Stay on Elephantine island, not the mainland- it is so much nicer!
We stayed at Mostafa Jamaica House just above King Jamaica restaurant and had the best time. The food, the people, the lifestyle- perfect.
Ask for Mostafa from Nubian dreams to take you out on his felucca for a day trip (or multi day trip), you won’t be disappointed. His boat hand Nasir is also an amazing cook- some of the best food we’ve eaten our whole time in Egypt. Incredible duo.

My wife and I took a felucca ride around Elephantine Island in Aswan during a Nile River cruise this past December. It was a scenic ride and very relaxing.

Stayed in Elephantine Island for 2 nights in Green Nubian House. This facility is more like a homestay with a room provided with 2 bedrooms, kitchen, balcony, and large living room. As for the island, it is away from the noise of Aswan city and is quiet and peaceful. There is a ferry boat which takes passengers to and fro from the island at EGP10 each way and is frequent. As for the island, it has many houses with narrow lanes, although it is a small island (1.2km long, 400m wide). Its walkway may not be as clean and can be a bit messy. You need Google maps to get around as there are many criss crossing lanes with no signages. There are nice views of sunrise and sunset on the island and you can just walk across the island easily. Overall, nice place for peace and quiet.

We loved our trip to Elephantine Island and it was an opportunity to spend time with local people and understand more about their story and how they live, highly recommended. The food and the hospitality we received was absolutely fantastic.

Entrance fee here is 160 EGP that includes the visit of the small Aswam Museum and the ruins of Ancient Aswam behind it.
A guy met me at the Entrance Area and unlocked the Museum Doors for me. On display are an ancient Marriage Contract, small carvings, tools, spears, etc. Outside are three huge statues on display.
Behind the Museum: I was surprised to see the ruins of the ancient Aswam being restored. Took some pictures here and left.

Vale la pena hacer el cruce hacia la isla, como una visita complementaria a Aswan... se puede cruzar en ferry hasta allí.

It is a hard and painful poverty that moves the heart and changes the mood of the trip. There are trash everywhere and it is a sand floor (so forget to bring luggage here).
I saw some Europeans fascinated with this poverty and filth. Well, I come from a developing country and I can say that it is only sad, nothing to admire.
The painted houses are very isolated, it is a kind of one picture place.
If you're willing to do charity, please help the locals, they are very friendly and it is a safe place to walk around.
Unfortunately I can't recommend for the readers this place.

Sort of enjoyed going to the island and seeing some museums and temple ruins but found it all a little underwhelming!!
Boat ride across nice and relaxing but once on the island very dirty, no signage and very hard to find attractions.
Museum at best OK and temple ruins fairly good but nothing spectacular, so would recommend visiting island but if short on time you can easily give it a miss.
Research island what to do before you go.

Noi turisti ripartiamo... loro no.

We sailed on the river by a local boat „felukka” and passed around the island. The giant rocks looked like grey elephants on the south part. In the past a town (Szvenet) stood there, and it was the center of the cult of the ram-headed god. This trip was really a very good experience.

If you are traveling from Aswan city to Elephantine Island by the Mövenpick ferry, it would take about 3 minutes. As it is situated in the middle of the river - travel time to and from the island is quick. The Mövenpick ferry runs on a timetable and is frequent; other ferries not so much.

I have lived in Aswan much of the past 2 years and this year on Elephantine Island. I live alone and travel all over without any fear. The people are very friendly and it does help to at least speak a little Arabic. I feel more safe here than in America!
1.從Aswan 到 Elephantine Island 若帶攜大行李箱坐渡輪方便嗎?(在Elephantine Island 住宿)
2.船班次會很多嗎? 我們預計2019年4月去.
thanks!

What was the original name of the Moevenpic Hotel on Elephantine Island - when we stayed we were told it had been built to house Russian contract workers but can't remember the original name.

I believe it was called tge ASWAN OBEROI HOTEL. The hotel nearby had the building work stopped for a few years due to a dispute between the owner/builders and the son of former president Mubarek.
