The War Museum is newish and is much nicer compared to the Longewala Memorial. We went in the evening and did the museum plus the audio visual tour. The Audio Visual is a must, no point in doing just the museum. Then since it was 6pm we decided to do the Sound and Light Show. Luckily we got 2 tickets (No tickets for kids under 12). The Sound and Light show is about the 71 war at the Longewala post which is also depicted in the movie Border. It is a must do especially if you have kids.

Highly recommended to visit.
Jaisalmer war museum is located just before the Jaisalmer city. The meuseum is about Indian Army and Longewala war. They have a display of War tanks, trucks and Pakistani tanks captured by Indian army in 1965 war.
It has a entry ticket for adults and free for children's upto 12 years. Those who are not able to visit the Longewala border museum can visit this place.
There is also a souvenir shop which has wine glasses, clocks, mugd, hoodies etc.
Feels patriotic and proud of the Indian Army.

On the way to Jaisalmer, built and maintained by Military station Jaisalmer, this war memorial is a good opportunity to get familiar with Indian Army and its contribution towards safety of our country.

We found it is a nice place to visit. Especially kids know the importance of Indian army well. There are real tanks and other war related displays placed. Additionally, they show short movie related to what Indian army does. So, good to visit.
Overall it takes approx. one hour to visit. One small thing to keep in mind that there is a lunch break between 1:30 to 2:30. So, don’t go during this time period. It is situated approx. 11 km from the main city. So auto rickshaw person usually charges Rs. 500 to 600 for to and fro journey. Charges to see entire museum is Rs. 55 per person. I advise travelers to take guide (charge is Rs. 100 only), so that we can have a better idea about the importance of each area.

The Jaisalmer War Museum was an essential stop for us on way to our stay in Jaisalmer. From Bikaner, this spot is on the way right outside the main city. Something noteworthy is that the highways and main roads are simply amazing and it is a pleasure to drive if one is a road trip enthusiast! The War Museum is located on the outskirts of the city and is a secure army zone. The museum houses important details about India's wars, mainly about the Longewala Battle. There are recreated models of captured war vehicles, arms, and ammunition. We were lucky to be there at a time when the museum closed but the sound and light show began. The show is a reverberating reminder to all Indians about the fierce battle fought by our warriors at Longewala and it is a must for every Indian. This experience, in a way set the tone for our onward journey as we stepped into the difficult terrains of Rajasthan.

We visited the place during our Jaisalmer trip. it was really great to see the sacrifices made by our Army for our security and safety.
All the old army things were kept with captured weapons and equipment of the enemy. Very well maintained area and lawns.
The Bunker cafe restaurant in the parking area was also very good.

Must see in Jaisalmer, although the museum is only small it is very interesting and all the staff members (Indian Army) were very friendly wanting to help where possible. For the price of 55 rupees for a foreigner it’s a brilliant trip out, also the gift shop was very fairly priced if you wanted to buy anything and the facilities were some of the best I have seen in India very clean!

A must visit for anyone near Jaisalmer. Very cheap entry price (even as a foreigner) of R55 for entry and the audio and light show. Some fascinating bits of history of the border wars and all round informative place for anyone interested in modern Indian history. Probably top of our visit to Jaisalmer!

It's a must visit place for all Indians and those who want to understand the 1971 war. Hunter aircraft, artillery, captured tanks are on display. It's a long walk for kids and elderly who have difficulty walking (best to carry your stroller for child, walker for elderly).
Highlights
- Laungewala hall
- Sound and Light show at 6.30 pm daily
It's tough to hold back tears at the end of the show.

5. Have lunch and Leave for Desert Safari at 1400
6. Night in the desert
7. Next day arrive back in the morning at 1100. Get ready, have lunch and out for rest of the sightseeing by1300
8. Take auto and go to the war museum and back by 1530. (2.5 hrs sufficient for the to and fro journey and the museum visit?????)
9. visit patwon ki haveli and salim singh haveli by 1730.
10. Go to Gadisar lake at sunset time (i think this is not a sunset point, but read the reviews that this is good place to visit in the evenings)
11. Go to desert cultural museum and attend the puppet show at 1900.
12. Walk in the markets and End the day with dinner at 2200.
13. Take the train for Bikaner at 2300.
a. Is it worth going to the Desert national park if i am already spending 1 night in desert safari?
b. Read from reviews here that salim singh haveli and nathmalji ki haveli are average places and can be skipped. Is it correct?
c. Can Bada baug be accommodated anywhere in the itinerary or it is worth a skip?
Since, i dont have family and ladies along with me in this trip, i believe i wont waste time in the movement, local transport, eating joints and getting ready.
Please advice

Sounds like an excellent plan. I haven't been to patwon ki haveli and salim singh haveli so can't comment about that but the Jaisalmer fort, war museum and desert safari are all worth visiting.
Morning at what time it opens.
