We were a group of 10 people who stayed at Freemans Safari Camp in Masai Mara for a 5 day safari in August 2024
It was fantastic! Up at 5am for a 6 am start, Milton was our Masai driver. He was awesome! And he proved one morning in front of us that he can do 30 pushups consecutively! We remain impressed even today! He knew exactly where to find the animals and birds, he was patient and knowlegeable about their behaviour and habits who was always considerate of our personal safety regarding the proximity of the animals.
The food was always very good, dinner was always a hearty 3 course affair. Everything Peter, the cook, made was delicious and plentiful. We loved the nightly ritual of reurning from a long day's game safari to sit nerar the fire pit and enjoy a drink or three and nibble on the little samosas passed around while recounting the amazing sights and experiences from the day's adventures.
Amigo, the waiter, was always very attentive and considerate in meeting your needs whether it was for a drink or food order or something more personal that you might need help with.
On some game safari days we were treated to the kitchen crew driving out at lunchtime and setting up a table with a freshly prepared feast under a shady acacia tree with chairs and serving delicious food and cool drinks out on the savannah . Very"Out of Africa"!It was a luxurious experience, and a very special and memorable one. Jacki was a delightful personality who was always very helpful and great to talk to. She was so considerate and helpful when I experienced a short lived period of ill health, during our stay Thank you so much Jacki for your kindness and assistance at this time.
Brian was a great source of local knowledge about the Masai Mara having lived there for 40 years. He is also a crack photographer. His photographs adorn the dining area of the lodge. They are truly impressive. In fact, I asked him if they were shot in a studio as the animals are so perfectkly captured looking directly at the camera in family groups often accompanied by their cubs. Incredible captures! And his photos of the wilderbeest migration are astonishing-
portraying the claustrophobic mass of thousands of anxious animals plunging through the river in a desperate urge to get to the other side knowing there were hidden dangers to navigate on their perilous journey.
I would not hesitate in highly recommending Freeman's Safari Camp for your next Masai Mara adventure. You will be rewarded with amazing experiences, friendly staff, great food and a lifetime of memories.

My partner and I had a wonderful time at Freeman Safaris in the Masai Mara region. The primary standout here was the staff. Everyone who works at the camp was incredibly generous - making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived to our final day. My partner was celebrating his birthday and they were so great about helping me create a little celebration for him. We felt so at home here, between the delicious home cooked meals that were served every evening to our debriefs with Brian and his staff every night sitting by a cozy fire. The accommodations are clean and all our basic needs were met, including daily laundry service. We also had a great guide (shout out to Milton!) who made sure we saw all the animals we hoped to and knew the geography of the region better than anyone. He navigated the rocky terrain like a pro and made sure to provide us with colorful facts about all the animals everywhere we went. Freeman is happy to have you stay out all day if you want and they were so great about packing us meals to go and making sure we maximized every minute we were there.
Last but not least, I like to run in the mornings and was concerned there wouldn’t be an adequate place to do so, being on the savannah and all and preferring eating breakfast over being breakfast. The staff offered to drive the car behind me while I ran for safety reasons and even joined me on a couple early morning runs! I will never forget that experience as long as I live. Asante, Freeman Safaris! You made our trip so very special and we can’t wait for our next adventure in the Masai Mara already.

Brian and his staff are specialized in photography safaris, they are hands down the best in the business. More, they will cater for your every need (splendid spacious accommodation, laundry service, delicious homemade cooking) to make sure you can focus 100% on your photography. The whole staff is extremely helpful and has impeccable manners. The drivers, in my case mighty Ruben, are well acquainted with demanding professional photographers and will make sure you come home with the best pictures. The warm welcome of the whole team makes you feel like part of the family. I'm just back from my 5 days trip and already making plans for next year's visit to the Mara with Brian.

Wow- if could give more than 5 starts I would- amazing, exceeding my expectations in so many ways. The staff are friendly and professional. The location is amazing just on the edge of the park so you are really close to the action- so much so that one morning as we were waiting for our escort to go for breakfast there was an elephant strolling through the camp.
Our driver had 36 years of experience and it showed- he was eagle eyed at spotting the animals and had a sixth sense for getting the vehicle in just the right spot for a great view/ photos. We got so much closer to the animals and saw way more than I was expecting to.
You may have noticed above that we needed an escort from our rooms to the main lodge- because of the proximity of the animals it wasn’t safe to walk alone in the dark- and yes we were having breakfast before dawn to give us the best chance to see the animals in action. Which we did- one morning finding a pride of lions with their kill at day break.
This is not a holiday where you will be lounging by the pool (there isn’t one) but you will get to picnic by the river in the shade and watch the hippos and Nile crocodiles. In the evening there are communal drinks around the fire followed by dinner sharing the day’s experiences. The food was very good. Brain Freeman and his crew are welcoming and so knowledgeable, and we were well looked after from the moment we got into Nairobi- Brain set up everything for us in advance, including a couple of days in Amboseli which was also really enjoyable, but Mara was a much more authentic and individual experience, and we saw more animals and got closer to them.
I can not recommend it highly enough. So many unforgettable moments.

I just spent 4 nights in this beautiful unfenced camp where everything is done to enjoy every aspect of nature, the tented and glass-wall rooms with view on a water hole, or the windows in the ceiling offering direct view on the stars illuminating the night sky. The camp was recommended to me by a friend and I have enjoyed every minute! Mr Freeman and Jacky warmly welcome guests personally each day, the chef is fantastic and all staff members extremely kind. I have been driving around in a Land Rover with Milton, a passionate young guide able to spot the best sightings, and to position the jeep in the best manner for both the sighting and the photos. The camp proposes for those who like it, to spend full days in the reserve, which is what I did...so we left every morning at 5h45, and were back around 18h. There was always tea, coffee, cake, breakfast and delicious lunches packed for us.
I will certainly go back to this camp in my future stay in the Masai Mara!

This was my second visit to the Mara, the first being 25 years ago. Freeman Safaris exceeded all my expectations. I had one of Brian's beloved Landrovers to myself for the week and my guide was a young Maasai called Jackson. He must have the sharpest eyes on the planet and an uncanny ability to place the vehicle in exactly the right place for the perfect shot. He also has an excellent knowledge of birds which I particularly appreciated.
The camp is very comfortable and my tent had ample facilities for charging batteries, phones, etc. At night I lay there listening to hippos, hyenas and the occasional zebra.
Brian is an excellent host and nothing is too much trouble for the attentive and friendly staff. The meals were excellent and very varied.
I would say this was the best week's photography I have ever had and wildlife experiences that I will never forget.
Thank you Brian and your wonderful team.

I have wanted to go on Safari for fifty years & first came across Brian's website around 10 years ago. This year circumstances meant I was finally able to go.
I was not dissapointed. After an overnight flight to Nairobl & a short flight to Masai Mara, I was met at the landing strip by Brian himself & Jackson, a young Guide.
On arriving at the camp I was greeted with a glass of cold refreshing fruit juice & given time to freshen up & drop my bags off at my accommodation before being whisked off in a Landrover with Jackson to begin my long awaited adventure.
Within 24 Hrs of stepping out of my front door I was bouncing around in a 4x4 seeing things I had only seen on TV or in pictures.
Jackson's passion for the wildlife & especially the numerous birds, was obvious & he was happy to point out various birds in a book that was well thumbed.
After returning to camp for lunch & a breif rest we were back out around 15.30 for more game viewing, returning only as the sun went down at around 18.30. After a quick shower, we enjoyed drinks around the fire & a tasty meal to round off a fantastic first day with the highlight being the sighting & photographing of a Leopard which I hadn't expected during the whole trip let alone on the first day.
The rest of the trip consisted of being out all day from 06.00am until 18.30 pm with breakfast & lunch being served from a picnic hamper so that we could cover a larger area & not have to cover the same ground twice.
Reuben was the guide for the the remainder of my stay & whereas Jackson was young & enthusiastic, Reuben was experieced, Knowlegeable (with 35 yrs guiding experience) & knew exactly where to place the vehicle for the best viewing & photographs. His driving was also exceptional, getting us around quickly but as smoothly as the road conditions would allow. If you wanted to see a particular animal he would try his very best to locate it either by talking to other passing guides or by using his extensive knowledge of the arrear.
There are many types of safari out there & I even went on an overland trip back through Mara, on to Serengetti & Ngorongoro immediately after my trip to Brian's place. All of these trips offer a different experience but if this is your first African Safari & you want the real feeling of being amongst the wildlife, then I would give brian a try before anybody else. Although they may be listed as photographic Safaris, you don't need to be a keen photographer to really enjoy the experience. On one morning we had a pride of Lionesses walk towards us & split as they approached & walked past us. So close that I was unable to fit them in the viewfinder anyway & was just left to stare in awe at the beautiful animal as she looked me in the eye & silently moved on. Then there was the group of Elephants as they made their way across the river after the other vehicles had got impatient & were keen to get back "on schedule".
On this Safari you can decide to let the guide take you to all the best sightings & you will be more than happy. Or you could take a more assertive roll & tell him what you want to see. Try doing that when you are in a truck with 15 other people.
Whatever you choose I assure you that you will not be be dissapointed.

Just got back from a 6 day safari adventure with Freeman Safaris; and there is only one word to describe the experience: AMAZING! We loved every minute of it, the comfortable and authentic tents at the camp, the great food chef would cook, the time around the camp fire sharing the day’s highlights, the breakfast and lunch picnics right there in the Mara, and of course getting real close to the animals.
We enjoy photography so it was awesome to go out with experienced guides that knew where to find the animals and would get us as close as possible without disturbing the animals. We took soooo many pictures, and had a real blast. The photo safari was quite a different adventure for us, and such an engaging one that we will surely repeat in the future. And of course, would not pick any other place than Freeman Safaris! #HighlyRecommended
Looking forward to coming back to the Mara to see the migration in 2024!

If you’re reading this as one of Freeman Safaris’ return visitors then you’ll already know why this is another 5-star review. If, like I was, you are deciding whether or not to go then here is the short version of my review: JFDI. You won’t regret it. Now for the longer version. What FS is not, is the sugar-coated nicely-packaged tourist safari where you are chauffeured around in luxury Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs on two drives per day, ticking off the big five one by one. Nothing wrong with this if that’s your bag but it isn’t what FS offers. Instead, what you are given is the opportunity to explore the Maasai Mara at your own pace in the company of an expert guide (in my case Milton, who not only had eyes like a hawk but could drive through some of the worse conditions I have experienced anywhere). Conservatively I reckon I saw (and photographed) over 40 different mammals, reptiles, and insects and over 50 species of birds, most of which I’d have missed without my guide. And I was put in a prime position to capture a spectacular wildebeest migration across the Mara. You will also get very comfortable accommodation, superb cooking, spot-on organisation, Land Rovers adapted for photography, and Brian Freeman and his staff who make you feel so welcome and are genuinely interested in your day. The evening beer by the open fire is a great way to unwind and share experiences. I can’t recommend FS highly enough. And weather? Bring a raincoat.

I spent 16 fabulous days, hosted by Brian and supported by his fabulous team at the campsite. As a very enthusiastic photographer, I was keen to get out into the Mara as early as I could hence the day starting at 530am and finishing at 730pm (by choice). The lodge team of Peter the chef and Duncan (the greatest guy ever) ensured that our daily snacks, lunches and treats were ready for the days adventures. The jewel in the crown was my driver and guide Milton. A young Masai man with extensive knowledge of the Mara area and who possessed a knack for locating animals in the far corners of the region. The man is a genius! After a day out the return to the lodge was like coming home. A cold beer, a welcoming fire to sit around to share the days highlights followed by a hearty meal. The tents were very comfortable and well looked after by the camp team headed by the lovely Jacki.
As a solo traveller I have nothing but praise and a very big smile when I think of my time with Brian and his team. Asante sana to you all. A fabulous adventure indeed :)

Jambo Rafiki,
We sure had a ball with you around, and I do reminisce about the moments around the campfire sharing a Tusker! The Mara is surely the jewel of African Wildlife, and we are grateful you chose us to show you this paradise, and we did not disappoint. We look forward to many more safaris.
Cheers!

What is the best time to visit Masai Mara and watch the immigration of the Animals? And can we see many wild cats attacking them ? Also how do u have ur own website and instagram to learn more about ur services?
Skrevet 5. desember 2017
The Mara has so much to offer almost at any time. The migration comes in phases over many months and at different parts of the Mara. I was at the end of August based at Brian Freeman's and saw a number of hunts and some kills. I shut my eyes at the hyena kill!! It is not pleasant!! The excitement and pleasure of seeing wildlife is being patient, hunting with yours eyes and anticipating what you might see. Brian has a great base with excellent staff and wildlife surrounding the camp. I love it!! If you go,
I hope that you have a fantastic time and don't go with the expectation of seeing many kills. Just enjoy it. For specific questions about the camp go to the Contact Information on his website Freeman safaris. Google to get website links.
