Sham Shu Po foodie tour was fantastic. I thought I knew ‘the po’ as a resident who adores zipping in to check out fabric, beads, and all things crafty. Wow, was I wrong. There was so much good food that I was walking by! Looking forward to my next Hong Kong Foodie Tour (Tai Po, here I come :).

🔴原味梳乎厘班戟🥞 ～ 口感鬆軟綿密， 入口有濃濃的蛋香， 配上清香的楓糖漿， 更加滋味。

Despite living in Hong Kong for many years, there were still plenty of things we discovered today thanks to our brilliant guide Ed. Almost 4 hours walking around Central and Sheung Wan, discovering little gems, listening to historic secrets and tasting Chinese specialties.

This was such a fun day! Lillian was an excellent tour guide, it was just the two of us and she was delightful company and brought me to lots of places I would never have found myself, as well as explaining their history and cultural significance. Between dishes there was plenty of history and fun facts about the different neighbourhoods we passed through. It was a great insight to Hong Kong food and culture, even for those who think they know it all!

Enjoyed this tour of our local area during COVID restrictions and almost no tourism in HK. Yammy our guide, had taken a second job with the lack of tourists - but both of us and Yammy herself enjoyed running the tour for my husband and me. All of the locals called out as we walked along - through each market stall! Terrific opportunity to see our local area (as expats) - wandering and seeing inside kitchens of places we hadn't dared to visit ! We now have many new places to eat at !! Thanks Yammy !!!

What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon with the family. Having lived in HK for a year we had tried some of these foods before but never knew why or how they fit into the local culture. It was a well thought through tour supporting local traders how produce quality food with age old traditions. A great way to engage our children in a food adventure where they could explore little side streets, cavernous food markets, taste the good stuff and hear about how food connects with the history and culture of Hong Kong.
Definitely worth doing if you are staying put this Summer!

This is a gem not only for visitors but also for expats living in Hong Kong. We took the whole family with friends and kids aged 8-12years and it was an amazing experience! A wonderful balance between great local food you’d never find by yourself and history or local anecdotes that just made everything so real and special. I look forward to trying out another route soon...

Our guide Carrie met us at the entrance to a subway in the Sham Shui Po area and took us on a very interesting and quite delicious food tour. She knows the area well and obviously enjoys sharing her knowledge. We had straight from the oven pineapple bun (it melts in your mouth), then long white rice rolls with a variety of seasonings (like white rolled up pasta but better), then freshly made tofu pudding. I normally don't eat tofu but this was like a thin yougert in ginger juice and tasty. We then tried two different dumplings - pork/cabbage and pork/watercress both of which were good most likely due to the presence of lard in the meat mixture. We got to go to the back of the Eight Angels bakery to meet the owner and try several crunchy cookies - yum! The last stop was the only bust in my opinion but a must for locals who enjoy fish soup with shrimp roe - way too fishy for my tastes. During the entire tour we were wandering in and out of different markets selling all manner of interesting items. Do not miss this tour!

My husband and I were so pleased to be able to find a food tour that was still going ahead whilst much of Hong Kong life was significantly curtailed because of Coronavirus precautions.
Our guide Yammy was charming and well informed and guided us round the Sham Shui Po district of Hong Kong, far removed from the glitzy skyscrapers and malls of that typify Hong Kong's wealthier areas.
We ate in cafés frequented by ordinary Hong Kong people and had a real insight into how people shop and eat during their daily lives.
Safely back home now and have been inspired to find a recipe for Pineapple Buns (so delicious!) that I'll be making for tomorrow's breakfast.

What exactly is included? Is food provided or do we purchase our own? Can you provide the current price for the tour in HKD? Not sure what the price I’m being shown is displayed in. How much advance notice do you need to book? Thank you!!

Hey Chris, so the food is all included in the price. Also, if you scroll to the bottom of tripadvisor it usually shows which currency is being displayed in. I know that's a problem I've had before. No idea about advance booking though. I'd really suggest this tour though, I had an amazing time on it.

There was actually a person who was vegetarian on the tour I did. I think she indicated this when booking online as there was a vegetarian option for her at three of the places (the samples at the other places were fruit or dessert based so it wasn't a problem). I believe she confirmed that she was vegetarian at the start of the tour, so the guide could make sure she was catered for.

Hi, contact the tour group, sham shu po tour is on the flat, but slightly crowded as there are the markets there. Some of the places might be a bit cramped but could be doable. The tour staff are very helpful so contact them direct

Thank you for your question about bringing kids on our Foodie Tours. Hong Kong Foodie has brought many families with kids that age on all three of our Foodie Tours and they genuinely enjoy them. Some of the most challenging questions our Foodie Guides get are often those from children. The children also love to tell us stories of their other travel experiences and they want to share this experience with their friends in school.
We suggest parents to make their own judgement on whether their kids enjoy food or not. If they love to eat, love to hear stories and interact with strangers, they will enjoy the tour as they will participate and ask challenging questions like an adult. Some younger children aged 4 or 5 may find the walk too long. Many parents also think this is a great opportunity for children to meet locals and learn a new culture. Hong Kong Foodie only offers the 1:45 pm tour on certain days. The itinerary for the two departure times is the same. Please check our calendar on our website to see if the 1:45 pm tour is available on the day you wish to take the tour.

Hey there! The meeting point is easy to get to. We stayed near our hotel and it took about 20 minutes. 20 minutes well worth the trip.
