In June of 2023, my 14-year-old grandson, my wife and I enjoyed a jeep tour to Upper Mustang with Mountain Monarch. We all enjoyed the trip, and our guides and drivers were great! Pradip did a great job customizing our trip, adding a couple of stops and an extra day in Pokhara. This was my 3rd trip with Mountain Monarch and if I’m able to visit again, I’ll use Mountain Monarch.

Went in end march 23 to Poon hill with Mountain Monarch and it was one of our best trips. The weather was beautiful, rhododendrons in bloom, and our guide Chandra Prakash Rai (CP) was superb, as usual. This was our 3rd time in Nepal with Mountain Monarch. The sunrise and Mountain panorama from Poon hill was spectacular!
We also did a helicopter tour to Annapurna Base Camp from Pokhra, which was also arranged by Mountain Monarch to our full satisfaction.
Thanks, Pradipji and CP ji for a great experience. We will return for more adventures!!

Mountain Monarch are incredible. They go above and beyond to make your trip amazing and get you to the top.
We did Mera peak and from start to finish, Mountain Monarch were outstanding. Pradip (the owner) was brilliant. Quick and easy communication and nothing is a problem. Every aspect of the tour is excellently organised and Pradip sorted everything we needed. They supply great equipment and each member of the team was excellent.
Our main guide was Ngimanuru Sherpa and I can’t rate him highly enough. A great guy. His subtle but absolute command of every detail gives the most enjoyable and safe experience in getting to the summit. He has a real passion for what he does with great knowledge of the mountains, trails and terrain. Ngima constantly made sure our gear was in good condition, that our water was properly boiled day and night and did his absolute best to make sure we had a safe and unforgettable trip. A great guy with a great sense of humour. Whenever I go back I will be requesting if he can guide us.
Pasang (our assistant guide) is someone you want on your team. If anything was to go wrong you know he would be the man you need. He was always making sure we were happy and comfortable. A brilliant guy.
Mountain Monarch pride themselves on 1 Sherpa to 1 trekker. Other companies have 1 Sherpa to 2 trekkers loading the Sherpas up to 50 kilos so please make sure that is something you consider when booking any company in Nepal.
Our Sherpas, Prabin, Buprendra and Ramesh were fantastic. Always smiling and friendly. Without these guys none of this would be possible. I wouldn’t want anyone else on any trek so thank you to Mountain Monarch for an incredible adventure.
Overall if you are doing any hiking in Nepal, Mountain Monarch are the team you want. 5 ⭐️

We had an excellent experience with Mountain Monarch for our Mera Peak adventure. At all times we felt safe and cared for by our guides, Ngima and Pemba. The pace they set was respectful of the differing strengths across our group of three. The guides were fun and relaxed and this also manifested in the team spirit amongst the team of porters. During the trip, some unanticipated events meant that we needed to make changes to the program along the way. The team was very accommodating, going to all lengths to find the best solution. The quality of the teahouses we stayed at and the meals served was good and we enjoyed the exchanges with teahouse managers. If we were going to make a suggestion to make a positive experience even more so, it would be to provide more detail in the pre-trip information. We selected Mountain Monarch because they had a stated policy of one porter per client. Also, the requested 15kg limit, very challenging to keep within, turned out not to be a hard limit which meant we could take our own (preferred) gear rather than borrowing gear.

We are an older couple who trekked the 16 day Manaslu circuit organized by Mountain Monarch company and guided by Roshan at the shoulder of the trekking season. We have nothing but praise for both the company and the individuals who made our stay in Kathmandu and around Manaslu perfect.
Pradip as the owner of the company answered our every question fully and promptly ahead of time, suggested better ways of doing things when needed once on the ground and accommodated changes when requested.
Once we were on the trek, Roshan took over.
What can I say, Roshan is a darling. With his direction and guidance our experience was so positive we wish we were still on the trek.
Although we were at the shoulder of the season so some tea houses already closed, Roshan found alternatives, organized other guides to have enough guests to request a place to reopen, paid attention to our quirky requests with a smile and laughed at my husband’s jokes. Just perfect. Our porters, Lila and Jeet were also wonderful. They lugged our overpacked duffels without a complaint and even allowed us to access it in the middle of the day when we needed unforeseen items from the packs. Our experience was so overwhelmingly positive, we want ti do it again.

Oh my gosh, where to begin! This is THE company you want to use if you plan to hire a guide to trek in Nepal! We did the 3 Passes trek with them. My husband and I started talking to Pradeep the owner, the year before our trip. He was very responsive and answered all of our questions. He was even willing to modify a private trip to meet our time schedule. The 3 Passes Trek itself is AMAZING! And much of our success was in large part due to our guide Ram and our 2 porters Shapta and Bhupal. Part or the reason we selected this company was because of their Responsible Trekking policy and the fact that they use 1 porter for every client. Some companies overload their porters with 2+ people's load, which seemed excessive. They also are serious about their clients successfully navigating the altitude, and go to great lengths to ensure acclimatization is slow and gradual. They also carried a full O2 tank with them for emergency at higher altitudes. We didn't need it, but it was an example of their focus on safety. I didn't see any other guides doing this. When we arrived in Katmandu, Pradeeps partner Subash was waiting for us and easy to find. Our trip included transfers to a local hotel, which was clean, had a good shower and included a simple breakfast. Our service also included a guided city tour to 2 temples / stupas with an english-speaking guide, as well as our 4 hour transfer to Ramechhap to catch our flight to Lukla the next day (also included). FYI - as of April 2023, there were no commercial flights going from Katmandu to Lukla anymore. This may change in the future. But be prepared for a bumpy, early morning ride to Ramechhap and then a shorter flight to Lukla. Once in Lukla, we were immediately greeted by our guides and porter, who were friendly and very patient. Although the porters hiked at their own pace and often were ahead of us to the villages, our guide Ram walked our pace the entire time, was extremely patient and encouraging over the harder sections. He was also the perfect combination of conversive-when-we-wanted-to-talk and respectful of time we wanted to just walk in silence and enjoy the view. All the teahouses that MM selected for us were wonderful and the food was delicious. If you'd like to see more photos and our full description and itinerary, please find me at Paradox Travel on Facebook or search for our travel blog by that name and sign up for when I post new reviews and posts. We plan to use MM again to trek the Annapurna area in 2025. Hire them! (and tip the guide and porters well! ) You won't be disappointed.

I travelled to Nepal in late April/early May 2023 to summit Imja Tse (Island Peak) with my brother. It was a great trip and we both summited successfully in large part thanks to the support of our guides at Mountain Monarch.
- Roshan (lead guide), Pasang (support guide) were with us the entire time. Pemba (support guide) was with us for most of the trek but had to turn back with a sick trekker before we got to Island Peak base camp. They were very knowledgeable and provided me with some great advice on medication and diet to help ease my altitude sickness. They were also personable and friendly, it was a pleasure to spend time with and get to know them.
- Chettan (climbing guide) is based at Island Peak base camp for the season and was with us in the days leading up to the summit and on summit day. He is highly experienced and without him many of us would not have summited.
Key takeaways:
I would highly recommend Mountain Monarch overall. They are a locally run company (no western overheads) with great guides and a 1:1 trekker to porter policy which means our porters only had to carry ~15kg each (vs ~30kg with other companies). The key drawback is that they did not carry a satellite phone. If choosing to travel with them, I would recommend that you confirm that they have one and if not, purchase one or a Personal Location Beacon to have with you in case of emergencies as you may go many days with no reception.
Additional information about the trip:
- Accomodation: We stayed in lodges/tea houses for most of the trip until we reached Island Peak Base camp where we stayed in 2person tents. We were able to stay warm even in the tents thanks to the sleeping bags and fleece liners that were provided.
- Water / snacks etc: The company provides 3 meals / days and 3L of boiler water / day. Additional snacks and water need to be purchased separately. The tea houses all had bottled water, snacks and toilet paper for sale although you’re better off going to the small stores in the town for supplies as it is more cost effective. The best places to stock up are Namche Bazaar and Dingboche (likewise for meds)
- Safety: The guides carried a first air kit which includes diamox and lots of upset stomach medication. They also had a tank of oxygen. My understanding is that they were carrying dexamethasone but I did not see this (luckily we did not need it). One thing the medical kit didn’t have was strapping tape, I would recommend having a roll with you in case or sprains etc.
- Mobile / Satellite Reception: The guides did not have a satellite phone which was concerning. If choosing to travel with them, I would recommend that you confirm that they have one and if not, purchase one or a Personal Location Beacon to have with you in case of emergencies as you may go many days with no reception. Ncell coverage stops at the town before Dingboche and while Everest Link may work in different spots / you may be able to purchase wifi at tea houses along the way, it is hit-and-miss so I wouldn’t rely on it.
- Additional costs: I would recommend budgeting at least 10-20USD/day for things like water/snacks/other incidentals and 15% of the cost of the trip to provide a tip to the guides/porters and base camp chef at the end of the trip.

A first class experience with a first class organisation!!!
I have used Mountain Monarch four times now for various treks in Nepal. They've always excelled and shown an incredibly high standard and this time was no exception to that.
Last month I took my 13 year old son out with me to Everest Base Camp with Ngima Sherpa and Horizon. Both of these guides are well respected in the region and in fact are called on to help with other groups which struggle without the correct equipment. Mountain Monarch carries a PAC (portable altitude chamber) and oxygen at all times on trek so that we as trekkers are assured of medical safety.
We were monitored daily which included fitness, tiredness, oxygen levels and food and wellbeing.
I found out guides caring and really good hearted people with great strength and character. My son was absolutely safeguarded by the guides at all times and I did not worry at all knowing that Ngima Sherpa and Horizon were taking great care of all of us.
The accommodation quality and attention to detail and care levels is second to none. If you're thinking of trekking and climbing in the Himalayas, then I would say, don't hesitate to use Mountain Monarch. They're a first class organisation with a big heart.

I did the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek (incl. ABC) - 14 days. It was truly fabulous and so was the service given by Mountain Monarch. Pradip, my guide Jit and my porter Lile consistently went above and beyond to make sure that I had the best possible experience in their beautiful country.
I had not intended to do the trek solo, but when the others in the group had to postpone their trip, mine still went ahead - many other companies would have cancelled that departure. Instead, I got the VIP experience on the trek😀
When flights from Pokhara back to Kathmandu after the trek were cancelled due to weather conditions, Pradip drove me back himself.
A company which genuinely cares about taking care of its customers is a rare gem indeed. I am so happy that I chose to trek with Mountain Monarch and encourage others to do the same.

In early April 2023 I trekked to Mera Peak with Mountain Monarch. This was my second trip with MM and it was as enjoyable and successful as my previous trip (Everest Photography Trek). Hiking up the Hinku Valley is quite different than hiking on the Everest side, less traveled and not as developed. Very different treks and both worth doing. Many thanks to Pradip and Ngima Nuru for arranging and guiding our trek to Mera summit.

Hi, I am at the early stages of planning a EBC high passes trip for Nov 2020. I have singled out MM as most likely operator I'll book with.
Can anyone tell me what hotel/hotels MM use in Kathmandu and can you upgrade if the need for a bit of pampering is needed post trek?

Hi, there they do use the Harati Mannor Inn which is reasonable for Kathmandu. PRADIP is very approachable and you can arrange and up grade post trek. Places like Shanka or the Address are good to consider for an up grade. MM will taylor to suit your personal needs.

I'm sorry but I have no specific information on either of those two treks. I can highly recommend going with Mountain Monarch. While nearly all guide companies get five star ratings and the rates are all very comparable, MM is a little different. The One porter, One client policy not only reduces the individual porter load, it employs more locals and allows the client to pack more weight (15 kg vs. 10 kg with other guides). On your Island Peak climb, your guide will have bottled O2, which is a reassuring thing to have. Enjoy your trek.

Good day, trekkers. Is trekking in February possible or is the winter weather too extreme? Which of the MMA treks would be the most rewarding (and without undue risk) at that time of year? Thank you. I am so very impressed with the many outstanding reviews here. Thanks. Curt

We are here right now - late May. Did AmaDablam base camp. 4600 m. Very pleasant but chilly - down to about -3c at night. Had a friend who came in Feb and regretted it - another tour company though and they were tenting. MM give you great jackets to keep you warm and the sleeping bags are toasty.

For the 23 day 3 Pass Trek in Oct/17. How much cash do you suggest I bring during the trek? Not planning to buy pizza/cake or any additional food, and meals are provided by MM.
Thank you in advance,

I wouldn't say that! A slice of pizza, chocolate bars and cokes can be really rewarding after long days walking. The same for the wifi connection and hot showers. Even in the mountains you will be able to get access to them and in some places you have to pay for it.
But all that shouldn't cost you much. I really don't remember how much I brought but I followed the suggestions MM sent me, I think it was around U$300 for 16 days.Mountain Monarch can easily help you with that.

Another quick Q - if due to time constraints I can't do the Three Pass Trek (23 days - this is the one I REALLY want to do), how is the Gokyo Lakes Trek (18 days)? Is EBC a must?

Mariana , the Gokyo Lakes Trek is a great itinerary and the view from Gokyo Ri is simply stunning. Unless you are at EBC in late March - late May there will not be any base camp tents etc to view. For me EBC is not a must. I would say given the investment in time and planning to visit Nepal I would take all steps possible to undertake the 23 day trek. Good Luck .

Hello! I'm having a difficult time deciding between MM's Everest Circuit Trek (21 days) and the Three Pass Trek (23 days). They seem to have a similar route at the beginning and the end, but the middle looks of the itinerary looks different.
I'll greatly appreciate the input of those familiar with these routes.
Namaste!

Mariana, I am so sorry for taking so long to answer your question. I haven't checked my messages on Trip Advisor for a long time.
If it is still time... the 3 Passes is more complete trekking and you can have more access to many different routes and views. A bit longer though and you will spend more time on altitude, but it is worth.
Go to 3 passes!

Me and a couple of friends are looking around to climb Everest Base Camp October/November 2017. I have been reading most of the reviews and I feel confident about booking the trip with MMA. What are the tea houses (accommodation) like?
Thanks

Like Ron been said, the tea houses leading up to Everest are usually comprised of a central area with seats and tables round the outside and a yak-dung stove in the centre for warmth in the evenings; this is where you socialise, relax and eat your meals.
The rooms are usually two beds with a table in the middle, quite small but the central area is where you'll spend the time you're not sleeping. The beds were fine in my experiences.
Almost all the tea houses have a small shop area where you can get basics and charge your phone or get wifi, but it gets progressively more expensive as you get higher.

Difficult to answer as it depends how fit and adventures you are. For great mountain experience recommend Annapurna Dhaulagiri circuit - good for a honeymoon
Hi,
I am a 49 year old male from Bangalore, India. I am reasonably fit and hope to be in good physical condition by the time I set off on the EBC trek. I am looking to do a trek beginning around the first week of November 2016 ( 2 months from now ) and hope to reach base camp on 17th...which will be my 50th birthday!
I would like to know if this is possible? thanks

Hi Ananda!
I definitely think it is possible for you to do the trek! The best training is HILL walking and lots of CARDIO. If you just take your time and enjoy the scenery you will be fine . I also highly recommend taking 1000mg of Echinacia and Ginko Biloba each day- they are good for your respiratory system and circulation. I had never been to altitude before and I had no issues. Some of my fellow travelers were taking Diamox and still felt it a bit, but I was fine. Hope you have an awesome trip!
Cheers, Tiffany
