This was about a 15 minute walk from where our ship tendered. We pre-reserved lounge chairs on the water's edge. The "beach" was actually a cliff of rocks. We enjoyed just sitting on the beach, but it probably wouldn't be great for those who expect lots of sandy area. Food, drink and service was good. The restroom was a long walk, up the hill. The restaurant/bar is open to the public, so if you don't want to pay for the loungers, you can sit on the deck of the restaurant and enjoy the view.

My wife and I were at Catalina Island in September 2023. While there, we rented 2 chairs and an umbrella at the Descanso Beach Club. Table service is provided along with the chairs. The server brought my wife Buffalo Milk, a creamy liquor drink that was delicious. For food, we had a seafood burger and a DBC burger (hamburger) which were both also delicious. We spent practically the whole day here and would do it again in a heartbeat.
We rented kayaks the next day and had their surf and turf nachos afterward. These were the best nachos I have ever had! The nachos appeared to be freshly cooked, not simply grabbed from a bag.
If you are planning a trip to Catalina Island, you absolutely must try this place!

Beautiful beach and lovely grounds. We rented a cabana and loved having our own personal waitstaff person to get us drinks and lunch. I’m not sure if the beach is always rocky but we didn’t have swim shoes so getting in the water was too hard. But it wasn’t too hot so we didn’t mind. Beautiful views and worth the expense for an unforgettable experience

A Little Slice of Heaven
Review of Descanso Beach Club
I have never really understood why people loved Catalina so much so I decided to give it a try with a family weekend on the island. There were fur adults & our two year old grand daughter. That being said, if we wanted to hang out on the beach we needed some shade and comfort, Descanso Beach Club provided just that.
The Beach Club has an open beach area where anyone can sit and there are private cabanas and lounge chairs with umbrellas you can rent for a fee.
The cabanas which we rented had a love seat, two comfortable chairs with ottomans and a large coffee table. In front were two very comfortable lounge chairs that allow you sun time (no umbrellas) and a stellar view.
From the time you arrive you are offered a complimentary bucket of chilled waters, smoothies, towels and an offering off cocktails and food (for a fee). The service is spot on and the staff very attentive. This all comes for an elevated fee of ($500+). If you can swing it, it's a very nice treat and it feels a little like the French Riviera. The only thing I would change is the size of the sofa in the cabanas- It would be nice to have a larger sofa that would allow you to stretch out ( like at Two Harbors) and if entertaining much better for seating.

Top notch food and cocktails! Wonderful beach setting with superb service! A slice of beach paradise on Catalina. It’s perfect to hit Descanso after zip lining and aerial adventure course! There’s soft sand to complete the beach feel although it is rocky as you get close to the water.
Swim, kayak, eat and lounge! We come here every Catalina visit.

Around the other side of the Casino is a little beach with a bar and some beach tents, grassy field, etc. The setting is fantastic and although it's on the pricey side, it's very good. The bar staff are very professional and the setting is sublime. we had a very pleasant afternoon doing absolutely nothing.

You walk along Casino Way marveling at how much Avalon looks like the French Riviera. You turn at the Casino and gawk at the clear emerald green waters of Descanso Bay. You get to the Beach Club. It is pleasantly warm and breezy, and you choose as a cocktail the famous Buffalo Milk, a mix of vodka, coffee liqueur, banana liqueur, crème de cacao, whipped cream, and nutmeg. The bartender is tanned, cheerful, and swift. The drink is fresh and bright and makes time stand still. Your companions sing the praises of their Catalina Rum Punch and Mt. Orizaba Margarita, but their voices seem far off. You are sipping the nectar of a piece of heaven, and all else seems temporarily superfluous.

Food was horrible. Premade frozen cheese burgers that took half an hour. Forgot the cheese on one. Area was infested by bees. Save your money and the long walk. Much better options elsewhere.

Descanso Beach Club is a great way to spend a day. From zip lining to enjoying an adult libation what's not to love.

We had a great visit to Descanso Beach Club. We bought inflatables ($12 each), lunch, and played in the water and sand.
You can rent chairs or cabanas, or just hang out for free.
There are kayaks and paddle boards for rent, multiple options for food and drinks, and a fun atmosphere.
Watch out for the rocks! The tide can be strong and the rocks are sharp. We saw a child who had been banged up and I sliced my toe. Water shoes HIGHLY recommended.
For inflatables - a tube with hole in the middle is much easier to navigate through the waves.
You can rent chairs or cabanas, or just hang out for free.

Not 100% but I don't think so. Didn't see any. They might be able to look after something for you however.
I am a party of 7, If I get loungers for the 4 adults can the 3 teens hang out in the water or do they have to have a lounger as well?

Yes, it's an open beach - we were at the bar and there were lots of people at the beach who just came without a lounger

Hello! So sorry for the late response! Descanso Beach Club is closed for the winter and we anticipate reopening February 4, 2022.
Couldn't get a chaise or cabana - sold out. Can I bring my own beach chairs and umbrella to sit outside the chaise/cabana area?

I believe so because they have a section that is next to the 'reserved' chairs/lounges that is first come first served seating. I'd call ahead and double check just to be sure, but you should be ok!

Hi I have a GA ticket for the Catalina wine mixer this Saturday but wasn’t able to reserve a chair or cabana because they sold out-are there towels and lockers available there or do I have to bring my own towel? Thanks!
