worth the visit. One hour tour only costs $ 10. Go on a regular tour and you will get to see more of the house. The docent was very friendly and knowledgeable. Beautiful on the inside, nice garden in the back. One can pay to have a wedding or event there. It would be a beautiful place to do so.

First of all, this is the house of one of Washington DC's first millionaires...back in the late 1800s! It's now a Not-For-Profit Foundation/Museum carrying on the family's history...as well as our history as Americans.

Christian Heurich was an immigrant in 1866 (he waited to enter the US until after our Civil War was over...) from what is now Austria (back then, it was part of the Austrio-Hungarian Empire...)

I will let the wonderful docents tell you the details, but it's a fabulous visit to a place that could have been visited by the Rockefellers, the Fricks, the Carnegies, the Forbes...you get my drift.

Enjoy!

One of the best preserved Victorian mansions in the USA, definitely worth a visit if you want to see what state of the art living in 1894 looked like. Mansion of the DC brewing family, the Heurich's, it has been largely preserved just as it was in the late 1800's as the family didn't change much while they lived there. Sign up online for one of their tours that only take an hour or two. Out back in the carriage house is an exhibit on the Heurich Brewing Company that used to be where the Kennedy Center is now. Cool little site not too many folks know about and well worth the visit!

We discovered/ visited Heurich House a few weeks ago while walking in the DuPonr Circle area. It had line of 10-15 people because there was a Kristkindl (Christmas) Market going on. We bought the $15 tickets which gave us access to the market and the museum tour. It was nice, but didn’t think the price was justified. The Kristkindl market had 30-40 stalls. Only 3 or 4 of them had food with lines. Rest were just mostly selling locally made stuff but somehow they convinced somebody to let them open a stall in a German Christmas market?!. The museum tour was nice but limited to the 1st & 2nd levels - they didn’t allow us to go to the basement which had the brew house or the upper levels. Not worth $15/person.
