So as not to lose the traditional arts of Bhutan this college was set up by a local artist backed by donations and help from the Bhutanese government . Students both boys and girls can choose what they want to learn from painting, wood carving, embroidery, weaving, tailoring and slate carving on courses that can last for up to seven years. They are also taught basic English, mathematics and computer skills while at the college. We were allowed with our guide to wander in and out of class rooms whilst the students were working. The students are provided with free training, food and lodgings. It was good to see the traditional arts being taught to future generations.

Do stop to learn from the students. It is imperative to pass on the traditions and this school is providing the tools to these young women and men to do so.

Amazing school of arts that the students spend about 5 years perfecting in order to ply that trade in the outside world.

We visited this school while on a cycling tour of Bhutan organised by Mountain Kingdoms. It was truly amazing that we were able to have a private tour and saw the dedication of the students learning traditional arts. The wood carvers start there course by making their own tools, the artists learn how to stretch and prepare canvases and the needlecraft is so fine. I was delighted to learn that there are female carvers and male student completing the embroidery course. The school is now able to offer national qualifications which obviously benefit the students in finding future work. Their day is long and at the weekend there are English studies for them. The school was unable to raise funds during Covid nor benefit from sales of the students work which are available in the small shop. When a student's work is sold they receive a small commission. A very inspiring visit

I had the chance to visit this private school that provides the opportunity for financially disadvantaged bhutanese youngster to learn traditionalcrafts. The school teaches 4 different types of art. Sewing is the simplest, wood carving, painting and embroidery are more elaborate and require a 4 to 6 year education. The children also learn english, which allows them to guide you through the school and to talk to the visitors. Not only the pripose of the school makes a visit a great experience. but the art developed by the children can be admired in the shop and bought. I found it a worthwile experience and can only recommend a visit.

We visited here a week ago with a small group from the UK and it was one of the most heart-warming and impressive experiences of our 2 week trip. Disadvantaged children are taken in and given free board and tuition in the traditional arts of Bhutan, thus equipping them for jobs when they leave after several years. We were taken to each classroom to see the different specialisms. Religious painting of thankas, wood carving, embroidery, tailoring, sewing of temple decorations etc. The children themselves were delightful and, as all children in Bhutan are taught English, we could communicate with them, which makes such a difference. There is a wonderful shop where you can buy their products to support this wonderful enterprise. This should be a "must" on all tours in this area.

I visited the School as part of a trip to Bhutan organized by Overseas Adventure Travel. I was deeply impressed with Bhutanese ethics, devotion, beauty, culture and artistic traditions. The Choke Art School embodies all of those values and characteristics. I saw the students conducting there work from level 1 to level 5. I was so taken with the beauty of traditional Bhutanese art that I purchased 4 pieces - a woodblock, 2 mandalas, and a Tanka that is being completed for me and will be shipped to me. Sonam Yoezer, son the the current head, could not have been more helpful with the logistics of the art I acquired. Choki School left a lasting impression. It and the people there were some of the highlights of my visit to Bhutan. Sonam is planning on offering their art work online. I hope that the traditional Bhutanese Arts will contintinue to thrive thanks to Choki, Sonam and his mother.

It was great to visit and see the different traditional arts covering woodwork, painting and drawing, textiles and metal work. The Bhutanese craftsmen and craftwomen are then accredited and certified to work on special projects. We met a very talented painter, Yonten (certified back in 2014) later on our Exquisite Bhutan tour.

Have been fortunate enough to visit this small private school before and I am continually blown away at the improvements that are taking place. What is also incredible is that even with all the building disruptions the students continue to work and improve constantly the level of professionalism in their skills whether it is painting, weaving, carving, sewing. The school is testament to the ongoing desire to achieve high standards in the traditional crafts with the graduation students always in a position to achieve employment on leaving the school. The fact that the school provides free tuition to all the students makes it unique and all donations and sponsorship helps the school continue with their amazing work. Definitely worth visiting both because of the amazing work that is done but also because the school is also located in the lovely Kabesa valley.
