I am from Australia so this experience very different to anything i have ever done. The Hotels in town expensive during ice festival time. Better to stay a little out of town near a metro for example the Harbin West railway station and Didi like uber) are very cheap and accessible . Its saves a lot of money or you can catch metro which is easy to navigate.
I got there beginning of January so I everything was not quite ready but still worth going . Plenty to see and do.
Try the hop on hop off bus can get ticket near the cablecar entry , worth it very cheap and gives you your bearings.
The ice and snow festivals are separate but both fantastic in their own right.
The tiger park did not disappoint i did not see anything that worried me as an animal lover. The people are contained and tigers have a huge area to roam . There was a small circus attached to tiger park which i enjoyed no tigers doing tricks .
The weather was about 15 degrees below zero but if you dress for it not a problem everywhere is heated in side.
If you get a chance go . If you have time catch the sleeper train up or back and fly one way , a nice experience.

The park itself with lots of nice sculptures and free rides BUT the enclosure for the animals are too small. We saw 2 wolves in a glass box so small even my dog wouldn't be able to run freely there. So much land but couldn't spare the animals a decent living space.

Big area. Take a few hours to complete visit all places inside. Beautiful ice crafting. Nice to take pictures. Have a cafe inside, have a shuttle to pay for sightseeing

太阳岛的游览面积很大，服务设施和安排也不错。游玩项目中的游乐场，动物园等感觉更适合亲子游。虽然也有花园，树木，湿地，河流，但是对于我们四川人来说还是太单调了。另外可能是天气的原因，这里很少高大的树木，夏天会非常晒。

太阳岛是哈尔滨五A级景区坐落在松花江北岸
环境优美，到处都是绿植，空气很新鲜
有三种方式可以上岛，坐缆车，地铁或者坐船
园区面积很大，走路的话可能会累，可以租双人自行车在里面骑行，还可以选电动观光车
里面有好几个景点，有水阁云天，太阳瀑，松鼠岛，鹿苑，笨熊乐园，鸳鸯岛还有花海
鹿苑买了鹿粮可以进去0距离喂食
游乐园里的游玩项目也很多
还有一条美食街
里面也有野餐露营的地方，可以带上吃的喝的
整体感觉很不错，有种亲近自然的放松感觉，很适合带小朋友逛一逛#遛娃好去处 #周末遛娃 #遛娃日常 #游乐园 #哈尔滨旅行

I was in Harbin for 1 week and there are many places that offer to see snow sculptures. But if you really want to see some cool designs and huge impressive snow sculptures then you have to come here. I would consider this place a small amusement park/Snow sculpture museum. Had some slides and ice skating toys. It's farely quick to see everything and there are some impressive snow sculptures to see but for the price paid I think it was only worth 3 out of 5 In my opinion especially when most things were not completed yet..
I visited during non peak times during the week and it took less than half a day maybe 2-3 hours to see and do everything. I have added a picture of the map but it seems most is only accessible during non Winter times as only maybe 25% of the snow area on the map was accessible.

太阳岛是一处由大面积的湿地景观、欧陆风情、冰雪文化、民俗文化等资源构成的具有休闲、观光、娱乐、科普教育、度假等功能为一体的风景名胜区。
风景美丽，建筑物有特色，不过就是太冷了，做好保暖措施！冬天四点多就没阳光！

太阳岛所有地方现在都免门票！游客只需使用微信扫描“龙江健康码”即可入园，沿岛一周设有绿道，全长5km左右，便于慢跑的人，岛内有很大面积的草地，可以用于野餐，冬天可能会与夏天完全不同，但我就不知道了。

A great visit to Harbin’s Sun Island on 30 December 2020. The cold did not dampen our spirits as this place is BEAUTIFUL. The snow sculptures were breathtaking. I loved the slide that they built right on a frozen lake. So much fun. The ice sculptors are just amazing artists and craftsmen. A must visit for all who pay Harbin a visit during winter.

Hi, I will be in Harbin from 14th Dec-16th Dec 2019. Is there any attraction I can visit in Sun Island? What about the entrance fee? Is there any suggestion where should I go during my time in Harbin?

When we went, there was no fee to enter the Sun Island complex, but specific events like the balloon ride and entry to the Russian Gardens, the Squrrel House, the Deer Farm, etc. you have to pay. Also pay if you want to ride round in the people mover. But if you just want to walk around the island and look at the different features such as the waterfalls and sculptures, that’s free.

Hi... is it easy to get transportation from the Sun Island snow sculpture place at around 3.30pm to the Snow and Ice World nearby? How much should we pay the taxi for 2 adults for this short journey? Thanks.

I asked for them to put the meter on whilst I got a taxi, I think it was around 15¥! Always ask to put the meter on in taxis so they don’t try rip you off

Hi, I am confused about the Ice Festival, Snow Sculpture and Lantern Festival. Would like to clarify if these 3 attractions are all separate? Are they located near each other?

they are separate. Lantern festival at Zhaolin Park is near to the river in walking distance in the city. nice at day for a first impression, beautiful at night.
sun island across the river on the big Island, visit recommended daily though some slight lights at dawn.snow sculptured. overwhelming.
ice&snow festival , same island but different ares and entrances,are the coloured gigantic ice buildings that you probably have seen on Tripadvisor, Google, YouTube etc. unbelievably impressive.
I myself was most fsscinated by sun island as it is more to our taste and culture to rather have natural colours of snow than thrilling changing coloured lights within the icesculptures. but this is no critics, I just try to describe.

Hi Im planning to go to Harbin next month. I've read many reviews stated there is a cable car from Sun Island to city. If I want to ride it, where is the station in the city? Any name of it? and it stated Sun Island close at 17:00 but some of the reviews said we can stay until night to see the view. Is that true?

Yes, there is a cable car running from Sun Island to city, actually it is TWO ways round trip.
The Sun Island Snow Sculpture Park normally stops selling ticket at 16:40 daily, so if you buy the tickets before 16:40, you can go into the park and spend longer time until night as you wish, but it is to cold and windy at night:)
Since Harbin is getting dark at 5pm in winter, you better visit Sun Island Snow Sculpture Park in the daytime, in this way, you can see the snow sculpture clearly.

The ice will have melted by then ... If Spring has arrived the gardens would be lovely if Soring has not arrived and flowers are not in bloom it might be a better to wait
