The hike to/from the Blow Hole is not for the timid, faint of heart, and couch potatoes! This is one nasty little walk that is filled with challenges at every step. The lava rocks are very sharp and unstable. Good footing is tough to find. Although we did take walking sticks, I suggest that you take 2 of them! Keeping your balance is a challenge. None of our group had an accident on this little walk (it is a circle walk to and from the site and you do not back track--although the guide does give the members of the group an option to take the "easier" way back following the path in), but more than a few expletives were uttered along the way! I actually had to "catch" one member of our group that fell off a stepping stone.
The Blow Hole is far from the most spectacular one we have ever seen, the location of it has to be one of the most spectacular and beautiful we have ever experienced! The ocean is one half of the view and the rugged island with birds and reptiles is the other half. The Kodak Moments are EVERYWHERE. We saw a Galapagos Hawk early on the way in--perched on a tower. We also saw the Booties all over the place. There were a few Frigate birds & Waved Albatross along the way and in the sky. The Marine Iguanas are scattered all over the place, but they seem to like the area close to where the boats arrive. Their colours are nothing short of incredible!
The Sea Lions were blocking our way to get off the boats and onto the path. We had to "shoo" them away and they were not happy with their nap being disturbed! They spend 50% of their lives on land, so you do have to get used to them.
This is a fun little stop that gives you a real sense of the topography of the Islands. It seems to have the most diversity of all the stops we made.

Stupendo.

The highlight is the waved albatross. Espanola is the only island where they mate and if you go in the mating season from May to December you will be treated to the sight of thousands of birds with quite a number of pairs doing a ritual courting dance. The detail of the dance is thought to support an albatross identify its partner bird (they mate for life) after spending time apart. There are an array of other birds worth seeing (nazca booby, blue footed booby and particularly the Galapagos Hawks which can be quite feisty.

This island is packed with wildlife. Marine iguanas were all over the rocks near the beach, we saw so many birds including the waved albatross, galapagos hawk and all three boobies. The walk was over uneven ground at times so good footwear is essential and bring insect repellent, We didnt and were eaten alive, a week before there were no biters so noone was prepared, it made stopping very unpleasant.

On arrival at the beach we were meet by a large herd of sea lions playing on the sand. They were oblivious to our presents and just continued around us. We went on a guided walking tour for approximately 2 hours. It’s mostly boulders so you find you are looking down continually. We passed many marine iguanas, Boobies and their babies. We stopped and rested on a cliff side and watched a blow hole which was interesting too. Great trip.

This was a great stop on our Galapagos cruise. We saw a multitude of wildlife from sea lions on the beach, albatrosses, large colonies of Nazca Boobies, hawks, marine iguanas and even some sea life during our snorkel session.

We stopped here on our trip through the Galapagos and really enjoyed our walk. We saw many, many marine iguanas, nascar boobies, other birds and lizards. The albatross had left by the date of our trip. Our walk took us out to the blowhole, which offered really nice views. I thought this was one of the high point stops on our trip.

Literally on landing we were confronted by a seal lion suckling her pup who took one look at us and went back to sleep. You could hear the pup suckling, awesome. Next up, the path almost blocked by a countless number of iguanas, you had to be careful where to step. Not one of them moved - it's their territory and they know it ! The path is very rocky and rough but pretty flat. Need good shoes. Further in, masses of albatross and multitude of birds, some with chicks but all of them completely ignoring the tourists. Could spend hours just sitting and watching them. One of THE experiences of the world.

Along with Genovesa, this is a must for any birder visiting Galápagos. Up close and personal with the Waved Albatross as well as other great sea birds. Also had good views of the endemic Mockingbird and other finches. The marine iguanas are also fantastic here and we’re very active in the water.
