Thought the museum was excellent. It has some Dead Sea scrolls and the copper scroll including some jars they were found in. There were lots of other things on the ground floor taking you through Jordan’s history back to the Stone Age. On the floor above they had a great video and lots of interesting information about Arab pioneers and inventors that was very interesting.

The Jordanian Museum is located in the heart of the city, along a main road, accessible by car or bus. Free parking is available on site.

Admission costs 5 JD per person for foreign visitors. The welcome is smiling and friendly, full of respect. The museum is composed of two levels. On the ground floor there is a historical, archaeological, cultural part, on the whole history of Jordan. Some treasures are highlighted in a separate part. Don’t miss the section devoted to Dead Sea scrolls. Everything is well highlighted in this modern museum.

Upstairs, a very playful and interesting part concerning the inventions of the Arab world that one would not suspect to be at the origin of so many scientific advances. A game that will delight the youngest because everything is tactile and we can quickly take to the game.

Allow 2 hours visit at least if you want to see everything. We were able to visit the museum quietly because there were hardly any tourists

A tour from the old period to new Jordan. A visit to The Jordan Museum was so fruitful. Exploring the map, population, energy power, how to prepare Mansaf, old stones from thousands of years, traditional dresses, weapons, utensils, old languages and many others. Visit 1001 Inventions Exhibition, and meet old Muslim and Arab scientists, fly with Ibn Fernas, indulge in some interesting history games, take a photo with old dress with Al Jahez. Such a great visit. Entry ticket is very reasonable.

Guidebooks state that the Jordan Museum has very limited opening hours, but this is not the case. It is open until 7pm (although Fridays may be shoter hours) so check Google for info instead.
The museum is central- just down the road from the ampitheatre- and well worth a visit.

As well as covering the region's history, displays explore Jordans geology, energy options, and resources. The ground floor focuses on these aspects and the ancient history of Jordan. Upstairs, the focus is on the arabic 'renaissance'- the science and art that exploded in the region while Europe etc were stuck in the dark ages. It really is quite fascinating to follow the timeline through the museum and see the sudden and drastic development which occured.

Some of the most ancient art works in the world are housed here, highlighting the longevity of civilisation in this part of the globe. Lime plaster human figures from Ayn Ghazal date back 9000 years and are the first known sculptures in the world.
The Tulaylat al Ghassul wall painting fragments displayed here are the earliest known depictions of ceremonial dress, including figures in masks (dating from 5-7000 years ago).

The route through the museum takes you through the neolithic, to the bronze age, the greeks and romans...byzantine and islamic eras and beyond. A very interesting walk through history and very well explained.

One room is dedicated to displaying Jordan's portion of the Dead Sea Scrolls. A highlight for many.

Displays covering the progression of language are also of interest, with examples of proto alphabets, the development of letters, the aphabets of migrant populations and development over time. You can type your name in English and see how to write it in aramaic, greek, nabatean and arabic.

Many of the displays are interactive- touch, press, listen. Some have videos with characters in costume explaining their role.

I had a few hours spare at the end of my day and headed here with a couple of fellow guests from my hotel. Very glad that I did, even though we did not have time to explore the exhibits fully before closing time.

The Jordan museum tells the story of Jordan throughout the ages. It took me a full two hours to see all of the exhibits in this modern museum, opened in 2006. Some of the exhibits date back thousands of years, such as the prehistoric stone tools. There is a two-headed statue that is over 9500 years old and is one of the oldest human statues in the world. At one exhibit, you could see your name in Jordan's different alphabets. In another rooms, there is an exhibit of the Dead Sea scrolls.

On the upper floor was an exhibit I has seen in London in 2010. The "1001 Inventions: Discovering Our Past . . Inspiring Our Future" exhibit featured Arab discoveries and scientific advancements during the so-called "Dark Ages".

Crazy museum! Beautiful is an understatement. Well told, interactive, never boring. Only in Britain have I seen this level. Truly exceptional. And beyond a few truly incredible pieces (primarily the primitive statuettes and the Dead Sea Scrolls) it is not what is exhibited but how, that is, with a great deal of intelligence and organization. Really amazing! Don't miss it and kids will love it too!

If you want more information about Jordan's early years, before the year 0, this is the place for you. Many well-preserved objects, but also how important it is that the Dead Sea does not disappear. A must see
