Let me tell you Arizona has some really nice state parks, my son & I went to Jerome & Fort Verde Historic State Park, along with both Tonto Natural Bridge & Kartchner Caverns State and none of them disappointed us. The Lost Dutchman State Park was really great, if it wasn’t for the Restroom building, we could’ve gotten lost. There is nothing but vast open space with ALOT Saguaros!!!!!

One of the best located campsites / staging areas ever. This review is long overdue as I have visited the park about a dozen times over the last year. It is conveniently located with a wide range of outdoor activities within a few miles.
The only negative, in my opinion, is with the way they present the park. There is very little to do in the park itself, great campsite and a few short trails but 95% of the activities are outside of the park in the surrounding area. Their main selling point, superstition mountains, are outside the park.
On the plus side, I have camped here a few times and plan to this year as well, and the campsites are clean, reasonably priced, and of course, in an excellent overall location. Within a few miles, you can go to a beautiful lake, Canyon lake, have fun on a very twisty road, Apache Trail, go off-roading on some challenging OHV trails, visit a tourist site, Goldfield, or even do a wide range of hikes, from simple ones around Superstition Mountains, to the challenging Flatiron climb. Of course, can't forget that despite all these outdoor options, civilization is just a few miles away in Apache Junction.
Overall, a nice park in a perfect location.

The trails were well marked and easy to follow. The natural beauty was amazing and worth the trip. We can’t wait to go back and do more hiking at this State Park. High recommend taking the time to do this.

The most beautiful and well managed/maintained State park ever!! Just stayed 4 nights and it was heaven. Abundance of Staff that were always busy cleaning, clearing brush from trails, checking camping sites, etc.. The Office at entrance was well stocked and staffed. Bathrooms clean, showers not as much but acceptable. Many planned activities to participate in. Loved this place!
FYI…if you have a choice, reserve one of the older sections of sites. The newer one, closest to Entrance, are side-by-side with no privacy at all. This is a huge campground and all of the other loops sites are separated and private.
Will definatly return when in town!!

I'm fairly new to campgrounds, never liked the idea of camping much, but this state park has changed my opinion completely.
I have now stayed at this park 3 times this year and plan to stay a few more times. The park itself is clean, quiet, and the staff is extremely friendly. If you camp here, I do recommend verifying which spot you'll be in first because some spots have a lot of privacy and space, while others are close together.
The biggest plus to this camping location is that it is close to so many other things. Within 30 minutes, you have civilization, but also, Canyon Lake, Apache Trail, multiple old west tourist sites, great hiking choices in the superstition mountains, and a decent OHV area. Plenty to do.

Our family took a hike in the Lost Dutchmen State Park on the Jacob's Crosscut trail. We saw a jack rabbit on our way back. The cactus plants were neat to look at and some were so big the base looked like the wood on the base of a regular tree.

We hike the Treasure Loop trail in April. Great views, cacti in bloom. We got off the loop at the top - no trail markings that we could see - so we had to backtrack about 1/4 mile. From the parking lot, this trail was about 3 miles. Recommend for pretty much everyone with reasonable strength and endurance. We're 70 and had no trouble.

What a beautiful state park. We stayed in the campground for 3 nights. Easy access from Route 88 and it is well sign-posted from the road. Checkin was efficient. Peaceful, quiet setting at the base of Superstition Mountain surrounded by Saguaros and other native desert plants, yet within 5 miles of stores and restaurants. The scenery is stunning. Roads are paved and easy to navigate in any size rig. Sites are large and well spaced with a paved parking spot and crushed stone picnic area with table and grille/fire pit. Everything is very well maintained. Our site had water and electric. Not all sites do, so check the on-line reservation site for amenities. There is a dump station easily accessible on the entry/exit road. Lots of trails available. Nice fenced dog park at the end of our loop, a first for us in state parks. We had good T-mobile signal. We will return here for sure. The park is very popular so book early.

Can I take pictures of landscape in the park ?

Yes, but not much landscape IN the park, it's next door in the Superstition Mountain's section of Tonto forest. Lost Dutchman is basically a campsite and staging area for exploring the Superstition Mountains.

I'm not sure what photos you are looking at, but I went to a web site called campsite photos...and, well ...they are photos...and are pretty accurate. If you are tent camping be sure to bring a rake or some way to clear the pebbles...or better yet, bring a camping cot/sleeping pad. It is a very clean park and the RV sites are quite nice. I went with the family camping group last December and it was toasty in the day and chilly at night. Have FUN ;-)

Is this park safe for a solo female traveler to hike? Are the trails usually pretty busy?

It is safe for solo female hikers. There is always an outlet and I did not see any unwanted people there.
What is the camping cost ? Do the camp sites have Full hook-ups?

I see on the AZ State Parks website that the camping sites have electricity...do they also have water? Also, are reservations needed in January or February?
