We arrived at the true Carbon Market buildings ( around 5pm ) when the street areas surrounding these public fruit & vegetable markets , were converting to the Carbon Night Markets

Carbon Market is probably pretty cool, IF you’re from Cebu. If you’re looking for the true sense of the phrase: “open air market” this is your spot. If you’re looking for safe and clean open air market, this is NOT the place for you.
As soon as we got out of our car (hired a driver) we were immediately accosted by a group of children who told us to give them money. We let them know we didn’t speak English or any other language they may know. Our driver must’ve know we were just going to walk in a circle and come immediately back in his car. He kept the engine running.
As the other reviewers have said the market is looks gross, smells bad, and is vile dirty.
Do better Cebu!

A little background: I'm a Expat living here in the Philippines since 2019 and have been traveling to the philippines since 1988. The Carbon Market is on one of the oldest streets in the Philippines and near many other places of interests. It's also one of the dirtiest places I have even been to here in the Philippines. Do not go to the Night Market. The Food inspector hasn't been there since the Spanish left. The shellfish served is either , raw, uncooked , or spoiled. The big seller here is Tuslob Buwa (pureed Pig brain and Liver in oil) After eating some of the food there we went tp the Pharmacy to buy Imodium.
If you want good food try Sugbo Mercado in I.T. Park.

Carbon market may be most important and popular street market if you like Asian night markets. You would go and see locals traditions but it must be improved at hygenical and various about textiles and gifts options. It should be at thai Street markets standards at least. There were so many bad reviews about thieves or security problems, bu I didn't feel anything like these problems

I have been coming to Carbon market for about 25 years and though I have seen it change, it is still a place that is worthwhile visiting. The open air market in down town Cebu is mainly a market for filipino's and you probably will not see many tourists there. You can buy a lot of stuff there varying from food such as fresh fruit and tools such as bolo's. prices are low compared to the supermarkets but you can be sure there is a white surcharge the moment you are spotted.
Your hotel will probably tell you not to go there, because it is dangerous and various reviews here will say the same. Yet, I never had problems there, but......just some tips: Do not wear jewelry, leave your watch at home/hotel, do not bring a lot of money, if you have an expensive phone, do not flash it around.
As said I have been coming there for 25 years and never had any problems, not even when I walked all the way down to the river which means going into some slums there. It is just one of those places you need to have seen before it may disappear. It is tempting to stay at the outside of the market but be brave and dive in. It is dirty, filthy, but really worthwhile to visit, I mean if you want to visit clean places you could have stayed home and go the the mall there.

Carbon Market is the oldest and largest farmer's market in Cebu City, and worth checking out if you are in Cebu. You will see a lot of outdoor vendors, but make sure and look for the area inside as well. I've found the best prices are often inside. See the video below as an example, where mangoes outside were 90 pesos or more a kilio, but inside as low as 30 pesos a kilo.

the fruits and vegetables are fresh and cheap. its better and cheaper to buy from wholesale vendors tending their products along the street. its wise to check the prices first before buying. prices are usually more than 50% or 100% less than in the supermarket. pineapple and melon cost only 20 per kilo, while in supermarket its 50 to 60 per kilo.

if you like shopping this will be the write place , endless shops both sides , you can find everything there at cheap price . open early morning at 7am and not sure what times closes . it could be dangerous if you not careful enough , i have not gone through any bad experience although i went there almost everyday for 2 weeks . i was told not to take my mobile out of my pocket to take picture , because its not safe . i also keep my hand inside my pocket holding my cash most of the time . its very good if you cook yourself as you can get fresh veg + fish +meet+ chicken. fresh coconut to drink is only 30 pps . if you walk to the church the shops start , streets full of shops most of the prices are fixed but if you shop around you can find same cloth or shows been sold cheaper than others metro mall is very good to get at kitchen or tools stuff .western union is also cheaper to exchange money than cebu city centre . general the best is to take us dollars the commission is almost nothing , brit-pounds is the worst so is the euro , one last thing , its easy to get lost there
