Spent 2 hrs in this museum. 7 levels but main exhibits are on Level 2, 3 and 4. Level 5 were exhibits relating to Opera which I skipped cause wasn't interested. Had problems using Alipay to rent an audio guide when I was on Level 1 but found out later that you can actually just use their mini program on Wechat and plug in your own earphones to listen to the audio guides for free. How convenient, certainly elevated the experience! They also have live guided tours at 1030 and 1430 hours daily but since I missed the 1030 one, I decided to continue on my own, using the audio guide via Wechat.
Level 2 was largely on Chengdu's early history, the days of the Shu Dynasty. Level 3 was on the next part of their history while Level 4 was on modern history and lfiestyle/customs/culture. Interesting showcase in general, providing a good overview of Chengdu's history and lifestyle. I enjoyed the last bit where you learn about the culture through the food and customs here such as the story behind invention of 宫保鸡丁 ＆ 麻婆豆腐.
It's amazing how they provide this experience entirely free! It's free for all to enter the museum but they do limit to 20,000 per time slot to regulate crowds so you'll have to pre-book it via their Wechat mini program to get a QR code to scan for entry (the form requires a local tel number, luckily I got the hotel staff to help and she used her number to complete the registration for me in order to generate the entry QR code).

成都博物館新館,位於天府公園側面,搭乘地鐵至天府公園,會有指標導引動線!
這是一個館藏豐富的博物館,展品安排系列很有邏輯性,很好看!
常展系列包含成都的文化成長史,人類文明、用火、文化禮儀成長系列說明!

A well-curated museum which gives you a good insight into Chengdu's history and definitely worth a visit - and it's free! The artefacts and displays from the earlier dynasties (when Chengdu was at its zenith) are wonderful. English translation is just about adequate but it's shortage doesn't detract from the experience. The museum is conveniently laid out on five floors in a building slightly reminiscent of the Beijing CCTV underpants. There is a small cafe on the top floor with a view over Tianfu Square

The Chengdu Museum was just a terrific respite in the midst of a rainstorm. The museum was very informative of ancient Chengdu, artifacts, and other periods of history in the area. The coffee shop after walking the various floors was also a good place to sit and talk with our guide.

New Chendu Museum is beautiful, lots of history well arranged and enjoyed all the floors. Best history displayes of the onld and new.

建物は大きいのですが展示スペースはそこまで広くなくて各階に休憩スペースもあります。トイレも清潔で快適です。
順路としては１階から回るのが正解のようでしたが、影絵の展示が見たくて５階から回りました。
入り口でパンダと一緒に並んでいた犀のキャラクターが可愛かったのですが何故犀？と言う疑問は展示を見て理解出来ました。
成都のあちこちにある「茶座」についての解説も興味深く、再訪したいです。
１階には熊猫郵局のグッズを買えるショップもあり，買いそびれた絵はがきなど買うことが出来たのもありがたかったです。

This museum is quite new, very well organized and items and artifacts are well presented. It was free to us as seniors. Signage was OK but more English signage on items and artifacts would have been helpful.

ce musée est juste une splendeur, vous découvrirez chengdu à l'époque des trois royaumes et aux différentes dynasties comme tang, ming et qing, il y avait une expo temporaire sur les serpents et "médusa" une pure merveille, des scènes de vie, art de la table, sans oublié le rhinocéros de pierre

First, unlike someone mentioned earlier, one does NOT need a reservation. (One can speed up entry with a reservation, but not by much)
Entry is free, however you do need a ticket, as a foreigner make sure you have your passport. After you get the ticket, get inline for the standard security check common in China.
The floor you should start on should be determined by your time and interests, especially if you are with small children.
The bottom (basement) floor has very well laid out display of taxidermy spanning the various continents. (Don't for get to look up into the trees or you will miss animals)
The next several floors are dedicated to the ancient history of the region. The 4th floor is divide between culture and folk customs display and 20th century to present. 5th is the puppetry exhibits. (Fairly certain I saw Walter's wife on display eg Jeff Dunham) 6th floor has coffee shop and sitting areas over looking Tianfu plaza which is also your stop on the metro, exit C, for the museum.
(This metro stop is also one of the areas where one can buy a metro pass known as a "tianfutong " card without needing alipay, or wechat pay. The card is purchased with zero balance and then add an amount to it. One can charge it when it is bought, just tell the attendant the amount one wishes to add. The machines where one buys one trip tickets to recharge it)
Make sure to visit the Jinsha site museum if interested in archeology, but have never been to a dig site.
Lastly, Chengdu museum is very popular, so expect many people including classes of school children, many there to do assignments.

Wonderful museum with very well planned layout. There were plenty of interesting and valuable artifacts. The first floor is for temporary exhibits, and second floor and up are permanent collections. As you go from second floor and higher, the collections depict the history of Chengdu from the ancient times (some 4000 BC); to the early establishment of Chengdu; to its rose of prominence; being devastated by war, and deserted; and then re-introduction of civilization policies by ruling government, which encouraged immigration and re-population; and finally came back to its glory days. Excellent. The layout and order of exhibits were very well thought out, and very educational.
Prepare to spend about 2-4 hours. Present your passport and you will get free admission slip.
