I had a very nice day birding around Kigali, first at Bugesera Swamp about an hour from the city, and then at the Ecopark. The guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the birds. I was picked up and returned to my hotel and the driver always felt safe. Te swamp gonolok was a highlight.

I went to Kigali for a conference, and I didn't want to go back home without glancing at Rwandan nature. I didn't have a lot of time or budget, so this one-day tour from Kigali to see the golden monkeys (Cercopithecus mitis kandti) was a good option.
The driver came to pick me up at my hotel early (4:30 AM) so we could be on time at Volcanoes NP headquarters for the introduction to the trekking at 7:00 AM. The car and the road were good, so catching up on some sleep on the way was possible. Once in the headquarters, we joined other travellers to introduce ourselves to the Golden Monkey Trekking and then went to the starting point. We walked less than an hour up to the Park's border. The terrain was a little steep but manageable without being particularly fit. The monkeys were close to the Park's border, and we spent one hour with them while they fed, groomed and played in a single spot.
Before stopping for lunch, we added a little unplanned extra to the trip and went to see the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. The campus houses an exposition on Dian Fossey's work and life, mountain gorillas, and current research and conservation work at the Park. There are a couple of nature trails around the complex, a café, and a gift shop. It is a worthwhile visit.
Overall, I was very happy I joined the tour with Birding and Educational Tours LTD and everything, from the first communications to the end of the tour, went well and with professionalism.

Claudien put together a 5-day round trip for us, including nature and wildlife as well as cultural experiences sich as visiting a coffee processing facility. The choice of accomodations totally met our expectations and the schedule was well prepared yet flexible enough to allow for changes if we had specific interests. Claudien was able to answer all our questions about Rwanda's culture, nature, economy and history. I highly recommend a custom tour with him.

I had a wonderful private bird-watching tour with Claudien.
We had agreed on a tour in advance, which in my case went to the Bugesera Wetlands. Claudien had planned a total of three different spots. Wetlands, up-the-hill and a rice field.
Claudien is an experienced birdwatcher, whom I can highly recommend. Not only does he know the bird species, he also has informative and entertaining stories about individual species.
The fact that he takes photographs himself made it pleasant in my case, as he always thinks about spatial and lighting conditions.
I was picked up in his 4x4 directly at the hotel and dropped off there again.
My package included the guide and the car. A more or less planned lunch break was not included in the package, which turned out to be the case when I paid. This in no way detracted from my experience. So I can say that I would definitely book another tour with Claudien on my next trip to Rwanda.

Organization of the Akagera family photo safari at the top 👍
Very well advised by Claudien and his entire team. We had a fabulous time as a family at a very affordable price compared to the competition.
We therefore trusted Claudien and his team a second time for a day on the lake and a visit to the tea making and the family tea picking experience. Alex the driver took great care during these two days which finalized our 1 month stay in this magnificent and magical country.
Very well advised by Claudien and his entire team. We had a fabulous time as a family at a very affordable price compared to the competition.
We therefore trusted Claudien and his team a second time for a day on the lake and a visit to the tea making and the family tea picking experience. Alex the driver took great care during these two days which finalized our 1 month stay in this magnificent and magical country.

I must admit that Rwanda is a jewel when it comes to wildlife. A short trip brought me to the land of thousand hills, Kigali- the capital city of Rwanda. And I took this opportunity to go birding which is my hobby and passion. Visiting Rwanda on my first ever trip and coming from Dubai, I was looking forward to several lifers. Before the travel, I contacted Claudien (I found his profile on eBird) and he gladly agreed to help me go birding and subsequently assigned a very knowledgeable bird guide- Joseph. We had pre identified the Nyandungu Urban Wetland Eco-tourism Park as our hotspot - a very well preserved conservation park right in the heart of Kigali. We birded for just over 3 hours and I was gifted with a whopping 50 species, almost 40 of them were lifers! What more could one ask for!! I was delighted with the nature’s Avifauna and biodiversity that Rwanda has!!
All thanks to the very diligent and sincere efforts by Joseph who is very friendly and in spite of his deep knowledge, is very humble. He took efforts to explain all the species we sighted and even sometimes carried my rather bulky camera. He really wanted me to see, hear and experience as many birds as possible. We had a fantastic afternoon with several beautiful sightings and calls. He even assisted me later with identifying calls that I recorded in the next few days. I would strongly recommend going birding with Birding and educational tours Rwanda.

I went for 2 weekend trips with Claudien to do some birding in Kigali and in Akagera. Claudien organised everything very smoothly, arranging 2 days of birdwatching in and around Kigali and then a 2-day trip to the southern part of Akagera. It was really worthwhile going with him as a guide, as he pointed out numerous birds to me and also played their songs which even helped us see shy birds.
