Beautiful scenery. Relatively easy with some incline. I entered via the side of the Park View Residence. You can do the entire walk but we did only half way.

This is the largest and southern most of the four reservoirs found in the Tai Tam Valley and Country Park on Hong Kong Island. You can visit by way of a casual and easy hike through the valley known as the Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail. It is the first body of water if starting the trail at the south entrance and the last if starting from the northern entrance past the Wong Nai Reservoir and Parkview residential towers.

The reservoir was constructed between 1912-17 and is a beautiful body of water, very photogenic on days with good sky conditions. You can also see several of the Declared Monument waterworks structures including several masonry bridges. These are delightful and make for nice sightseeing add-ons. There are also a few BBQ spots along side the Tai Tam Tuk reservoirs for those potentially interested in having a light picnic. Toilets, water refill station and drink machines are located at the south entrance as well.

Absolutely brilliant after heavy rainfall to see the dam in full swing. Would come back here again! Perfect day.

To get here take MTR to Sai wan Ho, exit A . Take Bus 14 and get off at Tai Tam Reservoir North 大潭水塘北. From the bus stop to get to the dam there are some steps but really easy to get to. Worth a visit.

You do not need to take the same route to get out. Head towards Tai Tam Tuk Village and check out the place. It's very peaceful.

Constructed between 1912-17, Tai Tam Tuk is the largest of the Tai Tam reservoirs. It was part of a massive programme of dam building between 1888-1917 that was prompted by a dire shortage of clean, fresh water. Right from the start of British settlement, fresh water was a problem and as the population grew, the old tank streams and wells became increasingly unreliable. As well as being inadequate, they were frequently unhygienic.
Today the dam is still an impressive structure, holding a scary volume of water. Twelve large spillways handle water overflow. Other features include the ornamental parapets, an historic valve house and an arched bridge running over the dam, linking Stanley and Chai Wan. On a beautiful day, the sky and clouds are reflected in the expanse of water and flocks of birds skim across the dam’s surface.
Set deep in the valleys of the Tai Tam Country Park, it can be accessed via the Heritage Waterworks Trail, a very scenic 5 km hiking trail, that takes you through the country park, past all 4 reservoirs. The paths are mostly paved and it’s well sign-posted. Along the way, there are detailed information boards describing the history of the reservoirs and providing information about other historic structures, like the aqueducts, old stone bridges, valve houses, pumping stations and workmen’s quarters.
Entry to the country park is free. Take water and sunscreen or hat because you can’t buy anything there. A good starting point for the heritage trail is at the country park entry gates on Tai Tam Tuk Rd, just past the Parkview residential complex.

This is the largest of the 4 Tai Tam Reservoirs in the Tai Tam Country Park on Hong Kong Island. It was constructed between 1912-17 and is the furthest south in the valley. This teal green lake offers attractive hiking grounds and forms part of the interesting Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail, which takes in 22 Declared Monuments around the four reservoirs, a handful of which are found here at Tai Tam Tuk.

The masonry dam of Tai Tam Tuk on the the east end of the lake is impressive, you will also find the historic valve house there that is nice to see. A handful of other monument buildings found around the lake to the east. You'll be able to find these by reading up on the information and map stations found along the trail as it passes by the lake. Most interesting however is the beautiful masonry bridge located on the southwest side of Tai Tam Tuk. It is the most easy to view of the four historic bridges found on the Heritage Trail and really beautiful to photograph from both ends.
