We visited the Old Town of Dubrovnik for a walk. Cathedral located at the back of St. Blaze Church. The hustle and bustle of Ruzsa Square is a believable hustle and bustle in the clean-looking inner sanctuary. It is said to have started when King Richard I of Inglad, whose ship was wrecked on his way home from the Third Crusade, barely made it to the city, dedicated the cost of building the church, but the Romanesque cathedral, built in the 12th and 14th centuries, was completely destroyed by a major earthquake in 1667. The current building is Baroque, built after the earthquake. Don't miss Titian's Assumption of the Virgin on the main altar wall! Many other treasures that recall the prosperous history of the city-state of Dubrovnik have been preserved.

Because of the good reviews, we couldn't miss this cathedral during our visit to the old city of Dubrovnik.
The church looks sober from the outside, not what is usual for a cathedral, since a cathedral is the place where a bishop sits, we expected great luxury and opulence as we know in most Northern European countries.
However, the visit to the interior of the church was disappointing. This church has little interesting to offer. There is a painting by Titian and also a treasury for which you had to pay €4 entry, but which we did not visit because we were not impressed by the church anyway.
The same day we visited the chapel belonging to the Franciscan monastery, which was much more impressive.
Very unfortunate because the history of the church seems to be interesting...

It's the biggest church in the old city and it has very Catholic decorations. Busy place with services going on and people praying, not just tourists. I was not impressed, though, not all that beautiful.

Thought that Dubrovnik Cathedral wS average enough as far as Cathedrals go however I am only learning afterwards that there is an extra part (Treasury) which you can pay into. Probably would have popped in had I realised but was tired and took a seat while taking in the surroundings- wasnt too busy and free to pop in for a wander and quick rest.

we also paid extra to see the treasury - which was also a reliquary. Quite informative! Close to the maritime museum - and interesting squares, restaurants and market behind.

The Cathedral is beautiful and well worth a visit. The altar is quite pretty with a painting of the Ascension of Mary. The Cathedral also has some pretty stained-glass windows, statues and other beautiful paintings.

Dubrovnik Cathedral (Croatian: Katedrala Uznesenja Blazene Djevice Marije) dates from the early 18th century and is located not far from the Rector's Palace in the heart of Dubrovnik's old town. Entry is free and it is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The triptych is by Titian and there are other works of art by important Italian artists. However, we liked the Church of St. Blaise better overall. A visit to the cathedral treasury costs €3.

The Dubrovnik Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built in 17th century replacing the older cathedral that was destroyed in the earthquake. Its blue dome is one of Dubrovnik’s postcard views, visible from almost any point when one walls.

The cathedral has a lovely interior, with numerous old religious paintings, one of them of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary that is attributed to Titian.

According to urban legend, Richard the Lionheart paid for the construction of the original Romanesque style church after surviving a shipwreck on the nearby island of Lokrum.

This church was destroyed in the 1667 earthquake and rebuilt in the new Baroque style seen today between 1672 and 1713.

The first thing we noticed were the four sleek, slender and richly decorated Corinthian columns flanking the entrance of the Cathedral.

The Cathedral is built in the shape of a three-nave building with a grand baroque dome on top which is visible from anywhere in Old Town.

I did not find the interior very awe inspiring, it was somewhat underwhelming but we snapped a few pictures of a painting from the school of Titian – the Assumption of the Virgin that is hung above the stark contemporary altar.

Impressive building that stands out when visiting the historic center of the city, whose blue dome also dominates the city when seen from the walls. Dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, we must not forget San Blas, patron of the city, whose relics are kept there. Declared a world heritage site, it is worth visiting the exterior and interior (even if there is a fee), after learning about its complex history.

Large cathedral in the old town with all the usual trappings of a religious building. The main thing by that took my eye were the very modern “stations of the cross” made in a mosaic style which are really eye catching.
Overall a nice building to look at.
