We were staying in Arcata for a few days and decided to attend the $5 Monday night movie. The Monday night movies seemed to center on off-beat topics, this time it was old horror movies. We saw "Freaks", which was a black and white movie from the 1930s about a circus troop. The theatre is old and charming and there was a lot of room. We were able to purchase a beer to enjoy with our movie. And popcorn was only 50 cents! A great night out.

Overall we had a nice time. The food was okay, but it took a long time for it to arrive. (The chicken salad was very good)
The sound quality is very good and the picture quality is okay. The only downside is the comfort-or lack there of. My seat, witch was a tallish barstool was okay at fit, but as the movie went on my hind side was sore. I had a difficult time finding a comfortable position. I found myself wishing the movie would end so I could get out of the miserable chair.... we were a family of 10. Excluding the kids, we all had the same experience.
This dinner theatre is a great idea. Love the history of the venue. More kitchen help and more comfortable seating is needed.

little too dark inside, needs a new decoration, has decent service, but food waiting little longer than I expected especially when more people inside, maybe they need a bigger kitchen

I had huge hopes for this place when it was remodeled from the old Arcata Theatre into it's current night club/movie venue. I tried to become a regular on Sundays when they typically show a kids movie, thinking this would be a fun alternative for the kids over the lame corporate movie theatre experience available at the nearby "first run" movie theatres.
I find the place fairly awkward and uncomfortable, especially as a venue to watch movies with kids. For starters, they are a cash only business, which is 2016 is a really lame policy and a hassle for a parent trying to take their kids to the movies...I rarely carry cash and end up having to use some"foreign" ATM to get cash and get hit with multiple ATM tranaction fees. I noted to the proprietor that this policy was inconvenient and likely costing them business but they said they had no plans to change it.
I also find the food selection and quality leaves something to be desired...not a big deal if I'm bringing the kids to the movies as it's a novelty for them to get to eat while they watch a movie, but again, cash only so you better remember to stock up at the ATM if you want o patronize this place. Also, they serve the food at your table but they won't take orders at the table - you have to wait in line up front to order food and then be given a table number. Not a big deal for a lot of situations but when you bring small kids to a theatre, this becomes a hassle and would be much more convenient to just take table orders.
Ultimately what should be a fun experience is really kind of lame and we never go there anymore, which is a shame. I also found that even though it shows kid movies, the place is really set up for alcohol consumption type events and is not necessarily a family friendly establishment even during kid events.

This theater is a great experience for couples, friends and some nights are for the whole family. They put on great concerts throughout the year while most of the time they show old classics or fun cult classic sci fi. While your there sitting around a table with friends they offer delicious burgers with gluten free bun options and amazing specially seasoned sweet potato fries made in house. They make most their food there and carry plenty of gluten free items while also carrying kombucha on tap, a full bar and fresh baked cookies they also have your classic popcorn and candy of course. I can't rave about them enough. Just go for a night of fun and enjoy food!

that besides really awesome artists who appear there from time to time is just huge wooden box which for sure could not not affect quality of sound. So if there enough of people to damp low frequent sound waves and sound engineers that are not lazy enough to correct sound on the way, the sound is ok and might be enjoyable. Unless it somewhere in between terrible and unlistneable.

I actually went in 2013 for Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and had a great time! It's an interesting atmosphere with spots to sit but also tons of room to dance!

They have a lot of out-of-the ordinary/eclectic acts/bands here, but most of it attracts the younger late late crowd. There are other Events that are better, but Packed! Zepperella (all girl Led Zep tribute band), for ex. Most likely it's some unbelievably loud electronica or rap band/DJ. The fundraisers are fun, like The Mr. Humboldt Contest. They show older movies on a few nights a week for $5 with table seating, a lot of them for younger kids, and for many of the events, you get free entry if you buy at least $5 in food. So, it's like a "Food Cover". There is a Bar and most events serve alcohol. So 21+ for those. The Asian Salad with crunchy chow mein noodles is my favorite (good dressing, too). There are tables for seating, but you want to be at the head of the line and get there early if you have a favorite spot or you're short and actually want to sit at one in front. and then bring a jacket for a seat saver. It's hard to see for many of the shows, the live bands, although for documentaries/movies the screen is quite big and if other people sit down and don't just stand around in the way, it's OK. I won't go with the thought of Dancing much, not with a partner anyway, because people just stand all over the sunken "dance floor" in a huge crowd with their drinks. Thank goodness they can't smoke! (California only allows smoking in Casino Lounges)

Food is not fancy - beer, fries, samosas, burgers, cookies, salad, finger foods, and others. But the ambiance is always fun, full of students, and great entertainment to go along. Free movie if you buy $5 of food, or credit toward your $5 theater ticket if less food.
Sci fi movie night is great; old cult films that in spite of the serious tone of the day, are now comedic to watch. Highly recommend for a taste of local color and easy date night.
