A great respite from the busy city. We took the bus, boat and cable car up and back, but there are still a lot of stairs to climb. My Fitbit noted just under 5 miles total there and back from main gate. There are plenty of stalls for food and drink and places to rest, take time and enjoy the views through the trees! We were lucky to have dry but cool weather making climbing easier. There are various maps posted further up the mountain making it easy to check progress. We only have cash and found it easy to buy the various extra tickets. Over 60’s free into park, adults 80. Bus 10. Boat 5 cable car 60 return or can get single if walking one way. Porters will carry you up last part but I didn’t even want to try and discover price as might have been tempted, would have felt too guilty as I’m not the lightest.

There are two Mount Qingcheng - the 'front' and the 'back'. This listing, and this review is for the former, which is much more accessible and frequented.

I went up Mount Qingcheng in mid-November 2023, during which it was in the single digits and misty, particularly at the top.

The mountain has a loop trail involving a cablecar, which lets one hit most of the sites of interest in a single journey. I took the cablecar up, and walked down. This is arguably harder than the opposite direction as there were a couple of trail sections comprised of very narrow and steep steps that were wet from the misty weather. The hardest sections have (somewhat rusty) metal chain rails as a guide - do bring gloves! Ascending all the way to the pagoda at the top took about an hour from the main gate, while descending all the way down by walking took about four hours.

I do not regret doing so. The entire trail can be summed up as 'atmospheric'. Much of the trail is ringed by lush nature. At parts, one stands in the shadow of rock formations of immense presence. The various Taoist temples built by man are beautiful in their own right, but stand in stark humility to the nature that surrounds them.

Mount Qingcheng is an easy recommend.

Climbing Mount QingCheng was a beautiful experience. It is a mountain, so if you choose to climb it it will take some time and there will be many stairs. You should make sure you are in decent health before you climb. If you simply want to see the main attraction, the temple, then you can take a tram up to the top of the mountain. I chose to climb. It was clean, fresh, and if you climb the mountain you will capture some amazing photos.

Not for the faint of heart! It is very humid and very steep. It is a beautiful mountain and cool temples disbursed through the trails. We are relatively in shape and young-ish, and this was a difficult hike. Even after you take the cable car to the top of the mountain, there is still significant walking. Lots of signs about the high oxygen content, since the area is so lush. Very beautiful area. I wish there were more signs about the temples.

We took a Didi from a hotel in downtown Chengdu. The cost was 170 CYN. We arranged for our Didi driver to bring us back to the city for 150 CYN..It was an easy ride. Left downtown at 9 a.m. and arrived at 10:15.

We went in a Tuesday, it was warm and topped 80% humidity. But what an amazing forest. The trail is either wood, cement or stone. It can get very steep. Many reviews say 3 hours round trip. That is just over what it took is.

We took the "sight seeing" car for 10 CYN each way. Certainly worth it. We chose not to take the boat over the water. The walk around is easy and beautiful.

To enter the hike, we were not expecting the 80 CYN pp.. so be prepared. The cable car was 60 CYN pp RT.

A couple of notes, there is cold water you can purchase along the path, along with foods, fruit and even ice cream. There are toilets along the root as well, look for the signs. (I would recommend having some tissue with you as my daughter experienced there being none.. this is not uncommon in China).

There was one path through a temple that was very difficult to find. Our family and an Australian family struggled, the signage was not great. We asked a local, shoulders up, questioning look, pointing up and they showed us the way.

From there it was really not to far too the top and it is worth the steep climb. But once again you have no idea how far it is..I believe about 800 m from the confusing temple.

But the views and the temple are worth it.

This attraction is only about 10 kilometers  away from Dujiangyan irrigation. So you should make a trip here if you are already in that area.

There is a lot of history on how Taoism evolved in this area. You will find  temples spread around the mountain on the front hill.

To enjoy nature and a good hike and this will be a place to visit.

It's a really nice place to go early in the morning. Try to start the climbing before 9h30 with car cable or walking (bit more difficult and long). That's a place you have to go with guide as it will bring you a better understanding of Taoism approach versus Buddhism. One of the rare area were you are really in a nice country side in a nice surrounding with less than an hour driver from Chengdu.

作为中国道教的发源地,道教氛围可以说很浓厚了。主要是空气好,但是冬天还是不建议大家穿很厚去爬山,影响操作 哈哈
