Adadi Mariam Rock Church is an place to take a day trip on Sundays from Addis Ababa to. Sundays and Thursdays are the best days for this excursion because there is an interesting local market on these days held only twice a week. The market is very authentic and helpful to understand the local Ethiopian culture

Such a surreal experience , walking into a functional rock hewn church and meeting the priest who prayed with us and took us around . It wasn’t like visiting a tourist destination but rather it was a pilgrimage . Thoroughly enjoyed it !

Hands down one of the best experiences I've ever had. I'm a female solo traveler in Addis Ababa, at first I was a bit hesitant coming here on my own especially with everything mentioned on the news about this place; this all changed once I landed here.
I have limited time here so I've decided to look for some help to cover larger grounds so I wouldn't miss out on anything, this here is where I found Yonas thanks to trip advisor & So far I've taken two trips with Him and it has been fascinating.
First of all, he is well organized he provide you exactly what he said he will, he know his way around the area, and he pick you up and drop you off on time exactly where he get you from.
I would also like to thank him for his best driving experience he is very careful I couldn't have chosen better guides. It was my first time in the country so I had tons of questions to ask and he answered every single one of them. Yonas who was alps my driver guide knowledge and had an answer for almost everything he explained the country's geography, culture, politics, history, food and every other question I could come up with. He made the experience tailored exactly to what I want to see. It took me a minute to observe all the beauty of the places I visited but I never once felt rushed or like he didn't want to be there.
And the most important aspect is that I felt safe, they were two trips I took were outside of Addis Ababa I was never uncomfortable nor scared people were unbelievably warm and welcoming.
I'm writing this as I book another trip with him.
Be sure to keep this tour on your list as he offer you the best experience you could get

whats-app Number +251913384298 Yonas gave us one of the most unique and exciting tours we’ve ever been on. It started with them picking us up at our hotel in Addis Ababa on time. We were driven in an authentic Addis Ababa taxi style van, which was really cool, and we were given bottles of water to have during the 2 hour drive to Adadi Maryam. We got to see so much of the countryside, the green fields, trees, and people living along the road to the church. When we arrived at the church, we were enchanted by how beautiful it was. After seeing the church, Yonas took us to an authentic coffee shop in one of the small villages on the way to Tiya Stone site. The coffee was wonderful, and we got to meet some of the locals. The Tiya Stone site was fascinating. We learned how people used to be buried, and what the symbols on their tombstones meant. We were also able to buy a clay coffee jug on the way out! After that, they took us to lunch at a local outdoor restaurant, where we had more coffee and authentic Ethiopian lunch. Yonas, instead of just driving us straight home, then asked us what we wanted to do next! We decided to drive by the African Union, which was really cool! It was a great tour! Amazingly designed rock hewn church if you have no time to visit Lalibela. Combine it with omo tribes or have a day trip from Addis Ababa.

I had not known about this place before I came to Addis Ababa. I visited this place during a day trip from the capital and it was nice. There is a dedicated tour guide to show you the church in stone and other items from their history. Seperate entrances for men and women.

We had a fabulous interesting tour
In particular Driver guide Yonas was terrific. He was enthusiastic and went out of his way to show us a good time . He was knowledgeable / worked hard / caring punctual . 10 out of 10. his drive was safe/ smooth and again 10 out of 10

This church is carved into the stone. Not as big as others, it´s simplicity brings you to an spiritual level. Deserves to be visited (be prepare for a bumpy and dusty road!!!)

It was a nice weekend day trip to take from Addis Ababa. We visited a local cultural market of the Oromo people at the small town of Adadi (65 km south of Addis Ababa).
This small market is held twice a week - on Sundays and Thursdays. It is interesting to know locals gather at this market not only to buy and sell things. It has a social importance as well - friends meet each other, unmarried young people find their future life partner, and they share information on what is new around.
With this excursion, visitors can stop at a couple of outlooks to see the Rift Valley. Melka Kunture Prehistorical Site and Adadi Mariam Rock Church (13th Century AD) can be visited in a day from Addis Ababa.

岩窟教会です。ラリベラに行かないなら行ってもいいかな、というところです。私はラリベラに入った後こちらに行ったんで、時間とお金の無駄だったかなと思いました。ただ、メンテナンスや掃除は行き届いていて、900年の歴史のある岩窟教会は、時を感じさせないほどでした。
