Access to the cave is well done and the first part is quite easy.

Later there are 20 floors down which is quite a hike.

The structures are beautiful and well lit.

I would highly recommend paying a bit extra for a private tour.

We had an enjoyable time there and was quite impressed.

This is well worth the time to visit.

As the title suggests, this cave is full of stunning rock formations that formed naturally in the Fangshan region. The stalactites and stalagmites within this cave are awe-inspiring and jaw dropping. The complexity of the formations is simply stunning. This is one of 11 archeological/ geological/ scientific wonders in the area and makes up a UNESCO recognized geopark. I would recommend doing more than one in a day, as this site only took about 2 hours to complete. It is a guided tour, fully guided in Mandarin (unless you book through a tor agency, which I did not). The structures are lit up by coloured lights on timers, making it a bit over commercialized and keeping people from straggling too far beyond. You have the opportunity to view the first four floors but don’t get to see the underground river still flowing in the area. Also, taking public transit in the area is super challenging and time consuming—the people speak pretty much no English in this region because it is more rural, and my mandarin is still very rudimentary. It was easy to get lost and what should have taken 6 hours round trip, took closer to 11 hours for me. All things considered though, I’m glad I made the trip!

We went there by car, it's about 1 hour from west Beijing to get. We had to take a mini electric car to get from the parking lot to the entrance of the site. It costs RMB10 per person. The entrance ticket is RMB70 per person and children go free (Oct 2017).
It's my first time to go to a cave this big. It is so beautiful and magnificent inside. I am grateful that the signs inside even had English on them, worth for it being listed as a UNESCO world heritage!

Make sure you wear a sturdy pair of shoes and some sweater. It is wet, damp, chilly and quite slippery inside. There are numerous stairs to go in and out the cave. Water still drips from above and some stones are soaking wet from the river water that is still flowing 7 floors below the ground.

Shi hua cave was one of the most amazing cave that i ever visited. This cave really present ls some good view. This is really beautiful, and this cave have a hall ... this hall really amazing, unfortunately you have to be quick since the light inside the cave were put on timers. To keep the temperature, this cave temperature maintain the same whole year never too hot or too cold around 16 degree... i like to be here... if i have a chance i will going back here. Take a private tour rather than using public transport, use some experience driver.

The caves are about 60km from ZhongGuanCun and it costed me RMB 93 on Uber to get here. Taxi would have costed over RMB 200. Do ask and pay the driver to stay to take you back because the only way back is via bus.

I have visited many caves and these caves are beautiful. What will always stay in mind about this one is how beautiful the stone flowers were. They were formed when water dropped and slashed. Exquisite is the only word to describe the special one used in all the propaganda.

The free photos were a bit of a a tourist trap but they did come out very nicely so we bought some of them. There was a janitor who walked up and down tirelessly picking up trash. We walked with him and he was very kind in pointing out all the interesting stuff to see.

The "Den of Theives" is what I would described the people surrounding this site, The road to the caves is blocked except to local traffic. My driver was not allowed to even drop me off. One can walk or take one of the shuttles. The driver agreed with me the price for round trip. When we were almost at the top, he mentioned it would cost more to come down. I told him he had taken me for a ride literally, but I would tell the world about this trick. Apparently, this is done all the time. When I complained to the ticket office, it was obvious that they heard it before many times. They kept denying it had nothing to do them.

The second incident that got me even madder concerned shopping. We bought two things. I paid the lady and she gave the goods to my daughter. We realized later that she had only put one thing in the bag. It wa a deliberate act and not a "forgetful" act. I could feel the "cheat the tourist" goal in the air.

So, my advice is this: come and see the caves. Don't try and do business with anyone else outside. I threw out a bottle water I bought there because I didn't trust it being authentic.
