Too bad you can not visit any part of the interior of the Palace. The doors are very nice and, certainly, you have to see them. They are also right next to the Jewish quarter which is also worth visiting. Before going to Fez I read several reviews that advised to go first thing in the morning so you don't find them full of tourists. However we stayed in the morning and there were quite a lot of people, as all the tour groups stop there. We came back a second time in the late afternoon and... we were totally alone, with no one, and we were able to photograph the doors in total comfort and in much softer light to better appreciate the colors and details. That’s the best advice: visit them in the late afternoon, before nightfall begins.

It's okay that I was next door and I didn't come here on purpose because we can just look at the front door, not even go to the square in front of the door which was closed by barriers and forbidden to the public.

The Royal Palace of Fez, is an impressive and historically significant site in the city. Its grand golden gates and intricate mosaic work are truly a sight to behold. The palace holds a special place in Moroccan history and culture as a residence for the king when he visits Fez. Our guide mentioned the king does not spend very much time here. Last time he was here it was during covid.
That being said, while it's definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way just to see it. You can only admire the gates, as the palace is not open to the public. This limits the overall experience, making it more of a quick photo opportunity rather than a place to explore in depth.

One can imagine the magnificence of the Royal Palace from the outside, as visits are not planned.
The seven golden doors, made in the late sixties and early seventies, are beautiful!

To begin with, realize that you aren't really going to see the palace (which is not open to visitors). What you will see is the outer gate only. It's an impressive gate, but don't kid yourself; it's no more impressive than scores of other gates around Morocco. Snap a photo, if you want, and move on!

The Royal Palace is certainly part of Fez - but there is nothing to see here. We chose the palace as the starting point for a small city tour. We stood around in front of the large gates of the palace, took photos "as required" and walked a few steps around the large forecourt. But unfortunately there was nothing more to see. You can't go inside or into the gardens.
There is nothing to see here except the large gold-blue entrance gates. And to be honest, you can see that from the street even when you take a taxi.
What a pity.

The facade is quite nice. It is difficult to say whether the interior is interesting, as the palace cannot be visited.

Nice palace, surrounded by a huge garden. Visited it only the main entrance. The palace was first built in the 13th century, later on additions were made from 17th to 20th century. The main entrance visible from outside is very colorful with beautiful designs.
From the palace one can walk upto Jewish quarters, which dates back to the 15th century and an interesting place to visit

The Royal Palace of Fes is a wonderful photo opportunity. Detailed stucco and metal art/mosaic work can be admired here. Absolutely worth seeing!

It is not possible to enter this royal palace, the only one in Morocco directly linked to the Medina, but it is possible to photograph the main entrance, which is beautiful, by the way.

Hello, just a quick question as everywhere I’ve read to “arrive early” for photo opportunities as it can get very busy. Nowhere states how early. I was wondering what sort of time people have visited the gates, and how busy it is at these times?
Thank you

We were at the Royal Palace in Fez at about 9 am in October. There were no crowds and we were able to take a few excellent pictures. Understand that there is no public access to the Royal Palace and you are limited to pictures of the main gate. There is a smaller gate to the left of the plaza where there are guards. In Morocco, taking pictures of anyone in uniform is strongly discouraged. The two exceptions are at the Royal Palace in Rabat and at the Mausoleum of Hassan II in Rabat.
