I love train travel, and I've travelled in a sleeper car in Vietnam before. But this was a really nice experience. the inside of the carriage was nice, with a toilet at each end of the carriage. But the cabin was beautiful, with nice dark timber panelling, power points, nice lighting, and enough space.
Don't expect it to be a smooth ride all the way though. It's an experience :)

We were treated like special guests throughout our trips. We were a group of four adults and the room was small but comfortable. The ride was as smooth as a train ride can be. The bunks were comfortable and the room was air conditioned so even the top bunks were cool. The bathroom was clean and very nice. We were greeted with refreshments in the morning before leaving the train. Would recommend to take a ride.

Nous étions prévenus de l'aspect rustique. Voyageant à 4 nous avons pu avoir un compartiment entier pour nous ce qui facilite les choses. Il y a peu d'espace de rangement sauf sous les couchettes du bas. Mais un sac trop haut risque de ne pas passer. Pour les toilettes nous sommes allés dans le wagon suivant qui était plus récent. Une expérience à faire hors des normes pour touristes.

We travelled from Hanoi to Lao Cai railway station on the Victoria Express. You then get transporting Sapa via mini buses about an hour away
Check was pretty painless, they have a lounge at the station and you luggage is taken for you to the lounge.
You get tea and a seat. There is a mini supermarket in the station downstairs to buy anything you need for the journey, prices in the lounge itself are high
You get help to take you luggage to the train, they seen to call you in small groups to board
You take all you luggage to your cabin. So can be a squeeze if it doesn’t fit under your bed.
We had a 4 berth cabin for the two of us, it was okay. We use the spare duvets to lay on and the bed although a bit narrow was fine
There is no restaurant car, there are two toilets which are clean and have hot & cold waterstaff onboard are friendly & helpful
There is a power socket in the cabin to charge phones etc. & the WiFi worked well although did struggle with FaceTime
You get two bottles of water, some people got fruit.
The train departs at 22:00 and does shake about and is noisy but I slept on & off okay.
They wake you at 05:30 with coffee or tea and a small croissant and you arrive at 06:00

We booked the VIP 2 berth cabin and the trip was nice. It is nicer than we thought or read from the other reviews. The cabin was clean and we had some freebies to enjoy during the trip. Staff are friendly and in good mood. We were warned not to take the morning coffee from the lady but we did and paid for it since it is just a small amount and she is quite polite and friendly. Highly recommend this train to everyone!

Bed, pillow and blanket are comfortable. Snack,drink and banana are given. The toilet is surprisingly clean. We are a team of six and we took two cabins. The young ones enjoyed the double deckers. We old folks enjoy the two bed cabin though its more pricey.

ข้อดี : ปลอดภัย, มีอาหารบะหมี่กึ่งสำเร็จรูปและเครื่องดื่มขาย
ข้อเสีย : ตู้รถไฟค่อนข้างเก่า (ยี่ห้ออื่นที่ราคาเท่าๆกัน คิดว่าสภาพตู้เก่าเหมือนกัน)
:ห้องน้ำขาไปจากฮานอย สะอาด ขากลับจากLao Cai มีกลิ่นเหม็น แต่ไม่สกปรก
** จากฮานอยต้องไปขึ้นรถไฟที่ Terminal B ต้องเดินจาก Ternimal A ประมาณ 300ม. และต้องไปติดต่อ Orient Express box office ซึ่งอยู่ที่เดียวกับ Pumkin Train

Booked a vip booth for two from Hanoi to Sapa and back. The experience was terrible. The only positive was that the trains both times were on schedule. I understand that this is an overnight train, however the cost of a 5*hotel is cheaper than the price of the train therefore the conditions of it are simply not acceptable. We have had cockroaches in our cabin, the bedding inside had cockroaches! The bed covers and pillows were dirty and not changed. The bevarages provided were moldy. The train itself was very old, damped and scary to be on due to the level of rocking ( a ride if Thorpe Park feels more stable). The toilets were a nightmare and the whole place smelled. Please re consider taking this option, a normal sitting carriage seems cleaner;you are unlikely to get any sleep even if you try.

We booked the Orient Express without knowing what we are getting into - and we know, never again! Wood class is great. After many minutes, we found someone who spoke English and could tell us which compartment we needed to. The compartment was low class and is not even the standard - the mattresses are hard and uncomfortable, the cleanliness left a lot to be desired and the jerking of the train was not exactly nice to sleep it felt like on a trampoline! And to top it all, there were cockroaches on the walls!

Orient Express is an overnight experience to Sapa but is overrated.Vietnam Rail is an option but internal flights or bus or private bus/,car are another option

Yes it is. I booked through Victoria express which had a carriage on the train. It was an experience. Sapa was well worth the journey.
