This museum is the same as the Military Museum of Chinese People's Revolution in Beijing. This is a must visit for all history lovers. You will find war trophies that the Chinese captured during the conflicts with the west like the T-62 captured during the Sino-Soviet Border Conflict in 1969 and the Korean War airplanes between 1950 to 1953. I will strongly recommend spending more time on level 1 and basement 1. Reason is cause the higher levels feature modern technology, paintings and small equipment like guns. The modern technology tanks and unmanned aircraft are mostly cheap looking plastic replicas as they are top secret equipments. So this museum is mostly for the love of history. The museum is also highly convenient as it is located next to the Military Museum Station.

First and foremost, adults will need a passport to enter and admission for kids are gratis. There are only two floors to see, one of which is underground. The third floor is closed as of the date of this review. The museum is very spacious and very bright, but it will take around 1-2 hours to see everything for yourself. There is a multitude of cannons, planes, rockets and tanks, which are domestically produced weaponry from China, American weaponry garnered from the Korean war, and Soviet weaponry. Most of the Soviet weaponry and Chinese weaponry are in good shape, but the American weapons from the Korean war are usually in very bad condition (the giant U2 scout plane shot down by the Chinese in the 1960s on exhibit on the underground floor is slowly decomposing). There is a noticeable paucity of Chinese-made aircraft, and a lot of the Soviet tanks were propagated to create Chinese tanks. The faculty are pretty helpful and overall the trip will be great if you are willing to walk around a lot.

Twice in different years I tried to see this museum, and it was always partially closed for one reason or another. You can only see bored planes, tanks and a lot of propaganda.

Easy to find either by taxi or train, with station right at the entrance.
If you are a military buff, this is the place for you.
I would have rated 5 stars except they didn’t have the second floor open, for unknown reasons which was a pity.
Plenty of very interesting military equipment, sadly not any English to read about them except a title.
Guns, planes, mortars tanks boats missiles everything including the U2 spy plane shot downIn the 1950s
No one speaks English here.
Free entry with passport.
Very interesting wall murals with English as you enter which are worth reading.
If the organizers are reading this, please put the descriptions in English!

I visited this museum with two Chinese hosts who were able to explain the notices to me. The building was enormous but only part of the ground and lower ground floors were open. Entrance is free but I needed to hand my passport over to get a ticket.

The ground floor showed aircraft and missiles from the 1940s to 1970s. There were also two boats. The lower ground floor contained lots of medium and large calibre guns and tanks from a similar period and earlier. Small calibre weapons were on one of the higher floors which was not open. Many guns were Chinese or were captured in World War 2 or the Korean or Vietnam wars (i.e. the guns were mainly Japanese or USA)

Of particular interest was a U2 spy plane which had been shot down, one of 5.

This museum was well worth a visit but would have been better with notices in English as well as Chinese.

離西客站很近,地鐵軍事博物館站出來就是,旁邊據說就是軍委大樓,在市區地方有限,大型武器很少,軍事愛好者還是值得一去。

This is a free museum, but like most museums in China, bring your passport to show the ticket booth people. They will then hand over a free entry ticket.

The building is huge and was only recently reopened after a major refurbishment. It’s worth a visit in my book, but to be fair to the reviewers who did not like it, you do need to want to look at military hardware and history. Then again the name of museum is a wee hint of what’s inside.

Yes the signs are mostly in Chinese. But the exhibits are all named in English. Just not the backstory.

Top tip. Don’t miss the chance to understand New China’s revolutionary past. It’s all there but also easy to miss as the large exhibits of planes and tanks rather dominate the eye. But for those interested note the present worker army statutes at the front left of the main entrance. Then the reliefs of new China’s struggle that surround the Mao Zedong statue at the entrance way.

Currently two floors of four are open (May 2018). The third floor rifle and handgun display area looks complete but is not yet open. First floor is mainly planes. It’s impressive. Basement floor is mainly field guns and tanks.

Myself and my partner came to the museum to escape the cold in December, however it was a great find. Be sure to bring your passport, however unlike other attractions although the museum is massive, it was fairly quiet. Outside you were able to look at tanks / planes and even boats, with inside showing more of the same with great paintings and even a couple of missile’s. Worth a visit for a couple of hours.
