A wonderful overview of Korean History. My favorite parts were the section regarding calligraphy and celanders.
If you explore the outside area this can easily be 3 hours or longer.

My wife and I spent 10 days in South Korea
We thought that we'd look at the museum.
It was a lot bigger than I expected.
Beautiful exhibits and very clean.
Definitely allow enough time to see it all.

There are dates of finding on almost all exibits (really, who needs that info???), but usually no dates or periods or era of their creation and too few descriptions of artefacts have english translations but too much of them doesn't, and without any obvious reason. Second, there is nothing about modern history of S.Korea, like it stopped to exist after 1945. and that is sad, since a Korean sucess story would be really big thing to tell. On the other hand, there are couple of perfect multimedia rooms who are all cool and high tech and fine idea, but real history is not that much about showing contemporary creativity, but about events that have shaped current society as it is now - and such events, at least many very important ones from the last 77 yrs, there are none. They should send a delegation to Helsinky, Finland so they can learn how perfect national museum can be made with whole nation's history, up to date, inside. Good luck!

This is a free museum and really well thought through. It was a threatening rainy day and it did rain on our way to the outdoor garden area, so we cut our walk short. Don't miss the garden walk. What we saw was great!!! Also please leave a donation to help support this wonderful museum. It gives the visitors and citizens alike a great history lesson on Korea.

In 10-2019 i had the pleasure to travel to South Korea from Greece and to visit the National Museum of Korea. It was an experience like no other. The magic begin even before you step your foon in it. You can brouse the beautiful garden and the lake resting spot and clear your mind. Afer that you are greeted to a Fantastic modern structure filled with History, explanations in English next to each exibit, and great collection. Everything is FREE! I also recomend to have lunch at the many type restaurants insude the museum, the food is delicious and not expensive.I just loved the whole experience . It is a Must Visit place!

Extensive collection of artifacts, very organized, museum is completely free. We spent about 3 hours there on a rainy Friday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. Audioguide app is bad (short descriptions, robotic voice, you have to bring your own headphones). The architecture of the building is stunning, museum shop is nice

Excellent mix of permanent and limited-time special/seasonal exhibitions. I especially liked the portions devoted to ancient Korean history relics, and the immersive cinema/digital gallery.

You can take Line 4 (Jungang Line) to Ichon station. Get out at exit 2 and walk towards Yongsan family park. It is open daily from 10am to 6pm. It is open for longer on Wednesdays and Saturdays. On Sundays it is open up to 7pm. Your hotel is located between City Hall and Seoul Metro stations - and you can ask the concierge staff at your hotel which is the best station to use to get to Ichon station.

You should take line 4 to get to Ichon station. Then take exit 2 and walk for about 200 metres heading towards the Yongsan Family Park.

Yes, there are boxes to keep your belongings, however the luggages can leave at the counters. There are museum staffs helping you for this.
Hello. I bought a tea set from the museum store and I just saw that you can't take cultural assets out of Korea. My question is: is the tea set I bought considered a cultural asset and do I need to be worried about it being confiscated/possible imprisonment?
