What sets Aihole apart is its status as an experimental ground for architects and sculptors during its historical zenith. The temples here exhibit a fascinating blend of Dravidian and Nagara styles, providing a glimpse into the evolution of Indian temple architecture.

This is one of the UNSCO historic monument close to Badami karnataka . If you are visiting badami, pattadakkal and aihole are must visit . One thing I noticed though - after visiting pattadakkal, aihole looked very normal. I didn’t feel truly extravagant.. I’m any case , for 25 Rs entry fee, it’s totally worth .

We went on a veryyyyyyyyyyy hot day .. really hot and humid . We were sweating like crazy . Parents were unable to walk through. They took rest Sitting outside . The stone monuments looked similar to pattadakkal. I’m not sure of the history behind, but there were guides who could help you understand the history. The main monument is really amazing . There were wild flowers when we went and it was soooo colorful. Loved if . There will be so many people selling food etc outside . If u r really hungry try it , if not better to avoid it . Lots of small shops around for cool drinks etc . Overall a good visit 👍👍👍

The Chalukyan capital between 4th and 6th century, Aihole is dotted with many temples inside the complex. There is a ticket of INR 25/- + INR 5/- for the museum. The famous Durga temple is actually dedicated to the Sun god. One can engage a local guides here for INR 200-300/- to get more details of each structure. The ASI maintained museum has some wonderful collections of statues and rare collections -- unfortunately couldn't click a picture as photography is banned. It can be hot during the day so better would be cover this place during 1st half of the day. There is a North Karnataka delicacies shop (Vijaya Karadant) just opp this complex. You can buy some healthy delicacies here.

On first glance, Aihole looks like a sleepy, boring village. But do not let that fool you. If you are interested in art and architecture, then Aihole is a must visit. I personally found Aihole more interesting and awe-inspiring than Pattadakal; that too after I had thought that nothing could top what I had just witnessed at Pattadakal. Many folks cover Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal in a single day. I too was aiming for this initially. But I did not have much energy left after covering Pattadakal and Aihole and had to leave Badami for another day.

Key attractions in Aihole are
1. Durg temple complex - The name is deceptive. It is infact "Durg" ie, fort because of its structure and shape. Not "Durga". It is indeed astonishing, how our ancestors built a curved structure with stone in those days. Amazing engineering skills!
2. Ravanaphadi Cave - Intricate sculptures/carvings of dancing Shiva, MahishasuraMardhini, Varaha avatar and more
3. Hucchappayamatha - A hidden gem. We would probably have missed this were it not for our guide. Awe-inspiring ceiling work - three panels depicting the Holy Trinity, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva

Do note :
1. Aihole has even fewer touristy amenities like restaurants etc as compared to Pattadakal. So, bring your own food/snacks if you are prone to hunger pangs while sightseeing.
2. Definitely take a guide to better appreciate the history and also get to know little known facts
3. It helps to come a bit prepared. I highly recommend reading "Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal" by George Michell published by Jaico.

The Chalukyan regional capital between 4th and 6th century, Aihole (ay-ho-leh) is sprinkled with 100s of temples from simple shrines to complex architecture with pillars having lathe like precision. The famous Durga temple, the poster boy of Aihole is actually a temple dedicated to the Sun God. As soon you enter the town, it looks half of the dwellings have a wall or two from 4th Century:). ASI also maintains a museum and some of the statues are so neatly carved that its hard to believe (photos are not allowed) for eg. the Naag Couple. It sure is a unique experience to hop from one temple to another. Its better to visit during cooler weather or early mornings as the heat can be a spoiler. Not very decent refreshment facilities outside so best to carry your own food.

this is a small village in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka state, encompassing several monuments dating 6 - 8 century AD. One of the main monument is the Durga Devi temple, which is an elliptical structure and a semi finished dome having magnificient sculptural beauty. However the roads leading to this village are in a
semi finished condition and more improvements are going further in this direction. This is an ASI protected monument and hence the timings are 6 Am to 6 PM

This is a beautiful historical place to visit.. The main attraction here is the structure that resemblance to our parliament house.. The magnificent structure is a sight to behold.. The story goes that the Kings practices various designs for building temples in Pataddkal and build the final ones in Aihole.. The reason why we see so many temples built is because they are all prototypes as they did not have blue prints like today!!

The temple complexes at Aihole are wonderful and an absolute must-visit if you're visiting the Badami circuit. There are a number of temple complexes around the main Durga complex and museum and most tourists miss them. Only the Durga temple complex needs a ticket for entry, the rest are free to enter.

Some of the complexes are closed though and the overall area is quite filthy, mainly due to encroachments all around the temple complexes. There are roadside dhabas and hawkers but if you're concerned about hygiene, then carry your own food and drink. Monkeys are not as much of a problem here as in Pattadakal and Badami.

As per local people all learning of various stone crafting happen here. This is place called Durga Complex.
Entire village had more than 100+ temples as many of them learning how to build slab, how to put 2 floor temple.
How to reach on roof. How to make curve and do stone craft for various God and Goddess.
Unfortunately very less written about this place. But close to Badami, one should not miss while travelling from Hampi to Badami or Vijayapura

In attach photo you will see how interlocking work, how they make staircase and how they make Top of temple.
Look details of 2 photo where stone sculpture and details it amazing
