The fact that my review has been taken off for telling the truth shows that these people have something they are ashamed off and wanting to hide -otherwise leave it on here as I will be telling anyone and everyone I can why NOT to
Come here.
I visited this place on day one and it is beautiful memory of Thich N H is firmly there -so I visited the next day.
Whilst I was trying to do a meditation in the garden, I saw something on the ground and found a dying tabby kitten needing water and food with its ribs popping out of its chest . I was mortified picked it up found a hose pipe and tried to give it water but it wouldn’t stop meowing so I called one of the monks.
He picked it up indifferently and took it to the kitchen and just put it on the table and walked off . One of the old Buddhist women there told me to get the cats and leave . Nobody was doing anything about it and I had to insist that somebody gave it water and food. The cat could even even stand up and by this point I couldn’t stop crying. I was absolutely mortified and traumatised.
What shocked me the most is that the monks there couldn’t have cared less there was no compassion no emotion nothing. How did a cat end up like this? Why didn’t somebody call the vet? Kat was dying right in front of me and in the end I had to just leave. I couldn’t do anything. It was literally dying in front of them.
I know the Buddhist religion says that one with nature, but this to me was absolutely brutal and has left me with one of the worst memories I have ever had in Vietnam and in Asia .
Treatment of this animal was clear. Abuse.
The fact that they have even taken my review off shows they have something to hide and I will say it again but it’s shameful they are supposed to be spiritual people and this is supposed to be a sanctuary. Why don’t we start with nature since this is what Buddhist traditions preach
I I will tell everyone online about my experience with this monastery. -I don’t believe that somebody like THICH NH would have ever thought this treatment of this animal was right and it’s a great shame the monks here are a representation of him .

Although not a place included in the tours it is a beautiful monastery, surrounded by nature and silence that provide great inner peace. Not being a tourist destination allows you a walk in total solitude.

Does anyone know if it is possible to participate in retreats or daily meditations at the Tu Hieu Temple in Vietnam, the temple where Thich Nhat Hanh spent his final years? Thank you very much

Magical place without more.
Inhabited by 32 monks, and at times when ceremonies are held there can be more than 300, as in these days of January.

One of the most beautiful budhism places I've visited in Vietnam. Peaceful and quiet, the best place for the Monk Thich Nhat Hanh. This is the temple where eunuchis and monks rest on peace anche when people can pray for them. Go to visit them, even if it's not in your travel planning ask your local guide to bring you there

Well worth a visit. We went on a Monday when it was quiet and practically had the place to ourselves.

I could feel the peace viscerally. Very beautiful place.
We were disappointed not to see any monks or meet anyone who could tell us more than the paragraph in our guidebook. I would still recommend for the beauty and location.

This is a lesser known gem with some awesome real culture coupled with beautiful architecture and history, but avoid at the weekends if you can as it’ll be flooded with locals asking the Buddha for blessings (not a very Buddhist thing to do in fact).
Not sure if it is always free, but we walked in free of charge on a Sunday. My guess is maybe it is, as it is a Buddhist temple.
If you like it, then go check out the final resting place of Thich Naht Hanh (he was super famous in the West in religious circles) at Từ Hiếu Pagoda for a less touristy more authentic cultural encounter with Buddhism.

Located between the city and Tomb of Tu Duc, this pagoda is peaceful, hidden away in lush vegetation. I liked the greenish water lily pond near its entrance gate, nice to take photos with. It's aka "Eunuch Pagoda" because there r many tombs here where eunuchs in the Imperial City was buried. Recently, Thich Nhat Hanh, one of the most famous Vietnamese monks in the world, rested in peace.

Just outside Hue this complex contains many areas of worships as well as a big nunnery dedicated to young Buddhist female nuns and novices.
We spent a wonderful couple of hours here taking pictures and having lunch at the nunnery.

Hello Emily,
Do you know if we need to book a place before staying here as a lay-friend? I've been to the Thai Plum Village & I had to pre-book my space.
I wanted to stay in Tu Hieu, I've not been able to find much information online.
Skrevet 26. juni 2019
I don't know if there are over-night options. i do know that the nun's fix lunch and they will share with visitors.

Why does Jeff B post his review in the wrong place? This page is about the Tu Hieu Pagoda, but Jeff's review is about another pagoda in Hue, the Thien Mu Pagoda! It does not belong here. Why does TripAdvisor approve his review when it is submitted on the wrong page? Why is there nowhere to go when you notice a factual mistake among the reviews on TripAdvisor?

Hi there
Does anyone know whether it is possible to go and stay at the Tu Hieu Pagoda for a week or so, and join the routine?
Thanks,
Peter
