The Military Museum is located inside the Belgrade Fortress. We couldn't visit inside the museum, but visited the display of tanks, armoured cars etc in front of the museum. Some were acquired during World War II, and captured from retreating Nazis. These decommissioned tanks and artillery are lined up along the wall on both sides of the path. It's worth visiting this museum.

During our walking tour we came at this place. After we crossed beautiful Kalemegdan, we saw some tanks and big artillery guns were kept in the small garden. We were told by our guide that there is a military museum inside. Due to shortage of time we decided not to go inside. May be next time.

This museum is located at the beginning of the Belgrade Fortress. It is certainly a military museum but as required of Serbian history it is also a history museum. Do not miss the tenuous Serbs of the 19th century, the bloody outfit of King Alexander assassinated in Marseille in 1934 and the play on the NATO bombings of 1999 that says a lot...

We had enough exposure outside, we didn't go inside the museum, the old equipment to my son was generally interesting, but on the street you can see it for free in enough quantities

The Military Museum's displays, apart from the section about the NATO aggression in 1999 (but, but ... it's a defensive alliance!), seems to date from before the break-up of Yugoslavia, as many sections cover historical developments in the 1918 - 1991 borders, not just those of modern Serbia. And they do look old.
Apart from the bit about the NATO attack and invasion, the displays are labelled primarily (possibly only, although I might have missed some) in Serbian. I've learnt Russian, I could get the gist, but a non-Serbian speaker might struggle.
However, despite these drawbacks, as the western Balkans have been a battleground between East and West for millenia, you get to see weapons and armour from Greece, Rome, the Eastern Roman Empire (known for some reason as Byzantium, although they NEVER called themselves that), Slavs, Goths, Magyars, Turks, mediaeval Italy etc. etc.
You see the devastation wrought upon Serbia in WW1, the coup to reject an alliance with the Axis, voluntarily putting themselves in harm's way to stand with the UK when it stood alone, the subsequent 1941 invasion, the partisan resistance in WW2, the post-war role as a non-aligned nation in the Cold War then NATO taking the side of the losers in WW2 to deal out another beating to a nation that had suffered so much as our ally.
Sad, shameful for me as an Englishman, but informative.

Great experience . The outdoor exhibits all contain the big hit of Eastern Bloc military equipment of the Cold War era . That alone is worth the admission fees to the museum .
The inside I could not visit as it was close but if they were open, I certainly would want to enter and learn more about Serbia’s history since they were heavily involved in so many wars .

This is number 1 must see in Belgrade and rightly so. If you are a military enthusiast like myself wandering around equipment such as in here is a must. Plenty of WW2 vehicles, especially German and Soviet, and surprisingly a katyusha. Rarest of all, and nobody shouts about it, is the Panzer 1F, just over 30 made and this is one of only 2 left in the world. Kubinka has the other one, so chances of seeing that are rare.
This is a great place to walk around, lots to see and you have the park and river views also.
Best of all....its free.

A paradise made for history and war enthusiasts. Don't get me wrong when I say war enthusiast. I am talking about a war phenomenon parallel to the development of humanity. It is a perfect place that touches on every period and continues in a chronological line.

Located near the fortress, the museum collects numerous and interesting finds linked to the history of Yugoslavia and Serbia, including some parts of the American Stealth shot down during the last of the Balkan wars.

We have enjoyed visiting the Military Museum - very impressive exposition of tanks and another military. Not too busy, great opportunities for photos, and it's free to visit.
