This was our second pilgrimage to the sacred Tirumala temple. The serene atmosphere itself is a reason to visit. We flew into Chennai, spending a night before taking a private car to Tirupati. Our journey included stops at two other temples, extending the usual 3 - 4 hour drive to 7 hours. Thankfully, our driver was excellent and made the trip enjoyable.
The next day, we reached the Tirupathi gates by 11 am and headed straight to the NRI counter. The process was efficient- passports verified, forms filled, and tickets purchased (300 INR each, very worthwhile). The NRI queue, though organised, did exist. However, within 45 minutes to 1 hour, we were blessed with the darshan of Lord Venkateswara (Balaji, the beloved from of Vishnu). The temple's organisation was impressive. Despite the crowds, we didn't feel overly tired. And the moment you gaze upon Lord Vishnu, the world melts away. The darshan itself may be brief, but that fleeting glimpse is worth a lifetime.
There was just one snag: mobiles were not allowed inside. While a secure storage facility was provided, retrieving them after darshan presented a challenge. The scorching sun and hot ground made walking barefoot back to the storage area difficult. Similarly, collecting the prasad (laddu) involved another trek in the heat. Finally, reaching our driver ( who could not speak English) and coordinating with him the pickup spot, was a bit challenge. Despite these minor inconvenience, the trip was a success.
However, a suggestion for the temple management: painting a heat-resistant walking path and / or consolidating phone/prasad collection points closer to the entrance/ exit would greatly enhance the pilgrim experience.
Overall, a truly a spiritual journey to a magnificent temple.

Nice temple to visit with family .
We planned tirupati temple and we booked our tickets from travels who take us to tirupati ,from chennai .
So since 2 family with kids we planned ,they arranged a van and by morning 5.30 am van came,it was a 1 day trip .
Then we started our journey and after 2 hours they stopped in hotel and provided us breakfast idli ,Vada and dosa.
Then we moved and before taking up the hill journey one check point is there ,where we have to scan all our bags and in front small vinayakar temple is there.
Then uphill journey for 30 minutes ,slowly van will go.
Once reached ,since we prayed for tonsure for kids ,we went to the specific place ,offered to God and kids took bath and we move ahead for darshan.
Ours was 300 rs ticket.
Once we are inside ,they scan our vaadhar I'd also and we have to move along the line for darshan and if we are waiting in big hall they give annadanam (rice),then we have to move for darshan of perumal.
After coming out deposit changes in hundial then come out and call the driver by getting someone else mobile phone
Mobile phones are not allowed once we start our journey for darshan of Lord Balaji.
Then board the van and worship thayar down the hill and buy some glass bangles if interested .
After worshipping they provided dinner and we moved on to chennai and reached around 12.30 am in the mid night .
Only baby foods are allowed and water.
No cell phones .
Book tickets in advance for darshan.
Keep lightweight bags.
Keep other bags closed well in the vehicle we are travelling .no need to carry inside the temple premises
Get the driver number in a small paper to call back once darshan is over.
Also don't forget aadhar card which is important.
Do not forget to buy ladoos.
Also if going with kids some water and snacks or food packed is needed.

We visit Tirupathi every year with family and the travel to the seven hills is a great journey. We usually book Rs 300/- ticket darshan and before the year 2020 the line for Rs 300 darshan was a direct one to the hall where we have to show our Aadhar card and online tickets for checking in to the Temple.
Earlier the waiting time will be a maximum of two hours or two and half hours and we usually reach the Tirumala Temple main gate soon. It is only when we near the darshan of Venkateshwara Balaji that the crowd pushes and pulls you and you have to be very careful with your child and belongings to catch a few seconds glimpse of Lord Venkataramana Govinda!!
But now the darshan of Rs 300 has been postponed after 2 PM in the afternoon and the waiting time is now more than 4 hours.
Besides this waiting time and crowd, we are always harassed by the Temple staff and volunteers who shout at your ears to move fast and to get lost before you even fold your hands for darshan.
The Temple of Tirumala has become the private property of wealthy people and donors and businessmen of India and I can see that common devotees have no respect in the Temple.
I hope and pray that one day our Lord Balaji himself visits Tirumala Temple as an ordinary devotee and take the steps and see the darshan being arranged in the Temple.

India's Vatican city " once upon a time", the best and " as of now" tge worst administration inspite of god Balaji always remain holy blessful in his sanctum sanctorum.
We entered in temple line hy 3.30 pm for 4 pm special darshan slot. Came out at 9.50 PM on 21st Feb 2024.
Each and every phase pf pilgrim flow adminustratiin coordination lapses found.
Six times lines stopped due to VIP breaks. Now in current govt Ward member to minister, cinema actors to business men, funny thing is - referals from poloticians lije doctor referes usually to diagnistic labs etc all are VIP's but common man struggling here by spending hard earned money for reaching tempke, cticjets, cottage etc.
Here need to apreciate Chairman, EO great vision to give comfort to each and every devotee & field crew like police, volunteers, admin staff qorking very hard but all get invain due to vigilence lapses.
You wont get cup of milk for your kid but at all VQC comparments & external wall peripheral quo libes one can get substandard 100 ml chinese flavour beverage at INR 30 to 50 & 50 gms lousy oil roast made mixture at INR 20.
Unauthorised vendors/ hawkers present everywhere at highly restricted areas is really possible without vigilence backdoir support?
Moreover, no contro on shops. At restaurent one breakdast dish mentioned as 30 INR but they are collecting 60 INR. No bill & they will collect money, will give small hand written slip to collect food from counter.
Toys rates as per discretion of vendors even ckearly printed INR 400 toys being sold at INR 700.
Concluding neverending vigilence flopshow with big salutes to washroom men/ women staff fir 24x7 keeping full hygiene just like star hotel toilets. Really hats off and trillion kudos!

Visited exactly a day after 10 day Ekadashi festival. Thousands of devotees but very well organised. Plenty of children.
Waited for 4 hours which did not feel very long.
Purchasing laddu was quite chaotic but overall a great experience.
Definitely recommended to all hindus.

Absolutely pathetic management. Me and my family came all the way from Mumbai. We thought we could stand in line for however long for darshan but the free and slotted darshan entry were arbitrarily prohibited for a week! None of this info is on the TTD website. Our driver from Bangalore and our travel agent also did not know any of this. No major officer was available to meet. The Chairman and JEO had simply left post lunch.

In the prasad queue, we met other people from Delhi, Orissa... who also did not get darshan due to the same reason. Only people who seem to get the darshan were locals. A brilliant display of the poor management was the laddu lines, where for some reason the counters are separated according to bank names but they take cash 😂. The counters give laddus without a bag or container and then there is another completely separate line to buy the bags for the laddus- I can't imagine how dense you have to be to come up with this

The management has absolutely zero respect for people's time and energy. In all my visits to temples else where in India, I have not experienced anything like this. Lord Venkateswara would be so angry at this utter mismanagement of his abode. If you are not from AP, please don't rely on "on the spot entry"

It’s an interesting experience, I would like to narrate so people as I can benefit with some assessments on what to expect. I chose to climb up the steps as desired by my cousin, who was along with her husband. We picked Srivari Mettu point to climb up ( it’s 700 metre above sea level. Has 2400 steps and is 1.2 km long. ( the other option is Aliperi at 150 metre above sea level and is 3500 steps and 11 km.)

I could complete climbing under an hour. We started at 8 and done by 9ish. Since we couldn’t get any bookings ( Rs 300 ticket), only option is to get the free ticket for pilgrims taking the steps ( but here the Darshan time slot is at the mercy of the clerk issuing tickets; or maybe it’s algorithm driver as ChatGPT advised), we got a slot of 9 PM, at the reporting gate at Tirumala, that’s 13 hours from issuing ticket. 😳: again it’s a free darshan ticket and we were t offered options.

So with my family also reaching by around 9.30, we had so much time. We had a good breakfast as our car arrived as well, booked a hotel in foothills as there is no accommodation available or listed in TA or other portals. Drove downhills. rested, went to Thiruchanoor to pay obeisance to Alamelangai Thayar, took 30 min in the queue to make darshan and started drive uphill, following the ticket saying Divyadarshanam point. We arrived and had the car parked( noting the spot as we will have to leave phones behind - in the hindsight it’s ok to carry a phone and this gets collected and is delivered after Darshan, though I didn’t experience this in Tirumala. I understood it’s a similar process I followed at Thiruchanoor temple downstairs)

Important to note is that there is no special gate for Divyadarshanam, the gate for Sarvadarshanam is common with Divyadarshanam, we wasted some 10 min in this melee as boards directed specifically for Divyadarshanam upto the point., the board also shows Sarvadharshanam as well. We were let inside the entry point at about 7 PM( remember our reporting time is 9PM, but we were let inside) and we must have traversed about a km or more through labyrinthine pathways until we reached enclosures 9 to 16 by 7.20 PM

Each enclosure can hold about 200 people, this is we’re waiting began. We were put in enclosure 16. There were about a dozen people and it kept filling and last set of people arrived at about 9 pm. No phones and no I for stop at all, waiting is onerous and sometimes at about 9 PM there was free food provided and about 70% people rushed and had food and rested while others waited, there was no dearth of food but people still rushed and thronged. The gates opens finally at 10.15, we jostled through darshan am at 11 and finally we’re out. The wait is though the 35 second darshan am at sanctum Santorum. It’s all worth it.

The buying laddus was another 30 min affair. We get one free laddu ( we also get a small prasadam laddu inside temple. We can buy upto 2 laddus per person as a mere mortal. Ofcourse there are other special support to people I am sure as I saw people join us just 30 min before final dharshan too.

We left for a good dinner and started driving realized we cannot drive from 12 midnight to 3 AM downhill. We waited kn the car and finally reached downhills by 4 AM.. later half of my typing was in blind as TA doesn’t allow to see what I am typing. Apologies. My assesment id thag it takes between 2-1/2 hours to 6 hours to get darshan depending on your time of arrival into enclosure. Tjis will help you to plan for what’s up there. I felt there are better way to do waiting management.
