The cenotaphs built in the memory of members of Royal family are simply breathtaking… There are about 250 cenotaphs built about 350 years ago. There are Chatteris constructed in memory of the Mewar kings who were cremated here, however they need to be better maintained and preserved

Located near Ahar museum, the two visits can be combined. The museum houses several artefacts discovered in the Ahar region of Rajasthan

Interesantes y bonitos cenotafios que extrañamente son muy poco visitados. Entrada gratuita. Visita puede ser rápida porque el recinto es pequeño. Alguno de los edificios son realmente bonitos

Completely off the beaten track and was taken there on the back of a motorbike by my guide. Was strange and eerie as the place is very overgrown and the grounds not maintained. Apparently the private property of the Maharana (the guy that owns all the hotels) and I was told he will probably fix it up when he gets back from London. There was guard which I flicked 100 rupees. The place is very old, 15th century and historical burial place. Most interesting thing is it is where previous kings wives were sacrificed if the King was killed to prevent them getting raped by enemies. The area is huge and the structures themselves are great examples of Hindu and apparently some moslem architecture and marble carvings. I really don’t think many tourists go there. I was only one on my visit. But it really is worth it. It’s kind of good that such a place off the normal tourist beat exists.

This is a very special place, with well preserved cenotaphs, although the landscaping is somewhat trashy (but what isn't?) not too far out from the center of Udaipur. Take a tuk-tuk early in the morning for the best light. The Tony Robbins Foundation has donated to help preserve these remarkable cenotaphs. A "security guard" may hassle you if you shoot photos, so get there early and be quick. If you have enough rupees, he can be bribed. Good luck!

Interesting for travellers, but not necessarily a hot tourist destination. The Maharanas of Mewar aren't buried there. They are 250 Hindu monuments. The Rulers were cremated there and the ashes were buried or scattered elsewhere. OK to walk around the bases, but if you decide to go up the stairs into the domes, you should remove your shoes, out of respect. There is a sign near the entrance asking you to do so. There is also a request that you don't take photos, but I don't see that is ever done. The site is nothing for non-Hindu tourists, but for a place for photography. There are recent burnt grass patches on the grounds, but I am assured they were for burning rubbish, not bodies. The cenotaphs are under repair, but it looks like it is very slow going. The stairs on the cenotaphs are steep and there are no railings. I saw someone slip and fall when I was there. She was OK but had some scrapes and bruises. A few locals wander around to check on visitors or pray, but it is mainly empty. Flocks of crows live around the site and the area is not inviting. It is worth a visit, if you are looking for something to do in Udaipur.

Ahar cenotaphs, only famous in bollywood is situated in Ahar village of Udaipur. This place has more than 250 cenotaphs of the all the Maharajas of Udaipur that were built over approximately 400 years ago. This place is one of the best archeological sites in Udaipur.

Went to the Cenotaphs with a driver from our hotel, who was able to show us around. V interesting to hear of the history of the Mewar Maharanas. This is where they have been cremated for hundreds of years, then a memorial built over the cremation site. Recommend that you busy the Cenotaphs after visiting city palace, as it helps you work out how the history ties in together.

This was a surprise. Not on the beaten track for tourists but we'll worth the 5km tuktuk ride. The cenotaphs trace the lineage of the Mewar Maharana's from about 1500. Each king was cremated here and a cenotaph built in his honour. This should be visited after the palace tour which will provide some background.
