Leuk om een keer te zien, het is geen standaard bezienswaardigheid, maar echt lokaal. Het heeft een ruwe uitstraling en je moet je daar wel prettig bij voelen. Wij vonden het fantastisch

The tram is very reliable- fast, on time, very clean and cost effective. Rose Hill to Port Louis cost Rs40 per trip. Took us 20 mins for the trip. The same thing by bus would be slightly cheaper but would take 30 mins without traffic.
Stopped at Place D'armes which is on the Caudan Waterfront and the last stop.
Caudan- gorgeous view of the Port, plenty of restaurants to eat, shops are lovely. We bought some souvenirs at the craft shop. Gorgeous bridge at the back of the craft shop- love the view of the ocean.
Stamp museum 5 mins walk away.
National Museum 15 mins walk from Caudan. My kids love the top floor with stamps and Mauritians who served in the WW2. Gorgeous history. Unfortunately, the security guy by the door was not welcoming. Likewise the lady who sat on her phone in the stamp museum knew nothing about stamps. She told us the guy who is in the know is not around! My kids wanted to know about the football stamps and my wife asked about local addresses on the letters- should not be that technical!
Odysseum- Easy access from Caudan. Nice, very clean and well maintained and entertaining for kids.
If you have kids on a stroller- navigating through P. Louis is fine if you have robust wheels. Otherwise, it can be a bit of a struggle because some places have the authentice volcanic rocks on the floor. Place to place are not on the same level so a bit of maneuvering needed- be patient.
On the whole, people are very helpful, nice. I have a seen a lot of Indians, Bangladeshi work and other expats work in various positions so they will mostly speak only English and won't know much about the country- so do not confuse them with Mauritians who tends to be very bubbly and helpful.

First of all we visited racetracks all over the world. This one was something else. The people ,the atmosphere everything was something we never experienced before. We've enjoyed every moment there.

De eerste race start op zaterdag iets na de middag. We waren er voordien, heel leuk om al het gebeuren bij de aanloop naar de races gade te slaan. Koop zeker het ticket van 50 MUR (enkel mannen moeten betalen) , dit geeft je 50 MUR reductie op een drankje

Grew up there. Our flat overlooking the racecourse. Most wonderful time. Get up every morning and went to 'Le Dauget'. Police mountain. Only twenty minutes walk from the house. Walk for 7kms and always brought some bananas for the wild monkeys. All sort of fruits up the mountain from Mangoes to Spanish tamarind. I have a beautiful two bedrooms flat on the second floor of an old building built by my uncle. I have completely refurbished the entire property to a very high standard. Lots of visitors during racing days. I have entertained over 68 friends and families on a racing day. The best views in the city of Port Louis. Mountains on three sides and the sea on one side. 5 minutes Walt to city centre. Never had to use Aircon even during peak summer time. It's heaven.

The day of the races it is crowded like hell in the city. need to make several detours. Interesting stories about the race track. excelent views can bw had from Fort adelaide.

Hlavnà mÄ›sto Mauricia. ZajÃmavé je muzeum Blue Penny, kde se vždy 20 minut po každé celé hodinÄ› na chvÃli odhalà a nasvÃtà originály obou vzácných známek. SkvÄ›lé jsou ovÅ¡em i staré námoÅ™nà mapy, které jsou možná vÄ›tÅ¡Ã atrakcà než známky samotné. Centrum mÄ›sta je velmi ruÅ¡né, mÃsto na parkovánà se nehledá snadno. MÃstnà tržnice je kromÄ› zeleniny a ovoce obsazená spÃÅ¡e levným brakovým zbožÃm a hadry.

Il faut visiter PORT LOUIS et le CAUDAN qui est bien attirant ....
Voir les rues et les marchés très colorés. La vente de poissons........de fruits...
et les Mauriciens très attachants et sympathiques..

Hi went there last week whilst on holiday stayed In hotel in belle mare other side of island from port Louise we used hotels taxi services to take us there cost 3000 rupees about £65 and then 200 rupees for men about a fiver to get in women free Which gave us access to main stand upgrades were available but we not need them tour operators will charge you about £330 for the trip which includes a lounge to watch racing from in the same stand we were in we invited taxi driver to join us which he did as they only find some where to park up & wait for you we paid the car parking at course 100 rupees £2.50
With the lounge you get food & drink

Hello,
Does anyone know how I can independently buy a ticket for the races in Mauritius, can only seem to find a full tour ticket as oppose to actually attending the races.

You don't need a ticket to go to the races. If you are prepared to remain in the infield where they have food, drink and toilet facilities and betting facilities, it is free.
If you prefer to go on the other side of the track you buy a ticket from a little shed near the crossing for approx R200 for men and ladies are free. On this side is the grandstand, horse parade ring, food, beverage and toilet facilities.
I prefer the grandstand side as from the top level you see all the track plus get some home knowledge of horses from the locals. It also allows you to watch the locals when they get very excited.
If you have a car you can park in the middle of the race track for a minimal amount. Otherwise it's about a 30 minute walk from the main bus station. Everybody knows the direction, just ask them.

I've just been on the Mauritius Turf Club's website and it looks like the final race for the year is early December? Can anyone confirm this? We will be in Mauritius over Xmas / NY and would like an afternoon at the races! Thanks.

As far as I am aware race days are every Saturday.If the weather is hot make sure you go in the VIP as there is virtually no shade in the middle of the course(plus you are really well looked after by Jacques and the team).
