The Mughals were clearly sensitive to cleanliness as demonstrated by this public bathhouse. The renovation was completed by the Aga Khan foundation and the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Islamabad ~~ to which I feel indebted.
Originally built in 1635 CE by the Governor of Lahore, Hakim Illmuddin Wazir Khan (who also endowed the nearby Wazir Khan Mosque), the Hummam fell into disuse at the time of the fall of the Mughal Empire. A couple of renovation attempts were topped off by the present conservation (completed just four years ago).
The signage is not really sufficient to explain exactly how the whole system worked and unless you have, for example, some understanding of Roman baths it can be a little confusing. I saw no sign of any printed guides and no human guides were available for hire when I toured. Nonetheless, this is a worthwhile visit in a cool place with a tiny courtyard café to finish up your visit.
Since this is within the walled city of Lahore it also makes sense to visit the Wazir Khan Mosque, Delhi Gate, the spice market during this sojourn. If you choose to finish off at this hammam then this provides a wonderful sense of calmness in what is otherwise the hustle bustle of central Lahore.
All the places mentioned in the prior paragraph can be done adequately within a total of 2 to 3 hours on foot. Foreigners have a fee of 400 Rupees.

This royal bath restoration has brought life to our walled city as more and more visitors are coming to witness the local life. ticket price is around 500 pkr for foreigners and it gives you the hint to the engineering they used for royal bath systems.

How civilized the Mughals Era was.... You just imagine the whole system which is centuries old and still no SPA or anything is close to it. I wished I could saw / visualize it in reality that how it actually looked at that time. The water channels and steam bath, whole idea is creative and innovative with respect to technology of that era.

We visited Amazing Royal Bath House (The Shahi Hammam) was built in 1635 by Ilam-ud-din Ansari, Governor of Lahore, as part of an endowment which included the Wazir Khan Mosque. The baths fell into disuse by the 18th century during the decline and fall of the Mughal Empire.
Incredible work done by The Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), with funding from the government of Norway, began restoration works at the baths to conserve the space, restore the original layout of the building, and to uncover and preserve Mughal-era frescoes which decorated the building's walls. works were completed in 2015, and are the improvements are said to have changed the surroundings "dramatically. The Agha Khan newly reopened Sahi Hamman was magnificent. The frescoes have been delicately restored and are well lit for full appreciation. This is the best restoration and I have seen on this trip to Pakistan. If in Lahore, must be visited.
