The visitor moves between impressive temples, viharas, statues, a school and lots of greenery of all sizes. The royal palace once stood on this area and if you look around you can still see secular buildings with references to this time. Above all, you also meet friendly, relaxed people who either work here or have come here for inner contemplation.
All in all, this is a pleasure to experience here. It is a great symbiosis of the people, the plants and the buildings. You should therefore take your time and wander around here and just sit down and let the atmosphere sink in; inhale it.
The social contacts that arise in this environment in a way that is unfortunately no longer found in the metropolises of the western world are also very remarkable.
In short: we found our stay in this ‘world’ to be extremely pleasant. When we left the site, we also realized that we had stayed here much longer than we thought.
What was also very pleasant was that the type of people who go on a very strenuous ‘sightseeing marathon’ to see the Angkor relics in Siem Reap were nowhere to be seen here.

When you've seen the ruins of Angkor Wat and when you've done enough souvenir shopping at Siem Reap markets you may need a bit of a rest. Wat Damnak monastery is a haven of peace with temples, a cemetery and a pond. We spent about an hour there around lunchtime - together with an ice cream vendor and a tuk-tuk driver selling boiled snails. Both had obviously chosen this place for their daily afternoon nap, and one of them even fixed a hammock between two trees. A nice retreat!

Nice monasteries in city near old market with beautiful decorations and there are many Buddhist monks live inside, it is better place to see after Angkor temple.

A beautiful, colourful complex of buildings, scented by plentiful frangipani, just across the river from the tourist centre of Siem Reap. It is well worth a visit (free to enter). It’s very well maintained, with a school in the grounds full of happy children, so is a complete contrast to the ruined temples of Angkor Tom.

We came across this Wat by accident. After looking around the Market Psar Chas we walked across the Siem Reap River to the Art Market and then walked further South East towards the Wat Damnak. It was obviously a monastery or temple so we ventured in. There were some very ornate structures and a large cemetery area. The Buddhist Cemeteries are made up of structures which are like min-pagodas - some are obviously newer than others - some appear to be neglected or desecrated? There was a wonderful philosophical signpost that read, "Three things that will be gone forever - Time - Words - Opportunity." The Wat is being used for teaching and prayers (remember to remove your shoes and hat if you enter a building).

Managed to book a table on day two of our visit. The reviews were very good. Unfortunately the dishes did not match the price. For the price of over USD30.00 per person for the quality of the food did not match our expectations. The starter fish dish is very scrawny and the second fish dish had a fishy taste. We were seated upstairs without air condition. We were quite disappointed with the dinner experience.

Wat Damnak is the largest pagoda in Siem Reap. It was a royal palace during the reign of King Sisowath. Offering a tranquil retreat from the bustling town center, you can take a break in the shade and relax for a moment. It's fitted with traditional Khmer architecture, stone carvings of Buddha, frangipani trees, and a pond filled with colorful waterlilies. The songs from Buddhist gathering at Vihara could be heard from everywhere. It's a great place to experience the daily life of its resident monks, who are also happy to be seen around and educate them on Buddhism. Do not hesitate to start the discussion with the Monks, you will be very well welcome . Worth a visit.

We really enjoyed the opportunity to give alms and receive a monk’s traditional blessing at Wat Damnak Pagoda. It was a unique experience focused on meditation and consensus and we were happy with the relaxation and reflection it provided us.

After having visited during 2 days many amazing Temples, the ancient Khmer ones that actualy we came for, we wished to take a break and decided to visit some day markets and "new" Temples in siam Reap.
So we visited this one, Wat Dam Nak, as well as some other ones in the City Center like Wat Bo, Wat Preah Prom Rath and others.

They were nice and since there were no tourists at all (or almost), it was even very good, the atmosphere was quiet, serene, relaxing, no pushing from hundreds of tourists, no stepping on your feet or blocking your photos...

As I like to call these Temples, they are islands of peace, oasis of silence, just walking slowly near the monks is a rare experience.

I have attached many pictures trying to give you a glimpse of this Temple.
Of course you need to make time because this will come instead of ...Fantastic old Khmer Temples...

A difficult choice!
