This 12th century Hindu temple is dedicated to Shiva, the destroyer of the Hindu trinity. Having seen many temples of Kalinga Architecture, the temple looks like an early proto-Kalinga style. The building is less grand. It preserves the tower and hall of KalingaArchitecture, but without the Khakhara Deula foresection.

A set of steps lead up to the entrance with a projecting porch flanked by round thick columns decorated with entwined Nagas sheltering a feminine figure in the fashion of Mucalinda sheltering the Buddha. Several other notable sculptures of lion-like figures in repose adorn the roof. What’s even more interesting is the number of sculptures of Hindu deities not specifically of Shiva, including Varuna and Ganesh iconography.

There is an entrance fee to visit and foreigners have to pay 10x more than the locals. The temple is beautiful, but not not worth the entrance fee to see just one temple.

Popularly known as Prem-Mandir ( Love Temple) , a master piece of rich architecture and history believed to be completed in 11th century at bhubaneswar is one of the places where you can spend some time to relax. No worship there due to destroyed/ breakage of statues.

I remember a lot about this Temple despite having been in this area for a month and thousands of photos, it is the only one that does not have any monks inside, therefore it is very clean. It is very beautiful with beautiful reliefs,,

11th century Somavamsi temple shows further evolution of Odisha temple architecture with clustered miniature shikaras on the rekha deula and pyramidal jagmohan in front. Carvings on jagmohan entrance are lifelike nagas. Lintel has a depiction of the navagrahas. Inside its quite plain. Sculpture on the outside is evolving to the quality achieved at Konark.

Set in a large, landscaped garden and protected by an armed guard at the entrance.

The Rajarani temple is located inside a park. The Park is well maintained but the insides of the temple are not. We could hear bats on a window inside the temple. The ticket counter takes only cards and each transaction takes a lot of time. Hence better to purchase an entrance ticket from the ASI website whose QR scanner is available outside the ticket counter. Wish the insides of the temple were maintained better. It is still a very nice place and would recommend a visit to see the architecture up close.
