As a part of our walking tour, PMQ is like an art center where you can explore the emerging artists in Hong Kong. It is also the old residential house of the police family in Hong Kong. There’s a lot of history behind the establishment. They had this underground museum that features these old remnants that they still kept all throughout the years.
What I did like was the Tamiya store with a cafe where you can stay and play with the Tamiya itself. They even have this free gift for tourists. Just don’t forget to bring or show them the copy of your passport to the reception.

Nothing but good things to say about this place. Such a great revitalization of an old and historic building for the area. Love all of the unique boutique shops!! Absolutely loved the Sake workshop and really wanted to do a workshop at one of the painting places, or yoga!

The former Police Married Quarter (PMQ) in Central was restored and repurposed as a creative and design focused shopping venue in Central back in 2014. You won't find the typical luxury and international brand name shops here However. This is a social project whereby affordable space has been set aside for local entrepreneurs, seeking to showcase and grow their businesses as art courses, galleries, lifestyle and consumable products, clothing, fashion, jewellery and all manner of creative shops. There are a couple of casual eateries and coffee shops as well.
In short, if you want to see local Hong Kong brands, there are around 100 small shops that line the floors at PMQ. There are also large scale seasonal decorations along with occasional exhibitions and events that have made for interesting experiences and reasons to visit PMQ over the years. You'll find PMQ along Aberdeen Street in Central. Shops have respective opening hours but are generally open from late morning until evening each day. The venue can be a bit crowded during midday weekends and public holidays but is usually far less crowded than our higher end malls.

I used Klook to get the Tourist Coupon Booklet as, through them, you also get a free luggage tag. The Klook offer meant that I had to collect on a specific day but, as I had to travel from New Territories to HK Island, it wasn't going to be spur of the moment anyway. The Klook offer said it expires on 31st August whereas the PMQ site said the offer expires on 31st Dec 2022.
I have a number of significant complaints:
- THE COUPONS ALL EXPIRED ON 31st MARCH 2022 SO NONE WERE VALID. Note the offer goes to 31st Dec.
- The person in the information kiosk still gave me the booklet of coupons! Why is it still being handed out?
- The booklet is really badly produced. In particular the T&C for each offer are in the smallest font they could find - I had to use my phone camera to blow up the text so I could read it (and find none are valid),
- There is no description of what each outlet sells, just the shop name and the offered discount. For example there is a shop called Soil - how would I know what they sell? In fact they sell designer ceramics and textiles and are very good but...
There are some really interesting shops in PMQ, completely different from what you can find elsewhere in HK. But it's completely let down by shambolic marketing. Tai Kwun nearby shows how it should be done.
As it is, this was a TOTAL WASTE OF MY TIME.
It takes a special level of incompetence to pull this off. Well done

Amazing hub of local artist talent making everything imaginable - fashion, art, you name it. We did a felting workshop with Chin of Yeung Chin designs, shop H406, which was wonderful. Great value and fun to get so close to his creativity. I will now make this a regular pop in for presents with meaning.

I recently went shopping at PMQ again in search of a mah-jong themed present for a friend. This is a great place to find unusual or fun gifts as there are a lot of local labels and brands selling unique and distinctive goods. There are also a number of designers and artisans selling their own jewellery, clothing and artwork.
Due to the pandemic, it was a lot quieter than usual and a number of shops seemed to be shut but there were still enough open.
For mah-jong players, I can recommend Glocal Mahjong. It is a fun shop that sells everything from mah-jong sets to mah-jong socks, soaps, tote bags and key-rings. You can find it at Shop S405 in the PMQ centre.

Although PMQ is very centrally located, it’s not on the normal tourist radar. However it’s a good place for unique souvenirs and indie style shops. There are a number of local fashion labels and home-grown local brands. There are jewellery designers, some of who you can watch at work, and artisans making leather goods. It was planned as a creative hub and has attracted design studios and workshops. There is also a foodie aspect, with the ABC cooking school, sake tasting, a beautiful bread shop, and a couple of spots to eat and a bar.
It’s a quirky sort of shopping venue because it’s all located inside what was once the old Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters (a Grade III historic site). It has retained all the original structure and layout so each shop or studio is in one of the original units.
If like me, you are interested in the history, this building was the first one to provide residences for married police officers and their families. There were 140 single room units and 28 double room units. No-one could say that it’s an attractive building. Built in 1951, it’s utilitarian and austere but it doesn't take much imagine to wonder what life was like for these families living so closely together in compact units in this compound. If walls could only talk… The last families moved out around 2005 and it stood empty for almost 10 years until work began to revitalise the building and create this arts and design centre. It now has an interesting, cool feel about it and is worth a visit.

Thank you for your interest in PMQ. Most of the studio units on 2/F or above will open at noon as usual on Sunday. The opening hours of individual shops may vary. Please refer to the PMQ website for details.
If you arrive early that day, you may visit other shops on G/F and 1/F, or the Exhibition Area (Units S508 & S509 on 5/F) which depicts the history of PMQ.

Hi, i was there in late December 2018. I came across a shop which does photography for people who are interested to dress up in the olden days. But i cannot remember the name of the studio. I recall that advance booking is required, and that hair makeup and wardrobe is included for the retro photography session.
