The Aurangabad caves are the most difficult caves among the caves at Ajanta and Ellora. You have to climb a stiff staircase to first reach the ticket counter. Though there is a road also leading to the same place, we were unable to find the starting point of the road. There are two separate sites. So keep your ticket with you till the end. Carry enough water with you. There is also a cooler near the ticket counter. The ticket price is Rs. 25 per person. As the two sites are 1 km apart, we visited only one side. The caves are above the ticket counter, and you need stamina to climb the hill to see all of them. It is on the outskirts of the city, and not many visitors are found here.

The overall experience of Aurangabad was really good. Covered Ellora caves, Ajanta caves, Grishneswar temple, Mini taj, Daulatabad fort and local delicacies.
Capital travels made my trip memorable.
Please contact Mohsin and Mirza taqui if you plan to go Aurangabad.
They will provide a lot of information and are the best guides.

Elora is 30 KM from Aurangabad city centre . We hired a taxi .It took around 45 minutes . On the way there is Daulatabad Fort . Outside the cave there are hotels and restaurants. Since it was in the month of August ,the month independence no entry fee was required . The cave Ilora is located in the Charondri Hill range running North South facing east .From entrance it is five minutes walk . There are 34 caves .Numbers started from South . From 01-05 was built between 400-600 AD from 6-8 during 600-800 AD bu Buddist .From 13-29 was built by Hindus between 700-900 AD . from 30-34 built by Joinas in 900-1100 AD.Amoung all caves number 10 of Bouddhas and and cave number 16 of Hindus . In the cave number 16 world"s best monolithoic rock cut Temple Koilas is located .It was bulit by Raja Krishna _1 in 760 . It took another 150 years to complete .A whole rock was cut to make atemple . A total 30 lacs of stone was cut with hammer and chisel . It is two storied temple .The architechtural design and art work is marvellous. To cover whole all caves it would take 7-8 hours .
It is a remarkable work done as good as 1500 years back. Some one remarked it is the single best architechtural signature of Indian Architechture .

We had a private guide for the caves which was very helpful because they are amazing but not really labeled with any information at the site. We visited these first and Ellora the next day. I liked this order and definitely recommend both as they are quite different. The quality of art- painting and architecture is unbelievable. These are thousands of years old! I think the art that you are right up next to is more impressive than Pompeii (and I loved Pompeii )

Even in December, we were some of the only visitors to these caves. They are beautiful - though not as grand as Ellora or Ajanta, - but we enjoyed the quiet. There are 2 separate sites here, but you pay once for both of them.

These beautiful rock-cut Buddhist temple caves are located just a few kilometres from Aurangabad City. One needs to climb up the hill to visit the caves.

観光本でもそこまで取り上げられていない穴場的な場所。オーランガバード周辺で時間が余ればどうぞ、くらいのスポットだが、洞窟の上から市内の風景が見渡せるのはよいと思う。

I am 73 years old. I walk for 50 minutes every day. How difficult it is to climb 350 odd steps. Is there any other mode of going up besides walking

If you can walk 50 minutes a day and have no knee pains, you should be able to do it. The steps at Aurangabad caves are steep, it will not be a cakewalk but very doable. If you own a hiking stick, do take it along. Gives good support especially for the journey down. Climb at your own pace taking breaks frequently.
Hi - we would like to visit Ajanta and Ellora caves in Feb 2018 . Will we need to walk a lot or climb steep stairs to access the caves ? Iam 58 and suffer from anaemia and breathlessness. My husband is 65 and has a minor heart condition.

I think you can make this trip. For me the main problem was not the stairs and not the long trip.
The main problem was the temperature. I was in the end of March, it was really hot !!! It was 40C !!! Surrounded by stone, it seemed +48C. Some caves you have to enter bare foot.
You can take a rest in the caves. It is cool and very quite inside.
Take water. Take your time. Don't rush, and you will enjoy it ))
I had a really good time )))

My husband and I visited Ellora and Ajanta caves in October 2017. The Ellora Caves are an hour and Ajanta are two hours away from Aurangabad by car. We had arranged car and guides before we left Australia with an excellent Tour company in Mumbai. Highly recommend you (google) contact Abbas at India Someday, the company is very well run and Abbas will go out of his way to deliver for you. Prices are very good and wont break the budget! Enjoy, you are in for a fabulous time.

please allocate a full day for Ajanta.
Accommodation in Ajanta is best at MTDC Fardapur (if you have your own vehicle) - Fardapur has a canteen of its own , Another MTDC which is nearer to the caves parking slot is Ajanta T junction , but lack of canteen facility might be a problem , however eating nearby wont be much of an issue. So for convenience choose T-junction.Bookings can be made thru MTDC online booking. Make sure that you consider Monday close for Ajanta.
Ellora specially the Kailash temple (Kailashe Kelenkari) will charm you the most .Ellora is closed on Tuesdays(plz check it out). Other main sites Daulatabad fort , (trekking involved about 1000 steps)will rinse you out , we avoided(best photography post lunch) . plz attempt a silhouette session at the Biwi ka Maqbara and return to Hotel.
Best plan, from Kolkata choose Sai Express (weekly) to shirdi directly. Rest the night I would advice MTDC again , otherwise Hotel Saiesh , 100 mts within Sai baba's mandir. plz choose an early slot for darshan , you may register and book at online sai org in , do not attempt accommodation there , deposit your camera and mobiles at counters outside the mandir. On a normal day , darshan might take 3-4 hrs complete , including shopping. Move out by evening to Aurangabad . It is nothing wrong if you reach the T-junction Ajinta , by 8.00 pm. Rest for the night.
Next day attempt ajanta , rest the night at ajanta, Next day morning get off to Ellora - Ghirineshwar mandir- daulatabad - Miwi ka Maqbara - Aurangabad Hotel (Panchavati a cheap option).
Next day take Shivneri (Volvo AC) to Mumbai , else plan your train journey accordingly...
Happy Journey.....
If you are adventuring and like the monsoons then do not forget to visit between 15th August & Vishwakarma Puja...Greenery in Maharashtra with loads of "jharnas" is worth enjoying and you will experience a different canvas altogether.
