My husband and I just spent 8 days birding in Kigali, Bugesera, Akagera NP, Nyungwe NP and Lake Kivu while also taking in the Kigali Genocide Memorial and Makuza Peace Plaza. Claudien took care of all the details from start to finish and was extremely communicative and supportive in all respects making us feel safe, secure, and free to enjoy our trip. I really appreciated their timeliness and attention to making us comfortable. I can not say enough about our expert driver and spotter extraordinaire Alex as well as our knowledgeable guides Peninna (Akagera), Jean Pierre (Nyungwe), and Claudien (Bugesera/Kigali) that showed us many new birds as well as wildlife. The scenery was stupendous, the boat rides fun and informative, the accommodations excellent, and the birding better than I had hoped for. A very positive experience with memories that will last a lifetime.

Claudien is both an amazing person and an amazing guide. I would give him 10 stars if I could. I’m so grateful for the trip that he planned for my brother, mom, and me. We weren’t the easiest clients because 1. The pandemic delayed our trip — he had to replan a lot for us, 2. My brother and my mom and me all have different levels of interest in birding and he planned a really strong itinerary that kept us all happy. Our chats with Claudien were delightful. We asked him LOTS of questions about culture, history, birds, wildlife and he provided so much insight into Rwanda and other countries in East Africa. He is very good at his job! He also hires some really great drivers and guides that helped make our experience amazing too. Claudien is open to feedback and flexible with plans, which we loved because we were able to pivot on a few of our plans during the trip as we were there, like renting a boat last minute on Lake Kivu where Claudien identified lots of new bird species for my brother and mom. My camera lens broke a couple of days before we were going to see the gorillas and Claudien reached out to his connections and was able to help me rent a lens and have it delivered to where we were staying. This blew me away! And because of him, I took some of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken as a professional photographer. I recommend that anyone headed to Rwanda hires Claudien and his team for a trip of a lifetime!!!

Great trip. Lots of birds. Logistics well organised. Good vehicle. Basic but well run and functionally comfortable accommodation is a picturesque location. Reasonable price. Would recommend.

The trip was very well organized. The guides were absolutely professional and very competent. They could spot birds very efficiently.

We did a five day birding safari with Claudien and his team. He came highly recommended and his company has competitive pricing. The trips are completely customizable: I was able to tell him on whatsapp how many days I had and what my priorities were. We had a place to stay in Kigali and we were able to get dropped off and picked up at that location on day 3. Otherwise, he arranges all accommodations and meals. Its an incredible learning experience and his mastery of birds really shines through. Our itinerary was as follows:
Day 1: Bugesera Wetlands and travel to Nyungwe NP
We had a guest added to our wetland excursion (one person in addition to my husband and I) that I wasn't aware of. We stayed at the Ken Barham Guest House at Nyungwe. It was clean, but a little dingy. The shower head also broke off immediately which was inconvenient. We definitely wished there was a mosquito net. Otherwise, the property is beautiful and the staff is kind and welcoming.
Day 2: Birding in Nyungwe NP. If you have the option, opt for Clavier. In this NP, Claudien cannot be your guide, you will be assigned a local guide. Unfortunately, the first day we had a newer guide who was good and informative, but didn't have the wealth of experience that Clavier has. We still saw many endemic birds (16 over 1.5 days). We stayed at Ken Barham Guest House again.
Day 3: Morning birding at Nyungwe NP with Clavier. We had a guest added to this am. We had Clavier and he really is an impressive bird guide with an incredible ear for bird calls. I wished I had had him the day before as well! He might be a bird god. We stayed the night in Kigali.
Day 4: We went to Akagera NP. We stayed at the Akagera Game Lounge and it was a beautiful property. Extremely clean and ACs in each room. The food was good as well. The only downside was that there was a set menu for dinner and when you're traveling and adjusting to a new country, sometimes you need simpler options (rice, fries, etc.) Honestly, we wished we had gotten another night here. Just gorgeous. Claudien took us on the game drive and we saw 4/5 big five and many birds. Its an excellent birding location because the visibility is awesome. In the evening, we did a boat ride which was just so pleasant and enjoyable with great bird viewings.
Day 5: We headed back to Kigali.
One disappointing thing was that we heard all the Turacos but were unable to get a view of them in the rainforest. We will definitely be back to catch a better glimpse of them.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this birding safari. It was our first multi-day birding trip and it was incredible. We saw 168 new species or birds and 16 endemic species. It was epic.

Claudien is an amazing bird guide, I can’t recommend him highly enough. We got about 250 birds and more importantly had a great time traveling and learning about and seeing much of beautiful Rwanda.

Nous avons passé la matinée avec Claudien dans le parc Nyandugu à Kigali. Nous avons pu observer des dizaines d'espèces d'oiseaux. Claudien nous a fait le tour en français, ce qui était très agréable pour nous francophones!

What a fantastic 4 days. The best birding, guides and driver plus safe clean accommodation. As a solo female traveller I was able to relax knowing I was in good hands.
Rwanda is safe clean adventure travellers paradise and the birding is exceptional.
Claudien also helped secure cost effective hotel accommodation for my conference stay and provided a last minute extra birding in Kigali when the opportunity arose.

We were on the road for a week with Claudien in the two national parks Nyungwe and Akagera. He found us every bird and also tracked down the big animals, he reserved accommodations appropriate to our budget and we we learned quite a lot about this beautiful country Rwanda. Claudien responded to our wishes at all times and we laughed and sang together. In short, it was a fantastic week, at the end of which we became friends.
We can highly recommend Claudien!
