Even it became ruins the exquisitely and deliberately designed garden shows the unbelievable beauty and scale of that ancient time. Actually my highlight of my short visit in Beijing.

Also another great experience, I got to see the Yuanmingyuan ruins for myself, which was honestly a spectacular sight. Sadly, most of the ruins were destroyed by the English. However, I learnt lots of history, making it another memorable experience!

Immense park that deserves to be visited. It is definitely one of the top attractions in Beijing, and the most fascinating park in the city. In 3 hours you should be able to see most of the park.

I went there last year. If you are interested in history then it's a perfect place to visit. There are lots of things to see. They also provide audio guide. Metro station is just close to this place. I liked Old summer palace.

The old Summer Palace (Beijing) trip was amazing. The place is friendly for all ages, with the availability of necessary services such as toilets, restaurants, shops, and amazing garden spots. Different transportation such as buses, boats, and shared bicycles was a good call since the place is huge.
The historical ruins were the highlights of my visit as I am obsessed with history. It was amazing witnessing what was like in the old centuries.

If you enjoy walks and pretty gardens, then this is a good place to visit.
The grounds are huge and it will take at least 3 hours to do it justice. We came in winter and there were very few visitors as most would opt not to be in the outdoors.
One of the highlights was the fact that the lake was frozen and it gives off a different kind of charm.
To get to the site of the ruins, it is a 2.5 km walk from the entrance to the site.

This is a beautiful park and a stunning location. We really enjoyed walking round just as Winter begins to take hold. The park is full of lakes and beautiful bridges and from some points you can see the mountains in the distance. A really lovely walk. The park is huge and we only managed a 3rd of it today. The ruins are interesting if you like that sort of thing.

Take line 4 to Yuanmingyuan Park Station, follow the signs to the entrance of the parks.
10RMB to get in, then another 15RMB to get into the area with the European style ruins.
This is a HUGE place wear good shoes, bring water and be prepared to put some serious millage on your legs before you leave. We were there for a couple of hours and barely saw a third of the place.
Sadly, we made the mistake of going there over the October holidays…. literally tens of thousands of people, everywhere.
The parks and lakes are very beautiful, they were restored years ago and like all parks in China are outstanding to walk around.
The European style ruins are about 1km straight north form the South entrance, as I said, you’ll need to pay an extra 15RMB to get into that area.
The ruins are just that, ruins. In their heyday, they were likely beautiful places.
Sadly, the whole complex was destroyed by the Brits and French, then raided for building material by locals for many years, tragedy to be honest.
It’s an scab that the Chinese keep picking, never to let their hatred of the West heal.

Usually it's a no if you wanna thoroughly cover a place especially in China. This applies to everywhere in China cause the place is so huge and requires a lot of walk. By the time tmyou end one of the attraction you could be tired. But again it's a possibly yes if you just wanna visit the main spots in the attractions and drop things like the huge lake and ponds walks.
