Very interesting to see this monument, which is in the centre of a large road intersection. The monument is enormous and there are gardens surrounding it however, it’s very hard to get to because of all of the roads converging and the heavy traffic. There are very good street markets surrounding the area where you can enjoy food and view the monument from the distance.

Very poignant monument situated in the middle of a large busy roundabout, not much you can do there do to the location.

The Monument is not quite on most visitors’ list of must-see but is definitely visible and imposing! We made a trip here which is few stations away from the Chatuchack Weekend Market, the same Metro Line.
A decorated garden in the centre of a big vehicular roundabout, the central obelisk-shaped monument is frequently used in the West for national and military memorials. It is shaped more a sword-like, like a few bayonets clasped together. .At a lower portion stood 5 statues, representing the formation of army, navy, air force, police, and civilian population. Unfortunately, there was gate and it was locked, also crossing over from either side of roads seems challenging so we did not manage to take a closer look. Only at the overhead connecting bridge, onboard BTS and on the ground to admire the awe from a distance. There is a market near to the station, here we took a break and try out a Royal Thai puff + local thai tea!

Thailand was the only country in Southeast Asia not to be occupied during the second world war but it wasn't totally uninvolved in the conlict. It did fight a war against the (by-then) Vichy-controlled French and managed to regain some previously lost territory in Indochina. And that's the whole point of this monument that stands in the middle of a roundabout. From afar, it looks like an obelisk, but up close, it's really five connected bayonets connected in the middle. Surrounding the central obelisk at its base are five statues representing the army, air force, navy, police and civilians.
Is it worth getting a close-up look? In my opinion, probably not unless one is a strong Thai history bufff. The monument's most easily observed from the airconditioned comfort of a BTS train (Sukhumvit line) - it'll be on the left if heading north, or on the right side if heading south.

Had a 8 hour layover @ BKK in the evening and took the ARL train and BTS (61B total) to Victory monument just because it was around 30 minutes. Took me awhile to find the boat noodle restaurant Baan Kuay Tiew Ruathong. The boat noodles were fantastic and cheap 13B each, but was underwhelmed with the area as it's not particularly outstanding in any way for shopping, walking or sight seeing. Should have spent an extra 15 minutes and went to

Hi! When eating at Boat Noodle Alley, how do you order? Do you just seat on any vacant seat table? How do you pay when you are done eating?

do they sell street food on monday nights?
VincentHoKuching
Kuching197 bidrag
Plenty of street food there every night!
Be warned that though there are many stalls, they mostly sell the same stuff.
You might want to walk up any one of the 4 main streets coming into the Victory Monument roundabout...I found little shops that sell much better fare, and still at reasonable prices.
Unless you are eating alone, I think that's a better option? You get to eat real food instead of junk food.
But, to each his own. Just seek out the food you love best.

hi I read a blog saying they have stopped passenger vans from victory monument to Mae klong train station to connect to ampawha floating market.
is this true?? I am finding it hard to find a cheap and easy route from Bangkok to southern bus terminal as it seems a bit far out too to take taxi.
any one can confirm if the bus or vans from victory monument have stopped?

Can you give me instructions from the BTS (which stop) to the mini vans to Kanchanaburi? What time do they leave? Do I have to book? Are they airconditioned? How much do they cost and how long does the journey take? Do they stop on the way? Are they safe?

Minivans are generally airconditioned!
I have never travelled on a MInivan to Kanchanaburi, but many times to Ayutthaya.
I guess BKK to Kan#buri around 2 hours.
I cannot give you instructions where to find the minivan.
Ask any minivan driver or organizer for 'rot dtuu' (that is the word for minivan) to Kanchanaburi.
Nice alternative to the minivan is the train from Thonburi station just on the other side of the river. 2 trains a day, either way.
