big and safe garden with ample opportunity to do altitude and distance training; there’s a secure parking after you pass the South gate, but even the outside parking is ok; if you’re looking for a botanical garden with loads of instructive signs etc., you’ll be disappointed though

Gullele Botanical Garden is one of the very few parks and green spaces in Addis. The size offers the opportunity to properly hike and enjoy nature and a good view over Addis. The part that is supposed to become a botanical garden is still to be arranged. Some spots show care and dedication, some other parts show lack of care and lack of a clear coherent concept.

天気のいい日に友人に連れられてきました。植物園というより公園で、温室などは未完成ですが、ハイキングにちょうどいい丘があります。頂上までは１時間くらい。あがると動物がはなされていて、アジスアベバを見渡せます。サンドイッチを持っていって朝食を食べるのがよかったです。

What an amazing experience!! We started around 8:30 am and choosed more difficult way to get on the top of Gulllele. The weather was good, but really recommend warm clothes like long trousers, sport shoes, jumper and some light jacket, as well when you will climb on the top there is a little bit colder. We had an amazing guide Yonas , he was very nice, very helpful to make good safe steps on the way up, or in the case path was little bit challenging. He was funny and took care about our breakfast on the top too, showed us interesting things on the top and helped us to make some really cool photos. I really recommend this trekking. The views of addis ababa is real on this hills from the top are breathtaking, you will have a fun and will be safe with this great and experienced guide Yonas. If you like an adventure, beautiful nature and fun, this trakking is a must for you
Gullele Park is a kind of a forest reserve at the outskirts of Addis Ababa. we used the entrance at the Ring Road close to the roundabout Tunisia Street and Ring Road. There is a nice road leading to a small restaurant where you can park the car and use this as a starting point. When you turn left on the nice paved road you will finally end up on the highest point of the road leading over Entoto (Addis - Suluta).
The few on Addis is spectacular, especially on clear days (early morning).
At the restaurant you can order food and drink.

It might also be the only real park in the city. You get great views of Addis, clean air, and the chance to see some indigenous animals (boar, mountain nyala, etc). The real pro move is to walk all the way up the mountain to the Federal Police checkpoint. From there, go the north corner of the roundabout and into the mud-and-aluminum restaurant inside. Order tagabino, dulet, and tibs. They won't let you down. This is actually the best restaurant in Addis.

This large piece of land is under development as a garden. The removal of the alien invasive plant species has allowed for the re-establishment of indigenous flora. It is ambitious in scope. Quiet and peaceful with great views.

The large area up on a hill occupied by the botanical garden is stunning and there are just a few types of flowers planted randomly on the site. If you are expecting to see a big variety of trees and plants with tags indicating the species, you will be hugely disappointed. It is a nice place to have a picnic and there is a restaurant at the very end of the road high up on the hilll. It's lush and green but there are no greenhouses or any information about the plants native to Ethiopia. I was somewhat disappointed.

Highly recommended for walks/hikes/picnics. On the edge of the city but the quality of air here is so much nicer with just a few meters of extra elevation. It's not a botanical garden in the typical organized European/American sense - i'm really not sure if it will ever be finished!?!?! or what the purpose of the very interesting building is. (such potential with magnificent views) For now you simply drive in and park and explore.

Really the perfect spot to getaway while still "in the city". Tourist or local...adventure...hiking...picnic...or all of the above and best yet it's free. Not many people know of the Garden's existence...best to drive up Simenen Hotel Road as if driving to Chancho but just as you start up the mountain the final big roundabout... turn left on the ring road to Asko...less than 2km in is the main park gate in the right. Drive in to the right 10 mins up you'll come to a low lying park sign and the plateau where the "cafe" is. Good place to park & explore from here. Cafe is only good for water and soft drinks for now. Trails aren't labeled. Best to have 2-3 hrs to explore and take your time. It's about 3km from the cafe to the top. Great workout for the lungs...just remember you'll be hiking at 2000+ meters above sea level. Park opens at 7:30am...best to start hiking early to avoid the burn of the mid day Addis sun.

Hi. I'm searching for somewhere where I can buy some plants (mainly indoor) and wondered if the botanical garden might sell some.
Would anyone be able to tell me? Or even advise where I could buy some - either in Addis itself or within striking distance?

As far as I know, it is open everyday. It opens early in the morning, and I think the guards close the gate at 7 or 8pm.
