Part of the walls ticket, some amazing views of the city. Probably the best ones you'll take. Nice area outside with benches to enjoy the lovely harbour too.

A tower that is part of the old city walls. You will see it on the horizon as it is quite high. You can climb up the stairs if you are energetic and you will be rewarded with a commanding view.

The Minceta Fortress (Croatian: Tvrđava Minceta) is a fortress from the 14th century and was part of the mighty city fortifications of Dubrovnik. It is located in the north-west of the old town on the highest point of the city and is integrated into the city walls. You can visit it as part of a walk over the city walls and get great views of the city and the sea including the Lovrijenac Fortress.

Once we passed through the Pile Gate, we found a lively square surrounded by landmarks which we would visit after we walked the walls. To the left of the Pile Gate we found one of the entrances, presented our tickets and climbed a steep stairway that lead up to the Minceta Tower. The prefect starting point to one of Dubrovnik’s best activity, albiet expensive, walking around the top of the walls.

This tower is one of the most visited of the wall’s defensive structure and was originally built in 1319 by a local builder Nicifor Ranjina, as a strong four-sided fort after the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Empire (1453). The fortress was named after the Mencetic family who owned the ground which the tower was built upon.

Michelozzo Michelozzi, an Italian architect and sculptor was tasked to further fortify the tower in 1461 using new warfare techniques which fortified the pre-existing tower even more. The second circular tower was added to the basic structure of the fortress making it the highest point of the walls.

When we began our walk of the walls, posted signs sent us counterclockwise so by the time we reached the Minceta Tower, the crowds had built up and my patience was wearing thin. The line to enter the tower was quite long, so we decided to give it a skip as we were in dire need of refreshments.

The Minčeta Tower was built by Italian engineers sent by Pope Pius II at the height of the Turkish threat and is the most important point of the landward defense system. The circular tower was added to the basic structure of the fortress which is the highest point of the walls and from which you can therefore enjoy a beautiful view.

The Minceta Fortress is at the northwest corner of the walls around Dubrovnik. It's the highest point of the walls, and we loved the views and photos from the top. You can skip climbing it, but we recommend it. You go up via some interior stairs and then come out on the top of the tower. There are a couple small niches you can enter, and views all the way around. We especially liked the ones looking back over the city and out to the sea, as well as looking down to spot the modern sport court tucked right in under the walls. It takes a bit of extra effort climb up, but we always enjoy finding the high points and the views they offer.

Visited on July 2022.

It is part of the wall, so you can only go in with a pass. We came here halfway of the wall. Being pregnant, 33 degrees outside, many people walking and tierd from walking, I decided to not go up. There was a nice cafe next to it and I decided to go there instead. My husband on the other hand did go up. He said that the view is high, so you can see all Dubrovnik.

As is known, there is a one-way walkway on the wall. Minceta is located at the end of the wall and also the highest point with a beautiful view of the city. Take plenty of water with you. a small bottle of water costs €3.00, which is ridiculous.

The museum within the tower is great , but not very well advertised, the day i was there in early July there was only a couple of other people looking round.
Its called the foundry and explains how cannon balls were made. some of the displays need a little more explanation , but it also gets you into different sections of the walls that are not on the normal walls route.
If you have bought the Dubrovnic pass its well worth finding the entrance .

You get some great views from the fortress as its the highest point of the wall. You also get some great views of the tower as you walk up to it from the walk below it.
The entrance is looks like a dark cavern as you walk up to it. You climb up an internal staircase to access the tower.
The tower is also a filming location of GOT as the house of the undying. The walk around the base is awesome.
Its the last thing to see on the circuit of the wall and then its a short walk down hill on the wall to get to the exit staircase.
