We went there with young kids. The name of the resort would fool one into believing that it is going to be welcoming to foreigners. There is not a single English-speaking officer behind the counter and no signs are in English.
The instructors ONLY speak chinese so that was not helpful for my daughter. We were fortunate to have travelled with Chinese-speaking friends whose children helped translate the instructions for my daughter. The instructors even told my daughter to learn some Chinese! Ironic given that they are the ones providing instruction in an International ski resort.
Bring your own supply of hot water cos the restaurant is not willing to sell hot water even for me to make formula for my baby.

Only about 1 hr 15 min away from Beijing (longer if you hit serious traffic getting out of or into the city) this ski resort has several green and blue runs and a single black diamond run. They are well staff with instructors and equipment - it's almost like a production line. After you check-in and get an access card at the main gate, you basically have free run of the place. At the bottom of the slope, enter a hall at one end and pick up any kind of ski clothing you require + boots + skies/poles + helmet and off you go. Lockers are plentiful as well. Many people leave their shoes on top of the lockers instead of renting one (that's what we did). There is a nice coffee shop at the top of the "B" Chairlift, which was a nice surprise. A basic hot chocolate was 18 RMB and the views were very good. Beijing weather has been much better over the past year with less pollution and a lot of clear skies. With the great wall on 3 sides, the view is fun and you can let you imagination wander for a bit before getting back on the slopes.
We had an instructor: Ms. Han for my 7 year old boy. That worked out well.
We also did night skiing (5 PM till about 9 PM) and it was much less crowded (this was on a weekday just before Chinese New Year). Enough people not to feel empty, but wide open runs. However, they shut some of the lifts at night so the selection is more limited.
We stayed overnight in one of their cabins. Other than a bit of confusion about how to check-in which resulted in a bit of bouncing around until we figured out the right person to talk to, the cabin room was warm, the bathroom was clean and serviceable (very hot water!) and met all our needs. I think the cabins are under-rated -- although it's not a long drive, being able to sleep on site and ski again the next morning made this a much less hectic trip.
Critiques:
1) It would have been nice if my son could join a small group class, rather than always one-one-one instruction. Not sure if this was an option (unless you form your own group).
2) the first night the restaurant inside the gates said they'd be open till 8:30 PM, but when we got back there at around 8:15 or 8:20 they had long since shut down. We were able to eat at a restaurant (the only restaurant!) just outside the resort gates, which was a very local spot with limited menu - but we filled ourselves up just the same. But there was a bit of confusion asking various people where we could find food. Bottom line: a bit more "visibility" as to where to eat if staying at the resort would be helpful (or even possibility of delivery to the room -- which might have been possible (we didn't ask).
3) I speak passible Chinese so i got by okay. However, if they could add a sprinkling of English signs at the resort it would make this place much more accessible to the foreign community in Beijing or tourists.
4) the chair lifts were great, but the "belts" (like baggage belts, but you slide onto them using your skies and ride up the hill) are kind of slow and on the lower hills stop reasonably frequently because someone slipped while getting on (inexperienced or unlucky types). This could be improved by A) tending the entry area better so its not so icy, easy to push your way along, and B) speeding up the belts for the higher slope which is a blue run and has only intermediate or better skiers on it.
All in all, a good experience and now that we know our way around, its likely we'll make this a more regular visit during future winters, especially while our young ones are learning to ski.

The best feature of this place is that its 1-hour drive from the city and a didi can take you there for 200kuai.
We arrived at 8am sharp (opening time) and got around very easily with help from english speaking staff- they were very attentive and helped us with everything;
The slopes (2 grees - 3 blues- 1black) were pretty decent. From 8-10 it was nice and almost empty, it got a bit crowded around noon but it wasnt as bad as we expected.
We had a great time and even had lunch before leaving and it surprisingly good (dumplings and some spicy noodles)
Price was suprisngly cheap - Around 300~ kuai for the entrance+ski rentail (clothes and equipment)
Overall was a great experience, if you live in Beijing you have to try it out while its winter.

I wouldn't recommend going if you haven't lived in China or cant speak some Chinese. Staff are great and help as much as they can but language is limited. Also getting there is not straightforward. My family and I had a great time and the view is magnificent, moreover it is a great place for people to learn. But like most things in China, have some patience, don't expect things to go smooth, have backup plans and you will have a great day. We went by bus, the 936 wasnt in operation, so we caught the 916 to Huairou. Which was Quite fast. Once we arrived in Huairou, we caught a taxi to the resort. About 55 kuai. This was efficient and stress free. Also get a metro card. Great for the subway and bus. We used Didi to get a taxi to the resort, on the way back to Huairou bus station we just bargained with a driver who had a 7 seater car to take us to Huairou bus station. 60 kuai, which was half the price of a didi van, first time I have used a black taxi, I dont recommend this but didnt want to wait for the shuttle or the 936 that people wrote about in other reviews. Getting the bus from the depot was great, whole family could stretch out on the back seat and sleep on the way back to Dongzhimen. DONT TAKE SKI EQUIPMENT with you, just hire. The runs aren't worth it and the extra hassle is a pain, unless your chartering a driver from Beijing. However that defeats the purpose of the cheapest but fun skiing you'll ever do. It will cost you more for a driver both ways as to hire equipment and lift passes. When you get there go to the building on the left before the entry gates. You pay a deposit, I paid 1300Kuai and they give you a card for hire and 3 lift passes. One for me and my two boys, my wife and daughter didnt ski they were happy to sit and watch the views from the cafe. You then get the equipment you need etc. At the end of the day, return your equipment and they give you the refund. I was Given back 720 kuai. that included locker hire, 3 snowboards and helmets, we had our own clothes, I was told that Tuesday is the cheapest day to ski. I have skiied in a lot of places and never experienced such great value, However definitely not the most exciting place to ski, but the view of the Great Wall was amazing. A unique experience and a great day, but we have lived in China for a year and can speak some Chinese. It wasnt crowded but it was a weekday, this small venue couldn't take large crowds, so be careful if you intend to go on a weekend or public holiday.

Enjoyed half a day skiing with fresh air and view to the Great Wall.
Bring your own food unless you like Chinese basic food.
As experienced skier it was a little bit boring but the kids could still be challenged. Some hills are blue and a bit red on a European scale and a lot of Chinese beginners on the green slopes :-)
Overall a good experience which can be recommended. We stayed on Kempinski sunrise hotel 15 minutes away.

Beautiful ski resort. Though it's artificial snow, we had a great time skiing. Weekday charge is cheaper starting from yuan 38 on Mon.
We did not manage to book the chalets online but came to the counter to book it. Many rooms available on weekdays. Beautiful chalets.
We took bus 936 from Dongzhimen as suggested by another traveller on another review. Took around 2 to 2.5 hours. Comfortable bus ride. The bus actually past by the subway at China international exhibition center, not sure if it may be faster to catch the bus from there.

We went there during the Chinese New Year. My 2 friends and I decided to get a coach to teach us since we were newbies. There were 2 coaches who approached us. We were telling that we will only get 1 coach because we were only 3 but they were insisting that we should get the 2 of them for "safety reasons" because they were a lot of people skiing, one coach will teach my friend and the other will teach me and my other friend. And since we don't have the luxury of time to argue anymore, we agreed but we told them for only an hour and the next hour we will be skiing to ourselves. They were again insisting that it will be better if they coach us for 2 hours but I said no. Only for an hour. So much for being so desperate to suck out money from people. They taught us for about 45 minutes and told us the time is over. Little they did know I had been keeping track of time. But I thought without them bugging us and we get to ski freely was better and so I just let them go. But in all fairness, I learned the basics from them. We could have just spent around 60 RMB only for our 2-hour ski but ended up paying less than 200 RMB because of those coaches. Lesson learned though: You can always say no and you have to stick with it! Still, we were happy to have tried skiing for the 1st time. Also I personally think that overall Nanshan Ski Village is better than Huaibei. You be the judge!

This is a lovely and well run ski resort close to Beijing. You can catch public transport here from Beijing or from Huairou (where I stayed at the 7 Days Inn see separate review). Bus number is 936 and you get off at the second last stop. ASk the conductor and have a picture of the ski resort to help if you don't speak any Chinese. For there it is a short walk and you have to cross over a major road so take care. You may be offered a lift, they will overcharge you if you accept.
As mentioned in other reviews you can ski with views of the Great Wall of China which was exactly what I wanted. The terrain park is OK but a bit limited (only advanced skiers and boarders would want to attempt the jumps). There were no black (difficult runs open) but a good range of green (beginner) and easy blue runs. There are good food options but you can always take a picnic and get free hot water there for your noodle bowl. The equipment was reasonable but not great. You have to get a ski pass and an equipment rental card as well (plus pay a cash deposit of about 200RMB) then you take the card to get all your equipment and when you return your equipment they will swipe your card again so you can get your deposit back. There are lockers (also known as boxes) where you can leave your picnic, shoes and extra stuff whilst you ski. I had a ball and I hope you do to.

I was here the 3rd week of December, It was not full open. There are only 3 tracks running, 2 beginners and 1 intermediate. We ski for half day and is only 78rmb (incl pole ,ski n boots n lift). Apart from 200rmb deposit, locker is charge 20rmb per unit.
I charted a van to this place, easier for my family. Please check for the best price.
Overall it's fun to ski along the Great Wall. My kids (8 and 12) have a great time here.

Thank you for your very detailed explanation of Huaibei Ski Resort! My daughters (10 & 11 years old) have attended a Mandarin school and they ski quite well so I am going to give this a try between December 6th - 12th next month. Please advise if this is too soon for this year’s snow making opportunity. I thought it would be nice to spend one night at the resort but I can’t figure out how to use the web site listed for the resort. Do you have any advice for a mom with two kids in Beijing in the winter? We are there 144 hours with no visa to go far.
Skrevet 5. november 2019
Yes, Huaibei has quite a few cabins along the side of the slopes. Each cabin has a common "living room" with a couch and a TV and two bedrooms off the living room with bathrooms. There are also one or two bedrooms upstairs. Rooms are heated of course, the bathroom is serviceable and clean with showers. You can reserve a room or a whole cabin by phone or just though the resort admin desk. My impression is that most people drive in / drive out, and few stay overnight, so there is generally good availability. My son and I stayed there. Only one thing: the restaurant on-site closes just after dinner and has basic Chinese dishes (all tasty enough after a good day of skiing, but not fine fare). There is one place just outside the gate that stays open later. No room service.

Around April the ski resort shuts down and converts to a summer park. I think in May it would be open for summer activities. Fishing, camping, and some other activities.

Hi!
We are thinking of having a family day out of Beijing here. Do you know whether it is possible to rent jackets and salopettes/pants at the resort? There are 6 of us and I don't really want to go out and buy all the kit for 1 day!!
Thanks!

Hi - I read your review on Huaibei Ski Resort. Thank you it is helpful. Would you know of any English speaking operator and ski instructor at the resort who can assist with arrangements? Mei Li
