The climb was lovely. I love that there are so many trees and that there was a lot of rocky incline. It was a wonderful, though short, workout. The view at the top was fantastic! Perfect spot for a picnic.

The notch is often crowed , but there are many trails to experience. Most are hilly, but there is one loop that is easier. Read the trail map before going. Otherwise it is a beautiful place.

Many hiking path to chose from in this area. Check out the maps online or there is a map posted. At times can get crowded but still enjoyable. You can easily spend the whole day hiking here. Some trail not mark that well. Do bring a map if doing some smaller trails.

Maps are available above the parking lot near the visitor center and also online. The bathrooms at the visitor center are open but the educational room is not although there are sheets for trail-type games (scavenger hunt, etc.) for children in the lobby outside the bathrooms.

I tend not to wear bug repellant. The gnats were present at the lower elevations and not up higher. They were easily swept away with the map as I walked and, yes, they were annoying but I only noticed one or two at a time.

I took this hike on a Thursday afternoon in September and crossed paths with about 5 people. At the head of the trail, near the visitor center, there are several suggested loops with detailed instructions. I hiked the one for Mt. Norwottuck and Horse Caves. I took a photo of these instructions and was glad I did. The trails are well maintained and mostly well marked but there are more trails branching out than the map suggests. I was assessing whether my 11 year old friend, who does like to be outside but doesn't like bugs or strenuous hikes, would like hiking this trail. It is steep going the direction I went. I might reverse it and go to Horse Caves via RF and skip the summit altogether unless she decided she was up for the steep part.

I will definitely be exploring more of the Mt. Holyoke Range State Park in the seasons to come.

Nice place to spend an afternoon. The hike is easy, as is the walk. Great view, and safety not a problem

worth going to the visitors center, then to the tallest mountain in the chain, mt. norwattuck. it's also the only moutain chain in the state as well as the usa going east to west!

The trails are well maintained and well marked. There is something for everyone here: difficult, intermediate and easy (Kids). I was taking my kids here before they were walking and now they are almost finished high school and they still go hiking there. I go about once every other week.

A recent hike at the Notch was amazing. Trails marked well and paths were clear. The white trail was quite steep for a beginner like me but I made it half-way up.

Great hike up the notch on a nice sunny Spring day. We trekked up the notch with our with our dogs who enjoyed all the scents from other critters that traveled the trails. This is an easy to medium hike due to the short incline to the top. The trail is very well maintained and easy to negotiate in good weather. There were some other hikers along the trail who were all very friendly. We did bring a bottle of water along for the dogs but we consumed more than they did. Bring as camera, you can see for miles from the top. Great hike in t he fall during foliage season. We spent a couple of hours on the other trails across from the notch that meandered through the woods. Great place to spend a day and have a picnic.

This is one of our "go-to" hiking spots. Our favorite hike is up the Robert Frost Trail, over to Rattlesnake Knob, and then through the Horse Caves. Sort of steep but worth it. You will love the views.

It is frustrating to arrive and view a beautiful welcome center facility that is always LOCKED. We called last summer (the height of hiking season) and were advised "there is no money to staff it". Sad that we have this jewel of a park and no working facilities (except for the unsightly sani-cans at the edge of the parking lot). Another waste of tax-payer money - build a Welcome Center and then lock it up.
