This is beautiful complex with breath-taking views is purportedly built on the site where the Buddha (in a pre-Buddha life) lay down his life under a tree for a starving tigress - and the tree is still there.
The large monastery itself is relatively new and well-funded. You arrive at a lower level with about a 1-2 block street (a few restaurants available for lunch - our delicious vegetable daal-bhat was about $3 US per person) and a small shrine. From there you take the stairs through a wooded area up to the shrine for the Buddha under a tree. From there you can wander. Be sure to visit the prayer hall.
For logistics: you can drive to this monastery but we managed to find a guide who took us on a walking tour and up into the hills (see my review of Bhaktapur Tour Guide). Separate from our walking tour in Bhaktapur, we hired Roshan to take us on a day trip to a few locations including a 4-hour walk up to and around Namo Buddha.

“We had an amazing trip to Gaia Holiday Home Dhulikhel! The experience started with a delicious lunch at Gaia, followed by a scenic drive to Namobuddha, where we visited the beautiful monasteries and explored the serene surroundings. Later, we drove to Panauti, which was another highlight of the trip. The day ended perfectly with a comfortable overnight stay at Gaia Holiday Home Dhulikhel. Everything was well-organized, and the overall experience was fantastic. Highly recommend!”

We. my son and a friend stayed a couple of nights at the monastery so we could visit the Stupa at a slow pace so we could reflect peacefully and enjoy the experience at various times of the day.
There were fewer pilgrims and tourists than on previous visits but it was the middle of the monsoon, perhaps the least popular time of year for travellers. That said, there were usually some Nepali and Tibetans performing koras and pujas throughout the day.
Early morning we were the only ones at the Stupa which seemed both auspicious and a privilege, and gave an opportunity to meditate; late afternoons when light offerings were made, was the most atmospheric.
The shops and stalls selling ritual objects - incense, beads, prayer flags, rupas etc - were open (cheaper than Thamel and Boudhanath, it seemed). The tea shops and cafes were open too.
Despite the clouds the views were good to the middle distance, at least and there was little rain. The Stupa and the monastery offered better photo opportunities than the surrounding landscape (which, on a clear day, is beautiful).
Finding more time is rewarding; people who take a day trip seem to enjoy the Stupa less than those who can linger and relax - it’s definitely worth an overnight, if not more.

Tibetan Buddhist monastery on top of the hill. You can stay (I did) with dinner and breakfast with the younger monks. A place of peace and serenity. Beautiful main temple, very helpful monks. It accommodates more than 350 people, it is gigantic. It is a particularly sacred place for Buddhists. I recommend (even to laypeople) a meditation meeting organized by the monks. Beautiful experience. From the monastery there is a wonderful downhill route towards Panauti, which I highly recommend.

una sera da vivere, suoni, candele, preghiere e colori...fumi e bandiere della pace. Consigliato una cenetta sulla terrazza di un ristorante sulla piazza

Got there first thing in the morning. Was perfect, everything was just starting to get going. There where just a couple people at the Stupa at that time. Got to walk around and get some great pictures before it got busy.

Un magnifique stupa et monastère boudhiste très coloré et qui offre une vue spectaculaire sur les montagnes et toute la campagne autour.

Grazie mille per le informazioni.

Hello Wesley, glad that you planned to visit Nepal. If you are willing to take a local bus first got Old Bus Park (also known as Puraano Bus Park) and take a bus to Banepa. From Banepa you have to change bus for Namo Buddha you may ask any local for Namo Buddha bus.

What is the price for a taxi (or 4WD) from KTM? Would prefer to do a round trip, unless it's easy to negotiate a return trip back from the Stupa. Thanks
Skrevet 21. februar 2017
not sure about the exact price as our guide paid for the ride ( it was included in the package we paid at the start of the treck).
But Nepal is pretty cheap but western standard so I would guess maybe the equivalent of 5-7 USD max.
