I recently returned to Lucy Jewelry in Cartagena. It was my second visit, the first time being 4 years ago. The first time I visited Cartagena, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of jewelry shops peddling emerald jewelry at a variety of price points. Many had been recommended by tour guides and taxi drivers, and did not have fixed prices. I felt very nervous haggling, because I didn't know what a fair price was.
After wandering around the historic district for a while, I stumbled upon Lucy Jewelry, and I knew instantly that I would be purchasing my emerald from them. The store has a refinement and elegance of a high-end jeweler in the US or Europe, and the prices are fixed because they do not advertise through tour guides or taxis. Furthermore, it was instantly apparent that the quality of their product was a cut above and that their designs were very elegant and artistic.
The first time there I bought a ring with a small but high-quality marquis-cut emerald that I instantly loved. I am cursed with chubby and stumpy fingers, so it is often difficult to find a ring my size that is slenderizing and in proportion to my fingers. Señora Lucy, the founder of this enterprise, personally helped me find a beautiful ring and sized it up for me at no additional cost. Owning a nice emerald was a lifetime dream come true for me, as I was born in May and the emerald is my birthstone.
Fast forward 4 years, and I returned looking for an emerald that I could potentially add to my ring. Unfortunately, I was unable to see Lucy at the store, but I was helped by her daughter and a couple of really nice employees. I found a ring I could stack with my original emerald ring that matched it so perfectly that the two 18k gold rings look as if they came as a set. I tell you, this place is pure magic.
The only small complaint I have is that they had fewer reasonably priced emerald options set in silver than the last time I was there. Bring back more of these affordable (under $200) options, as these pieces make great gifts!

We had a scheduled stop in Cartagena on a cruise and I wanted to purchase a Colombian emerald while there. I started researching from home on where I should go since I knew we would have limited time. I settled on Lucy’s which had the best reviews for quality, fair pricing and customer service. I wasn’t disappointed! The size of a solitaire that I would typically choose was more expensive than I wanted to spend so I looked at bands and found one that I really liked. The emeralds were top quality, shined with dark and bright green tones (think northern lights!) with 18k yellow gold to help show them off. My husband wasn’t planning to buy anything for himself but in the end found a men’s ring that he really liked so we purchased both.
Lucy waited on us with the help of Lincoln for a bit of translation. They were both delightful!
After leaving the store we wandered in a few more stores before returning to our cruise ship, and there was NO comparison on color and quality with other emeralds we saw. We definitely bought from the best!
It’s been a week and I can’t stop staring at my ring.. just beautiful!
Lucy waited on us with the help of Lincoln for a bit of translation. They were both delightful!

I went to at least 15 emerald stores in the Old Town of Cartegena. I own a lot of precious jewellery and have commissioned lots of pieces previously. This is the most high end store in Cartegena - they had the highest quality stones I saw, very stylish and high quality designs and presented in a beautiful manner in their showroom. I agree with others that the service was top notch and they weren’t pushy. However I feel that this store is for people who want to purchase high quality pieces and have a lot of money to spend. I tried on a 2 carat emerald ring which was $65k USD. Great stone, but only if you are looking in that budget. I tried on a nice pair of drop earrings also which were $8k USD for what I thought were fairly small emeralds. If you are seriously seeking an emerald piece from Cartegena I would recommend looking in a lot of stores - there are different designs available and you might just come across something unique that speaks to you. Ask people for prices when you try things on. You very quickly get a feel of opening prices, colour and quality of stones and what you can get for your budget. No one in any of the shops were pushy. I was very happy with the items I purchased from Emerald Station in the end. However if I had my time again I would have purchased in the Emerald District in Bogotá. The emeralds there are very high quality for much less. Remember Cartegena is a very touristy town with lots of rich visitors and I think the prices were overall much higher in Cartegena.
But if you have tonnes of cash to buy jewellery…..Go straight to Lucy.

I had no intention of buying an emerald when I was in Cartagena. But my husband saw so many stores and told me to go and look. The stores I went to were high pressure, had very pretty jewelry, but I did not feel comfortable. I was unsure if they were reputable, or if I was being set up. I did some research and leaned a little bit more about what to look for when purchasing an emerald. I also looked on Google for reputable jewelry stores. that’s how I found Lucy. The experience was totally different. I felt confident that I was not getting ripped off. I ended up purchasing a ring within my budget, which wasn’t much, but they treated me with the same respect, and gave us more knowledge about emeralds . They even helped me pick out the best quality one that I could afford. I am very happy with my purchase of a simple, but beautiful emerald and it will always be a beautiful reminder of Cartagena. They also gave me all the information so that I can get the tax refund at the airport. It was easier than I anticipated. I would only go to this store to purchase, even if the prices in the others seem less, Lucy does not pay tour guides to bring you there. Lucy jewelers makes you feel confident that you got a quality piece.

Purchasing an emerald from Lucy Jewelry was a wonderful experience! I received incredible customer service and found a beautiful emerald ring. I felt comfortable taking my time and never felt any sales pressure to buy something. The store itself is gorgeous and the service is attentive, friendly and professional. I felt proud to buy a special piece from a local and female owned business. Thank you for helping me find a lovely ring and for making me feel so welcome. I would highly recommend this store to anyone looking to buy an emerald. They have something for everyone at every budget. I will definitely stop by again next time I am in Cartagena or by contacting them directly for a future purchase! Sending lots of gratitude and love from Canada :)

The only place to shop for emeralds in Cartagena. The selection and quality was far superior to any other store we visited. They really took the time to educate us on what to look for when selecting your ideal stone. I purchased a beautiful pair of earrings that I couldn't be happier with. Highly recommend!

During our early March 2020, one week visit to Cartagena, we had ample opportunity to shop many emerald stores. We found the staff to be honest and up front. They have quite a variety of pieces at various price points. After visiting the store and going to other venues, my wife decided between two rings at Lucy's so we returned. We ended up buying the more expensive piece. Though it was higher than our pre-trip budget, we opted to spend the extra money to find a ring that had a quality stone and beautiful setting. It absolutely checked all the boxes.
Because they dont pay to be on the vacation traveler bus tour circuit, their prices (considering quality) were the best we found. We look forward to returning to get accompanying pieces.

I was in Cartegena in January and got a ring at Lucy Jewelry as a memento for my trip to Cartegena. A couple months after, I lost the Emerald in the ring. When they were make aware, Lucy reached out to me and sent a new ring to me. I still can't believe it! I've never heard of such a thing. They even upgraded the size of my ring. Now when I look down at my ring, I am reminded of the beach in Isla Mucura, the sloths in the middle of the city, and the service at lucy jewelry. I will definitely be coming back.

We are in Downtown, the easiest way to get here is to ask for a taxi to your Cruise company and tell him to leave you at Santo Domingo Plaza and as soon as you get there, ask for Lucy Jewelry, its two steps from it
PD: Dont tell the cab driver you are coming to Lucy's because as we are a company without tourist guides, we dont raise your price to give them commision, so they wont bring you here
