Brilliant shortcut between Fort Cochin and Ernakulam, avoids the traffic on the much longer bridge route to the south. Also very cheap at just 6 rupees. Good Modern ferries with comfortable seats and great views from enormous windows all round, and mid morning was well used but not unpleasantly busy. On Fort Cochin side a Tuk Tuk will take you to all main sites in about 10mns for 100 rupees (politely decline the 200 rupees sight-seeing offer which will take you to souvenir shops that give your driver commission).

The ferry from Ernakulam leaves just north of Subash park. It arrives in Fort Kochi 20 minutes later at the Kalvathy jetty which is a short walk from the historic part of the city. I found the old fashionable boat comfortable enough. With windows on both sides you can enjoy the view across the estuary. There usually is a breeze, so you will not get too hot.
At some point the boats will have to be replaced. Especially the thick exhaust fumes of the engines are a concern.
First boat from Ernakulam is at 6AM, the last one at 21:10 (9:10PM).
One way tickets cost 6 rupees and have to be bought prior to boarding at a counter.
A journey takes 20 minutes and includes a short stop at Willingdon island.
For me the experience was quite average as I am from the Netherlands, a country with lots of (modern) ferries.

A different and a totally new experience altogether. Happened to visit and enjoy the ride from ernakulam to fort kochi and back which was definitely worth the time spent. A very amusing aspect was the local commuters alighting and boarding from the stops on the way. With a one way ticket costing only Rs. 6, it also offers the locals a reasonable and time saving mode to travel in the city. However, it is equally interesting and unique an attraction for visitors and thoroughly enjoyable as a joy ride too at a very economical price.

Nice place , we just went to visit some local palace with friesnds, and we enjoyed a lot , everything was unic for us as we belongs to north india, where rarely we have to see this kind of things. Overall it was good experience

Fort Cochin is a unique “ little European town “ with in Cochin/ Ernakulam in Kerala. The ferry which takes you across with your car was exciting especially for our grandkids and a way to avoid the traffic and enjoy the cool breeze and the natural beauty
The small clean roads in Fort Cochin with the cute shops and a variety of food places is unlike any other town or city in Kerala , India . Lots of art galleries, antique shops dot the area and every one was helpful and friendly . Worth a visit any day .

with my son and family had a trip from Ernakulam to fort cochin with this ferry. love to sail on this backwater before we reach the ancient city of Cochin.

A small island with narrow lanes which covers history of European settlers and shaping of Cochin as an gateway for spice trade .
The churches/old chinese fishing nets and old jew town covering antiques, vintage collectables, along with Keralan crafts and spices are main attractions .
The best way to reach here is by taking an ferry ride from marine drive jetty which charge Rs.6 for on way ,15 mins ride. Take a local tuk tuk /rickshaw for covering attractions which can be done in 1/2 hrs but beware of these drivers who insist tourist in shopping at places that overcharges and the drivers make a cut off it,
Overall an and oid laid back place with outdoor cafes ,eateries,with heritage buildings.

Only four rupees for one adultand it will take 20 minutes to reach.while reached via road is expensive and one hour journey.

Need to improve on cleanliness in ferries. I enjoy it however. Would recommend you to try it if in kochi.
