Be prepared to make a long arduous trek to the site where the Azure Breasted Pitta, an uncommon endemic bird found at the Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape. We also saw the Yellow Breasted Tailor Bird and the Silvery Kingfisher. The other attraction, the wattled broadbill, was a disappointment and we did not see it. The monkeys are also another draw to tourists. They do however, entice the monkeys with peanuts, to come down. The restroom at the tourism office had no water and toilet paper. I would have expected more after paying the P500.00 birdwatching fee plus P155 other fees. Another helpful advice would be to bring insect repellant before starting out.

There is no better place on Bohol to see wildlife in their natural environment than Rajah Sikatuna. It’s not perfect - I don’t like that they lure the monkeys down from the trees with food and the inexperienced (but hospitable) guides I had during my visit didn’t speak English - but it’s still definitely worth visiting.
The night walk provided us with sightings of mostly snakes, colugos (flying lemurs) and various unusual arthropods, the highlight of which was seeing a tarantula hawk wasp in action against an unfortunate large spider.
We had an early start the next morning for the birdwatching tour. The park has many species that are endemic to the Philippines and those are the ones my guide focused solely on. For him it seemed to be about quality rather than quantity and he spent the majority of the time trying to find three species for me, namely, the wattled broadbill, the rufous-lored kingfisher and the azure-breasted pitta. When I explained to him that I was also interested in other birds and animals, and mentioned a few others I’d like to see, he immediately made it happen by taking me to areas in the park he knew we were sure to see them.
If I ever find myself on Bohol again I’ll definitely return to this place.

We paid for the 'Park tour and viewing deck' with monkey feeding. They insisted that we pay for the guide. Very disappointed, yes we did see some monkeys and could feed them bananas but really we visited for the nature park but it was a 5 minute walk around a very small area. Told we needed to pay more if we wanted to walk around more of the nature park. Guide did not speak English and could not answer any questions about the (limited) plants/flowers we saw. There was one sad looking bird of prey in a cage. We wanted to go up to the viewing deck, our 'guide' advised that it was a difficult 45 minute walk and that there was no view because the trees had grown higher than the view deck. We decided to go anyway (he wasn't very happy!) And it was a 15-20 min walk up with nice views! Not sure why he didn't want us to go up there. He seemed keen for the tour to be over as quick as possible. You can go on a hike which costs more but I expect this is a better option as you would actually be permitted to see more of the nature reserve! To be honest, we would not recommend this, unless you want to pay 350 peso to feed a few monkeys..!

I recommend this place if you love to walk. The place is peaceful so if you want to have a breath of fresh air at the same time some time alone to meditate, this could be a great place for you. There were also a few animals adding to that nature-feel. Overall, this place is okay.

A faire !!

The protected area is peaceful and you get to see a few animal including the shy and slow-moving flying lemur. There were also some rescued birds of prey recuperating on the premises. The guided tour was mostly pointless because the guide barely spoke English and no one shared any information about the area or the reserve. I was not happy that monkeys were called down from trees with offers of fruit but that seems to be the extent of interactions with wildlife. Apart from this it was a good visit to a well-maintained area.

We were determined to go hiking somewhere in a natural area near the center of Bohol. It was difficult to find information about hiking or trails; I asked around but most people seemed determined to direct us to the Chocolate Hills observatory or the CHAP adventure park there. No thanks. I always avoid organized tours and pseudo-"adventure" parks and seek out authentic natural experiences and just wanted to find a trail where we could go hiking for a few hours. After doing some searching on the internet for "Bohol hiking" and "Bohol trekking", I found a reference to the Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape (formerly designated a "national park"). After some further digging we made a visit and it was fantastic! We were there at the wrong time of day (noon) for good birding – come in the early morning or evening for that, but we still had a very nice hike, saw some birds and animals, and had a great swim at Logarita Springs (pool). Nobody we asked knew about this place, even locals, so you really have to use your map skills, but once you get there it's worth it!
