Not even 24 hours after arriving in Colombia, I was ROBBED nearby Carrera 7 in broad daylight around 9:30am right across the street from the Four Seasons hotel. In front of Embajada de los Emiratos Árabes. A police impersonator and at least 3 other bad actors were involved in this scam and robbery. My phone, my mom's phone, and 300 USD was stolen.
We were first stopped by a lady (who was in on this scam) asking for directions on Carrera 7 in front of the Fed Ex. We explained we don't speak Spanish and as we were walking away she flagged down a man and he said he was "undercover police". He had fake credentials and spoke some English. Telling me he needed to re-verify our status in Colombia and make sure we were not drug smuggling, or a victim of human trafficking - including the lady asking for directions.
We were asked for our phones, id, and money brought into the country so they can be reviewed. The lady's belongings were handed back to her, along with a card verifying her presence in Bogota with an emergency phone number on it. While the "cop" was reviewing ours a passerby (who was obviously in on this scam) and another "officer" then surrounded us and distracted us saying this is common practice in Bogota and it is just protocol as the "cop" walked away with our phones and money.
After speaking to others on the street where this took place we realized we were robbed. We went to a small police stand on Carrera 7 and in very poor Spanish I explained "nos robaron" but not much help was provided or given in terms of filing a report.
Unfortunately, I was not able to see the beauty of Colombia due to these terrible low-life bums. I bought a one way ticket home and did not even spend 72 hours in the country.
This review is not to bad mouth the country or the people, but to highlight that NOWHERE is safe. Not even Zona G where you see Audis and Mercedes. Not even on a lively street lined with police. Not even in broad daylight.
Police impersonation is a serious crime and was the last thing I expected in Zona G at 9:30am on a Thursday. I intended to stay for a couple weeks, but this was a sign that Colombia is not for me.
I just returned from Bogota about an hour ago and I am so glad to be back in my home country, the United States. I do not think I will ever return.

Esta zona de Bogotá reúne muchas opciones para almorzar o tomar un buen café. Aunque hay varios sitios para estacionar el auto, la experiencia suele ser mejor si se visita a pie y se camina por sus calles. Ojalá hagan algo para frenar la presencia creciente de mendigos y personas que piden dinero o venden bolsas de basura

Es un sector muy lindo para recorrer, la arquitectura difiere de otros sectores de Bogotá y las casas se han transformado en restaurantes de diversas especialidades. Recomendamos las pizzas en JULIA, deliciosas!

I stayed in this neighborhood and really enjoyed the bustle and activity. At night it is very quiet, but during the day it is active. There are dozens of good restaurants ranging from budget to fine dining. I felt safe walking around during the day.

Must visit place in Bogotá. This is an area of restaurants, pubs, bars, and some stores on the north side of Bogotá... juxtaposed with the highest-end living area. This makes prices slightly higher, but then you're paying for being in an exclusively cool area. Endless food type/cuisine options. Cool street vibe. Safe to walk, as there are always people there. Way LESS problems, beggars, thieves than Zona T and a less chaotic night life when the clock gets later (no crazy clubs like in Zona Rosa). Streets and sidewalks can be a bit tricky to walk, so watch your step (read NOT flat or even, but then again you're on a mountainside in Latin America). Highly recommended anytime, even for breakfast (nearby Al Agua Patos) or a late night beer (yes, there's a BBC among other pubs).

I went for a walk and we didnt like because the streets were kinda dirty... theres so many shops and restuants to go, but try to go esrly afternoon to have som e dinner
