Admission to the Museum was free despite my status as a foreigner, praises the mystique of the competent Peruvian authorities to promote knowledge of culture without distinction of nationality, which does not happen in many countries, including my own (Mexico).
There are two exposed pieces that cause greater archaeological relevance:
The Raimondi stele and the Tello obelisk (Both Chavin de Huántar culture).
The historical section of the museum primarily exhibits pieces by liberator Simon Bolivar such as uniform, sword, mount, etc.).
Highly recommended the visit.
Enjoy the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru because: LIFE is a JOURNEY!

National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History has fulfilled my expectations to admire a piece of great value: Estela Raimondi.
The "Deity of the staffs" ubiquitous in Andean cultures (Caral, Chavín, Nazca, Paracas, Tiwanaku etc.) has caused me fascination, since years when I witnessed its representation as the "crying God" in the enigmatic Tiwanaku (Bolivia). On this occasion I have had the opportunity to admire it fully in the masterful "Estela Raimondi" by Chavín de Huántar (1000 BC- 200 BC) in its anthropomorphic facet where headgear, fangs and claws constitute distinctive elements.
I share with you the excitement of meeting this representation, the second oldest discovered to date.

The archaeology part of the museum is closed for renovation. No work is being done, the rooms are closed, only a few objects are on display in the inner yard gallery, and according to an attendant it will open in about 4 years. The history museum is open.

It starts with the history of the building itself, which is more than 200 years old and was home to both General José de San Martin and Simon Bolivar. Being there is living the story. The local guides are very attentive and lively.

Upon arriving, I was asked where I was from, informed that entry was free and guided on how I should visit. The space had several rooms showing what Peru's independence process was like, as well as an exhibition focused on Simon Bolivar, the person responsible for the country's independence and four others in South America (Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador).
The museum also had some items for sale, such as sweets and chocolates, as well as archaeological items.
The complete visit took around 1h30.

The place where it is currently located is made of adobe and is very dangerous for visitors and the archaeological pieces that are there in the event of a fire or an earthquake, everything would be destroyed. It's a shame because they have a beautiful and modern place in Pachacamac but apparently the authorities are very negligent.

The museum has been undergoing renovation for some years, before going somewhere you should inform yourself, the museum has 5 centuries of Peruvian history.
One problem is the guides, some of them do not have the desire or interest to explain (I had a not very pleasant experience with a guide when I asked her something and the only thing she told me was to search on the internet), but there are guides that explain everything to you and Are you interested in knowing more (the first time I went I was guided by a man who explained everything to me and I was interested in going again because of the short time I had).
The issue of security, if you are in a large group, security will always be close to you and that is why there are many things that I am original about.

Located in the Lima neighborhood of Pueblo Libre, this museum was the residence of San Martin and later of Bolivar. We found it very interesting to learn more about the independence of Peru and its origins.
We went on a Sunday and admission was free. Very well preserved and easy to navigate.
There was a very good temporary exhibition of Bolivar
I wouldn't miss it
